  1. 1. Gun Free Zones: Safer or More Dangerous?

Recommended Posts

I thank you all for voting. I am quite surprised that most voted saying that "GUN FREE ZONES" are MORE dangerous.

I wonder if most of you read that backwards :)

I should have maybe defined "GUN FREE ZONE" as meaning Guns Are Not Allowed in those zones.

My opinion is obviously that no guns allowed on campus make campus very dangerous, and any bad guy knows that if he/she wants to kill anyone in those areas, there wont be anyone with a gun to stop them until the police arrive.

Id be willing to bet that some students will carry some kind of a weapon on campus after what has recently happened.

It seems that universities are popular among deranged lunatics wishing to take revenge on society.

I am grateful for everyones opinions. Truth is, i did expect these kind of posts on this board.

In the end, your safety and life are no ones responsibility except your own. And i respect everyones opinion on how you choose to do that. I will say that i could never cower and hope for the best if ever confronted by a bad guy in my home or on the street. Statistics show that one has a better chance of surviving an assault by fighting back rather than complying and hoping for the best.

I will always protect myself and my loved ones, if that means putting a bullet in someone to stop them from killing me, then that is what i will do.

No hard feelings guys and gals. Take care :)

you go on about 'logical responses, vs 'emotional' responses, fair enough.

have you ever been in a situation where having a concealed handgun would have made a positive difference? in other words how many times have you ever needed one?

do you know anyone who has ever actually needed one? (polticians don't count unless you know them personally).

i'm not saying anything for or against---merely pointed out that the responses on BOTH sides are 99 percent emotion, 1 percent random, and have sweet f*ck all to do with logic or reason.

Zeus,

Are you serious? Well ok, since you asked:

HAMILTON ? A Hamilton man was shot five times early Friday morning after striking a resident with a sledgehammer during a home invasion in Lindenwald, according to Hamilton police.

Lee North, a friend of the resident seen leaving the home Friday morning, said the intruder hit Buck in the head with the hammer and that Buck retreated back to his bedroom to get his gun.

did you know him? if not, are you serious? i didnt' ask whether you read the newspaper. i asked about YOUR personal experience. YOU and PEOPLE YOU KNOW FIRSTHAND.

Dihappy,

If you feel the need to carry a gun round with you to feel safe I think that speaks volumes for not allowing people to carry firearms in the first place.

As far as I know countries like the UK do not have gun lobbies because noone feels the need to carry guns for personal safety in the first place.

Incidentally I am mystified why Thailand should appear so high on the gun related homicide statistics - 3rd after South Africa and Columbia. Gun use is not that common in Thailand even compared to neighboring countries such as the Philippines and Indonesia. I suspect that it is some sort of statistical aberration.

If you look at the often quoted statistic by nationmaster they have Thailand ranked 3rd with 0.312093 firearm murders per 1000 population.

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir_percap-crime-murders-firearms-per-capita

They also rank Thailand 14th in murders per capital with 0.0800798 murders per 1000 population. That clearly doesnt make any sense - 4 times as many people being murder by firearms as are actually being being murdered in the first place!!

I may ruffle a few feathers here but I don't care.

I think the drafters of the bill of rights were wrong to say that all people have the right to bear arms. In fact I think it's been misinterpreted.

Yes, I favor gun control. Get them out of the hands of the common people. What function to they serve? Shoot an intruder in the ass? You mey end up in court with a hopeless lawsuit!

Yes, I used to own a handgun. A .38 caliber revolver that was commonly called a "Saturday night special". I bought it at the insistance of my first wife who felt insecure. I wondered when I would come to bed at night and get shot! Well, we are divorced now, no need for a handgun. I turned it in to the local police.

So why do Americans need guns? Oh, for hunting, of course! It's cool to kill deer and ducks and bears and mountain lions and moose and elk! While at the same time the local supermarket supplies all the meat we need. So it boils down to killing undomesticated animals is cool, doesn't it?

About a week ago I contributed to a forum thread by saying that humans are still basically animals. We have never evolved to match our intelligence. Got a problem with Iraq? Just go and kill! Yes, we are still animals!

I know I'll take heat for this post. But let the animals show their colors!

Peace!

Nice post, the simple fact is, most guns should be banned!

Land owners, pest control, police, and sports rifles/shot guns, should be allowed, but kept under strict control, anything else, should be taken away before if gets any worse!

You just simple don't need a fully automatic gun that fires 100 rounds in 10 seconds!

Actually for the USA its probably too late. 29% of households already own a gun!!

You could just imagine, the police coming around to take away some red necks automatic rifle collection, carnage!

I remember when hand guns were banned, our family had quite a few, but were part of the national shooting team, the law did go a bit over the top and ban ALL hand guns, so now even our olympic team have to train abroad.

Our house does still own a number of shot guns and rifles, but it is a working farm, they are kept locked away, and used for pest control and killing sick animals.

It's people like you with their atavistic Texan mentalities, shining images of Jewish glory (a religion that installed violence as an elementary right 1500 years before Islam came up and has never adapted to any culture anywhere ever since) together with ueber-fascist power-rules-all ideas ....

It's people like you who turn this site into a cesspool.

It appears predicted heat thus far hasn't materialized. The only "animal" who disagreed with your post did it in quite an agreeable fashion and respected your viewpoint, in my opinion. Unless by "animal" you are referring to a post like the next one.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh...........yeah. And according to the site "rules" the simpleton should be banned. However, I say let the jackass post. Let him go on record and detail just exactly how whacked out his world view is. He is no more dumb, hateful or "racist" in his statements than many who post here yet manage not to get banned. Predictable responses on par with "You're the jackass" or "You mean dumb, hateful racists like you?" will be ignored.
