She was there about 20 years at Pata Department store's Zoo and not get well take care....

I read from Mathichon Newspaper said that her father was from USA. she was born in the zoo, which means she lives in the narrow cage since she was born, na song sarn naa....

I don't know why if the Department store have limited budget to take care them well don't ask for help from the Zoo Thailand Organization.

Some ppl went to visit her... they have seen her cried naa...

Yes, this is terrible.

But if this bothers you, then please don't go to Safari World. They do the same thing. The Safari World owner is a cruel person. Google "Ola the chimpanzee" and read about it.

I don't know if Wildaid can help, but they have an office here in Bangkok on Sukhumvit Road. Maybe try and contact them.

I also read the news this morning and have felt so bad ever since. I can't stand when people do such thing with animal. They can feel the same way human being feel. You can tell just by looking at her eyes and also those penquin's. I used to go there visit her when I was a kid, then the time goes by, I grow up but she's still there.... What can we do to help her at least to stay in the better place? Only in the newspaper isn't good enough. Thai people usually can forget about the case like this easily.

I listened to the news this morning. Finally, there are many organizations interested in this case, and now they try to push the government to take some action about it. Someone from government already went there yesterday to check the animal's condition, and some may go today to talk to the Department Store about the morality. I'm not sure if these may work, but at least, we can see some actions in public.

Loburt (a.k.a. God, as Johnno mentions  ): Thanks a lot for the no. of Wild Aid. I already sent email to WWF yesterday. Hope all those animals get better taking care of.

It is cruel to keep an animal in a cage like that. It's not natural for them. It's like a prison.

If a zoo can't keep its animals in open air enclosures that at least resemble their natural habitat to some degree, then they shouldn't be allowed to operate.

That includes animals they keep for breeding - like Safari World. Safari World keeps animals you don't see in very small cages to try and force them to breed, even when they are not capable.

The place was busted a couple of years ago for keeping more than 50 orangutans illegally and in horrible conditions. The owner was trying to run a breeding factory so he could make big money selling the orangutans, which are an endangered species. He didn't give a damn about their living conditions. And he lied about the whole thing. If it were a Western country he would have gone to jail, but the laws here are weak.

Sadly, I doubt this gorilla at PATA could ever live in the wild at this point. But he should at least be allowed to live in conditions that are more natural to him. That is the humane thing to do.

Execuse me,

Now I didn't get it... The poor animal has been behind the bars about 20 years and now you feel that something should be done??? Are you serious??? Think that's fast...

Maybe there is something wrong in the regulations/culture that a thing like that can happen... So all the animals in the "zoo's" in BKK/Phuket are legal and animal friendly? So,now you free one gorilla and the other animals get the life sentence? And your conscience is bright as a star because your started this thread...

Btw, Bcool, What's your interest??? Do you mean better later than ever...

Yep, it's bad.

Maybe this thread should be conjoined with the banging one's head against the wall about Myanmar thread.

As in, don't you wish all this hyperbole could actually achieve something?

Well then, why don't you just blame George Bush and demand he invade the zoo?

Some people in this thread have contacted WWF and other animal protection groups.

You look down your nose at others discussing a topic, but what are you doing? What have you achieved?
