Hey Zeus, sorry but I plum ran out of PMs for the day so I'll use a rare journal entry and point you to a gallery that's been occupying a lion's share of my time for the last month or so:

http://users.adelphia.net/~paleolithic/myanmar/index.html

You'll need the Flash plugin to view the slide show. Also, it might help to reduce the viewing font size of your browser.

I'll probably write in depth about my trip later on. Or not. ;)

jo... wow.

if a picture's worth a thousand words you already wrote a book.

i must go there and take my own crappy pictures so i can then look back at yours and wonder how you did it, what your magic is.

Hi, thanks everyone for your encouraging comments. I hope everyone had at least one image in the gallery that evoked an emotional response.

Jeff, I shot 310 frames of Shwedagon Paya's east gate on Fuji Velvia 35mm using a Nikon F3. From that, I pared it down to 40 slides, then had 9 scanned digitally. Of the 9 scans, I chose 3 for the gallery. i.e. 1% hit rate.

The rest of the images were taken with a Nikon D70, my first digital SLR. I brought home a little over 1500 images but I probably shot closer to 2000 since I deleted many in-camera during my daily shoots. Actually I expected to take 4000 but because the tsunami changed my plans to shoot Koh Phi Phi, I had an unexpected 4 days in BKK while awaiting a flight to Laos. For some reason during those 4 days I put my photo gear away. Maybe I was distracted by how much BKK had changed since the last time I was there!

Hi Poul, I had a 24mm MF f2.8, one of my favorite lenses but I didn't use it too much as I used primarily the kit lens that came with the D70 (18 - 85mm zoom). For scenics on my F3, the 24/2.8 is unbeatable. All the portraits however were taken with a 105mm MF f2.5, a truly sweet lens that, yes, yields a superb bokeh. The next time however I'll stop down a bit more to get greater depth of field. And use my tripod more. ;)

Well you learn all the time, don't you? :-) Currently, I own a Minolta Dimage A1 - nice camera, but I miss the control of DOF like I had on my old SLR...I have my eyes on the new KM D7D, just difficult to get that wallet out of the pocket :-)

Great pictures, music, I loved them ....... I(ve been some years ago there in Myanmar and also visited (u can't miss it) the Shwedagon Pagoda (Golden Pagoda) ..... remind me a nice time there. Did u only visited Yangoon or did u also go to Pagan or Madalay?

I hope u did only take pictures, but also enjoyed the atmosphere

Hi thaibel, thanks for your comments. Yes, I visited Bagan (Nyaung U) and Mandalay also. But I failed miserably to get the image I wanted in Bagan partly because I only had 2 nights there and also because I didn't have the necessary optics (a long telephoto). But I discovered (as elsewhere) that the real attraction of Bagan were the people. :)
