When people insist on predicating their entire arguments on something they insist is an absolute--that the blockade is illegal--but which is in fact NOT an absolute, it's clear that constructive debate is not possible.

And when the same people prate about "humanitarian" empathy with the people of Gaza, yet exhibit none of the same sentiment towards the people of Israel, it's obvious that some factor has eclipsed their logic.

We all have our prejudices, some of it originating from experience, perhaps some from irrational emotions. In case mine hasn't been made crystal clear thus far, I despise those who wish to deny Israel its territorial integrity.

Perhaps some of those who seem unduly concerned with the legal and humanitarian aspects of the blockade pertinent to one side of the conflict should ask themselves whether their "concern" and "outrage" are nothing more than a hideous--but rather diaphanous--cloak for their anti-Israeli, perhaps anti-Jewish, bigotry.

The volume of sanctimonious hypocrisy in this thread makes me feel almost ashamed to be a member of TF.

Israel navy kills four Palestinian 'militants' off Gaza

Israel's navy has shot and killed four Palestinians wearing diving gear off the Gaza coast, officials say.

The Israeli military says it believes those on board were planning a "terrorist attack".

Hamas officials in Gaza say four bodies have been recovered and two people are missing.

It comes a week after nine pro-Palestinian activists died in an Israeli raid on an aid flotilla trying to break Israel's blockade of Gaza.

Israel controls and occupies the sea off the coast of Gaza despite having withdrawn its forces from the territory in 2005.

The Israeli military said the boat was carrying "a squad of terrorists wearing diving suits on their way to execute a terror attack".

A spokesman said a naval force had hit its target, but did not give any more details of the operation.

The country's Haaretz newspaper quoted an Israeli army source as saying the incident took place at about 0430 local time (0130 GMT) and that the boat had been heading north to Israel from waters off the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

Israeli media is reporting that helicopters were involved in the operation.

Israel's Ynet News said the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, Fatah's military wing, had reported that four of its men were killed and a fifth was missing.

The men had been training off the Gaza coast, Ynet quoted an al-Aqsa spokesman as saying.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said there were no Israeli casualties.

Regional summit

The BBC's Jon Donnison, in the West Bank town of Ramallah, says it is not yet clear exactly what has happened.

But it is not uncommon for the Israeli navy to open fire on fishing boats it feels are too far out at sea, he adds.

There has also been sporadic rocket fire out of Gaza into Israel since that raid a week ago.

The incident comes as the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is in Turkey for a regional security summit in the wake of last week's Israeli attack on a Gaza aid flotilla.

Mr Abbas, who heads the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, is expected to pay his respects to the nine dead activists.

His government is the bitter rival of Hamas, which took control of Gaza from Mr Abbas's Fatah movement in 2007.

If Iran sends a ship it will get real interesting. Would be even more interesting if all of the Arab states around them started to send boats too. For that matter, why aren't more countries who are against Israel in this situation sending aid?

The Iranian Red Crescent has decided to send two aid ships to Gaza this week in the latest bid to break the blockade imposed on the Palestinian territory by Iran's regional archfoe Israel.

Iranian Red Crescent aid workers load medical aid destined for the Gaza Strip. The Iranian Red Crescent has decided to send two aid ships to the Palestinian territory this week and has called for volunteers to act as relief workers and accompany the vessels, the state IRNA news agency reported.

Red Crescent director for international affairs Abdolrauf Adibzadeh told the state IRNA news agency late on Sunday that the decision to send the ships was taken after a meeting with the foreign ministry.

"One ship will carry donations made by the people and the other will carry relief workers. The ships will be sent to Gaza by end of this week," Adibzadeh said.

He said the Red Crescent has called for Iranian volunteers to act as relief workers and accompany the vessels.

"Volunteers who want to go to Gaza and help the oppressed people of occupied Palestine can refer to the Red Crescent website and register," Adibzadeh said.

He said the initial plan was to send the ships through an intermediary country, but "based on a decision by the society, they will be sent directly." He added that the aid would consist of foodstuffs and medicines.

The Iranian Red Crescent had previously sent an aid ship carrying food and medicines to Gaza in December 2008 but it was prevented from reaching the territory by the Israeli navy.

The decision to send the two ships comes hot on the heels of a report that Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards had expressed readiness to escort aid flotillas to Gaza.

"If the respected leader of the revolution (supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei) gives an order in this regard, the Revolutionary Guards' naval forces will take a practical step using their capability and equipment to escort flotillas to Gaza," Khamenei's aide in the Guards' naval wing, Ali Shirazi, told the Mehr news agency on Sunday.

It was unclear, however, how the Guards would escort the flotillas as their naval wing is largely made up of speed boats and light vessels.

Last week's Israeli commando raid on an aid flotilla headed for Gaza, in which nine pro-Palestinian activitists died, has sparked outrage across the political spectrum in Iran.

Blaming the United States, Britain and France for the deadly raid, Khamenei called for the prosecution of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Ehud Barak.

In a message issued on Tuesday, Iran's supreme leader called on the international community to end the Israeli blocakde.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad too lashed out at Israel, demanding that it face "political sanctions" for the raid.

The animosity between Iran and its regional archfoe has only worsened under Ahmadinejad, with top Guards commanders repeatedly boasting that the elite force has missiles capable of reaching any target in Israel.

In turn, Israel, which has the Middle East's sole if undeclared nuclear arsenal, has refused to rule out a resort to military action against Iran to prevent it aquiring a nuclear weapons capability.

Iran denies any such ambition.

Agreed a lot of it's to do with money. But for the sake of argument let's say the US is the only country that is really supporting Israel. Why don't the EU countries, for example, stand up and say they are going to start sending more supplies to the Palestinians? Yes I know, that won't happen. In the end all most countries will do is talk a lot.

One thing I never understood is being that there are more Muslims in the US than Jews (yes I know, I'm at a religious level), why the US continues to back Israel so much. More than likely it'd due to 1) money and 2) the Jewish community is able to block vote more than the Muslim community.

On a worldwide scale, seems that if the Arab community was so behind the Palestinians they could influence the US simply by cutting off oil supplies. Oops, I forgot - has to do with money. I guess money is more important to the Arabs too :twisted:
