Why do farang expats look down their noses at farang tourists for going to bars and chasing girls when in 99% of cases this is exactly what they came to Thailand for in the first place.

I want answers.

Then you should see these men in the "Lady sing-a-song" bars, where they have to buy plastic roses to give the the singer on stage. I think the girls gets 25% of the price and the rest goes to the bar owner. After 10 such flower presents you can ask the girl to join you at your table and if you are really generous, you can even ask her out. In some joints, the owner has already arranged for the nearby hotel rooms.

its normal, that farang residents want to show, that they are more adapted to Thailand, then the normal tourist.

Expats don't like the fact that tourists throw money around. Overpay the girls and increase expectations. If your on 'drunken sailor' mode for a fortnights holiday you are going to sweat money out and not care how much you pay.

This makes life tougher for the expat who knows the 'going rate' and will not pay more. If you live in Thailand for extended periods of time. You can't throw money around like when you are on holiday.

The mantra of the expat seems to be - don't overpay, you'll ruin it for everyone else.

Also expats get to be ignored in bars eventually by the girls. You get too well known. As the girls are looking for the newbie wide eyed tourist who will give them money too much !

ah, stickman wisdom. i can tell you come to thailand solely for the beaches and temples.

believe it or not, when you live here, you may find you don't spend all your time in titty bars and thus don't give a flying **** who overpays... no really, i mean it, it's possible. :shock:

and (even in titty bars) the careful observer will note that drink prices are fixed. so 'overpaying' as you refer to it really has only to do with hookers, doesn't it, since in my experience if you dont' tip the staff at all you'll still get a beer.

even more shockingly, it's possible to live in thailand and not have any interest whatsoever in barfining hookers, even while drinking in titty bars.

it is not possible, however, to drink in titty bars without being asked which bars have the best girls, or guidelines to how much to pay. the best answers IMO are "*this* bar has the best girls," and "at least ten thousand baht. you'll get better service."

in bkk there are always choices - pubs, clubs & other places selling solely alcohol. if they have none of interest in whatsoever in barfinning hookers. why don't they go to those normal places instead of those dodgy places.?

because humans copy each other. we follow each other around like lemmings.

i go coz that's where everyone else is going. and for a dodgy place they tend to be really tepid, not scandalous at all, save for the fact that it is possible to take a hooker home.

also the careful observer will note that hookers go to most of the bars likely to attract farrangs, for obvious reasons (farrangs tend to have money that they might be coaxed into parting with). they figure out pretty quick if your'e just there to drink and ignore you.

People who live here really do in general look down on tourists in bars, as most tourists dont know wether they want a **** or a hair cut while they are here, but thats what once we were all like.
