English_Bob
This guy used to be Denis Pennis... and I think he was funnier then. He was witty and rude then, now he's just crude. Swearing for laughs? Yeah, hilarious in 1985.

This is a bit less offensive and is funnier too I think. These 2 are whats wrong with comedy today, in that they are just not funny. your average bloke down the pub makes me laugh more then these kind of comedians. Do a youtube search for "Bernard Manning" if you want to see the greatest joke teller of all time.
grezzzy_greer
Hello all you expats if your mail order bride pops out for 5 minutes ............ Nope - can't say it made me laugh or even raise a smile. I am no fan of people putting on annoying phony accents and saying "****" for no reason. Comedy needs to be witty...this may appeal to some...but not me... Billy Connolly is funny, he paints a picture, he examines ordinary situations and tells of his experiences in a funny and witty way...and he swears too - but not much more than a normal person might...so it is way funnier than this contrived stuff... Sorry... maybe it's just me...
menospeakthai
Billy Connolly is funny He is boring, part of the establishment and should have retired in the 80s when he was mildly amusing He constantly goes on about his working class roots (he worked in a shipyard for a few years) back when he was young most people in Glasgow worked in heavy industry so it doesnt impress the working classes, though im sure its contrite at dinner parties that he and his droning feminist wife attend. Now we all have to hear about him getting fiddled as a kid by his father, where is the comedy in that?????? Im not into all BBC type establishment comedians (Jennifer Saunders and that ilk) they just arent what scumbags like myself enjoy. Cant beat a good bit of Jim Davidson though, he was on the BEEB, but was a success before going on there.

But the BEEB brought us great comedy like The Office, Extras, Little Britain, The Fast Show, Monty Python, The Young Ones, Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise, Blackadder, Have I Got News For You, Not the Nine O'Clock News... and oh I don't know... you fill in the rest. menospeakthai
Some of them shows are good especially before political correctness took over, but a program such as Fools and Horses and the Fast Show would have been made without the BEEB. Think what we find funny maybe total opposites, i like offensive, racist, sexist, (put you country in here) is superior , complete piss take, belittling people type of humour..... i was born 40 years too late. Mike Reids another fantastic joke teller.
Stramash
Billy Connolly is still as funny now as he was 20 years ago as long as you see past the Laird image and that idiot of a wife! He goes on about his working class roots as they are what defined him and his comedy and working as a welder was the perfect plade to hone his banter as well as the chats between songs when he was big on the folk scene. He is also one of the best banjo players I have ever heard. Was lucky enough to be present at a jam session many years ago with Rory Gallagher, Billy and Nige who was then a guitarist in the Exploited!! A strange combination but fantastic to listen to/ But am surprised no one has mentioned more obvious comedians than they have so heres my tuppence worth; Best British comedians of all time - Bob Monkhouse for his encyclopaedic knowledge of jokes on any subject, and Ronnie Barker for just being a genius. But my prize for funniest man of all time goes to the late great Bill Hicks, a lot of his material is as relevant today as when he wrote it and I can imagine he would have had a field day with Bush Jr and Iraq. Often copied, or in Denis (scuzzbucket) leary's case, completely ripped off (where is justice in the world when Hicks dies and Leary lives?). His brilliance lives on... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX1CvW38cHA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHey5g56CIs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv2qLOiioPc
menospeakthai
Bob Monkhouse was very funny as a stand up (for a posh bloke), but not to good at presenting or sketch shows which he often done, his more un PC stand up routine was unfortunately never mainstream. I worked in Shipyards as a trainee welder as a 16yo boy, as my father and grandfather did (ITS NOTHING TO BE PROUD OF AND ITS A CRAP JOB WITH CRAP MONEY) and i find Connelly's tales a bore, he only worked there for a few years ffs and he hasnt lived a working class life for 50 years so from that point of view his stories are of no relevance to todays supressed Glaswegians, id sooner listen to tales from people who are the real deal. It was funny when he lost his book of jokes he'd been working on all his life and made a plea for anyone that found it to return it to him. The answer to him was if i find it how am i meant to know its a joke book. Boom Boom.
Stramash
ok, well have to agree to disagree on Mr Connolly. Oh, and why are we people of Glasgow suppressed? Has there been a coup while I was sleeping?
menospeakthai
ok, well have to agree to disagree on Mr Connolly. Oh, and why are we people of Glasgow suppressed? Has there been a coup while I was sleeping? Some theorists say the working classes everywhere are suppressed and as we were discussing Billy working class Glasgwegian roots it applied. PS In certain areas of Glasgow the life expectancy is 54 hardly a sign of being the ruling elite. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2006/jan/21/health.politics Now it wasnt as deprived as this in good ol Connelly's day. Stramash
and in certain areas of Glasgow its 82!!! Calton is the area where it is 54 (lower than Baghdad). Very deprived, high alcohol/drug/smoking use, poor diets etc.
