visit their old University of Notre Dame lecturer. Conversation soon turned

into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the lecturer went to the kitchen and returned

with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups – porcelain, plastic,

glass, some plain-looking and some expensive and exquisite, telling them to

help themselves to hot coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the lecturer said: "If

you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive c ups were taken up, leaving

behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want

only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and

stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you

cons ciously went for the better cups and are eyeing each other's cups."

the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of

Life doesn't change."

I would drink a cup of dirt coffee if it came with a Lambo.

But who wants one of those crappy paper cups with the fold out handles?

Coffee tastes better in a porcelain cup than a plastic one.

And how did the professor happen to have all those various cups handy? Just in case his ex-students were all unhappy with their lives and decided to discuss it with him?

With life represented as the coffee, and the quality of life never changing, why would it not be right to try life in a different cup? The problem is not in enjoying what is in the cup you chose, it is in doubting you chose the right cup to hold your coffee, as is observed by everyone checking out the other people's choice of cups rather than blatantly appreciating their own choice to hold their never changing coffee.
