English Lesson

Posted: 12 Dec 2008 12:01 pm

I've recently passed my TESOL certificate; I've got quite a lot of free time on my hands at the moment. I'm looking to teach private one to one sessions or possibly little groups of 3-4, I'm that bored at the moment I'd consider 400-500baht an hour. I'd prefer to teach from my room, but I'll consider travelling if the distance is reasonable. I'm best suited to teaching elementary or pre-intermediate level students, any age.

If interested just e-mail me at craigdude2001xxxxyahoo.com

Finished a TESOL (one of the most useless "qualifications" I've ever seen) and is suited for young children and other beginning students... Sounds EXACTLY what bCool is looking for... :roll: I would think there's a WEE bit of difference between teaching young kids and preparing someone for a TOEIC exam. Look harder bCool.

Thks MM I have no idea what's difference between TEFEL and TESOL, not sure my English teachers in the past got those kind of certificates. hrrrrrr, my time is limited now... if not train myself harder than i did before... (by reading and listening) 850++ points that's my goal.

I'll be at Chula on Saturday and Sunday and will ask then. The guy on the forum is NOT what you're looking for. You need someone who is experienced in TOEIC exam prep. Not someone who's only experience is with little kids and beginners.

No, but what I do is give yellow cards to people mocking a Mod when I'm just doing my job... :D

@bCool...

Next time you beg people to keep on topic and want answers to your threads, after the third post when it goes off in a completely different direction, don't come knocking...

To try to help the OP.

B600 is not expensive for a properly qualified teacher. I get more than double that working for a company and I generally ask for more for private classes because this involves more work for me through not being able to use the materials at my company.

To be completely honest with you though, you do not need a native speaker to learn TOEIC. TOEIC is a "receptive" test. All it examines is your ability to comprehend English, not actually produce it. The test is broken into 2 main sections with the first as listening and the second as reading/grammar. You can study yourself by buying "Preparation series for the NEW TOEIC test" published by Longman. Make absolutely sure it is the "new" TOEIC test as it was updated last year and has different sections than previous ones.

You can use online material to support self-study - this is a good site:

http://www.englishclub.com/esl-exams/ets-toeic-practice.htm

The only benefit, as I see it, from employing a teacher to help you is to learn the strategies that can help you pick up more points. Aside from that, any general English tuition is likely to be just as beneficial as a specific "TOEIC course".

On top of that, leading up to the exam you want to spend as much time as possible reading and listening to English.

850 is a difficult goal though unless you can really immerse yourself in the language.

Good luck! :)
