Has anyone seen Live Earth yet. Its nice to see so many working at spreading awareness of the earth and the climate. Conciousness can be raised and at last it is a start at being more responsible PLanet dwellars.

I heard Morgan Freeman say on a Live Earth broadcast. That "we are not ment to have dominion over the earth but we do have responsiblity". I think thats an excellant point. With awareness comes responsibilty and thats when ethics become an issue.

Live Earth is a great cause, no doubt. But those big global musical events always leave me a bit disapointed... Some performance are quite good, others are bland and uninspiring and the event as a whole lack any "spirit" or magic. What I'm trying to say is that in 3 years from now, nobody will remember that particular event. Like we've already forgot most of the previous ones (eg. for Africa, HIV, etc.) already...

Don't get me wrong, if the organizers can get some money for a good cause out of this, great! I just wish the performance was better and more unique...

"Sting"played live earth, the man who used to only fly by concorde, and was on the meaningless last flight as a freebee. So this a**hole is up there telling us working folk to use less fossil fuels, he also has many staff travelling from their homes to his mansions to run after him, when he cuts back on these then i will stop burning tyres in my back yard.

Dont get me started on tax evading Bono, telling my government how to spend my money, he used to sing anti-British songs for fcuks sake, or Bob Geldof who never went to Africa for 20 years after Live Aid 1. Maybe he has ashamed that only 5% of the money raised went to good causes the rest went into brown envelopes.

Just a load of hypercritical assholes with nothing better to do then use there inflated egos, to dictate to the rest of us.

On my next flight i am going to book 2 seats and leave 1 empty just out of spite towards these assholes.

....some good points there, not alot of "practicing what you preach" when it comes to the elite 'self titled' representatives.....

...it reminds me of John Lennon and his "roots" living, with his temperature controlled wardrobe for his fur coats????????

....it's kind of like most of the teachers in Thailand.....moralistic during the day and hedonistic during the night.....

......It's good for global awareness, but it has been an issue for decades, It's more of a passtime for people like Sting though, I remember his little trip to the jungle and his declaration for being green..............

.......what he meant to say was that he was "green" moreso because of the colour of money rather than his outspoken waffle about 'climate change'.

Do you know that '5600 tonnes' of greenhouse gasses is produced by the US alone about every 5 SECONDS or so? Live Earth is a worldwide event that takes place 24 hours.

I give them kudos for awareness building. Even if they had to burn a whole stadium to the ground I would be ok with it if the overall result would be better awareness so instead we could actually cut down on the MILLIONS OF THOUSANDS OF TONS A YEAR that goes into the atmosphere.

Don't give me this crap as they don't do this coz they are a celebrity so I don't have to do a thing. Those are just excuses. If they're making 2 million baht a month you can't expect them to live in a hut with no electricity. I would be happy if they spend 10% less on their electric bill and co2 emissions. That would be fair enough.

If only people like you would start getting of your complaining arses and do the same instead of hiding behind excuses something would actually get done.

ohh..seem i only care about the concert..

Dont worry about only enjoying the concert the planet is big enough and old enough to take care of itself.

If you actually mean this then you're just ignorant, just as well as you will never buy those two plane tickets... that would be even... well... plain stupid.

8) Cool.

Some aging stars trying to polish their shine (and to sell more of course) by free PR. Sucks.

Even FFF (18+ !) makes more sense.

I have abandoned my last car 6 years ago. Be urban and responsive! Use public transport if available!

I was talking about just the spectators travelling to the London concert would generate approximately 5,600 tonnes of greenhouse gases. You can be part of the solution and part of the problem at the same time

It's industry that contributes to this in the larger scale so if the governments don't sign up and the big businesses don't then the overall impact wont be that great regardless of how many energy saving lightbulbs you have in your house mate.

I disagree. It's the people that drive politics. If there is no awareness then nobody will ever replace their lightbulbs. Second month I lived here I replaced all of the lightbulbs in my first apartment (30 or so). I still have them in use at my current place and it saved me on average 2000 baht per month. Till now this 5000 baht 'investment' (some replaced) saved me about 60.000 baht over the years. I could not even care less then if governments have a policy about it or not. It's direct savings (money), it's less radiant heat (less AC) and it's less power consumption... (environment)

Can you imagine what will be changed if even 20% of the people start consuming 80% less on power from light bulbs alone. Here it is the huge amount of people that make the difference. Changes because of government policies as well as in businesses will pick up as a result of increased awareness.

One of the things I like about EU is the pretty strict regulations about the industry and the consumer goods (including cars save enough for the environment to be produced/imported, care for the old consumer electronics, splitting the garbage and so on).

Goverments could care for the industry by setting some laws if it and people who vote wish (and is mature enough not to be bribed by corporations), but the people must take some care in their everyday lives too.

Thanks Chris for bringing things back to point "Awareness"

If there was a way to aware the bush to sign in Kioto...

After Florida a significant progress is seen and the topic is already being discussed but still far from the rest of the industrial world. Changing lighbulbs hepls a little if someone throws such quantities in the air bacause it is more profitable that way.
