I've read some bad reviews about that California gym, it seems showy and maybenot the right place if you are serious about working out with free weights etc. But anyway, someone tell me if I'm wrong as I have never been there. palmyfan
The cheaper club will probably be California, but depend on which gym you gonna go(area),it can get on your nerv pretty fast .I used to be a member of Cali, but i switched for Fitness first. The equipement is pretty much the same, but the staff is really more friendly, and the place really less crowded. I used to paid 800 baht a month for california fitness but i heard that they make a cheaper price for the moment.Right now i am paying 1800 baht monthly for fitness first and good luck for having a better deal with them. They are pretty tough on negociation. Both of the group have gym in the principal are of bkk. I hope i have been helpfull
Guest marty
I do mainly cardiovascular workouts and I don't use free weights too often but I was a regular at True Fitness in Bangkok (Asok). They have gyms at Asok and Zen. I got a one-off month membership for 2,000 baht. Later, when I stayed in BKK for a few months end of 2007, their monthly rate was 1,700 baht a month (no joining fee). They'll ask for a higher price, but if you stand your ground they will drop the price. These gyms have very good free weight areas. I did try fitness first at a hotel in between Nana and Asok, but they wanted 5,000 a month and a joining fee. Yeah right. I tried California Wow but I was not impressed by the ever-so-happy grinning idiot salesperson or the high price or their inflexibility. Just my experience. I'll be going back to True next week when I am back in BKK for a while
Neo
Be careful with Cali Wow. Several people I know have said that the sales staff told them they were signing a 1 month trial, which turned out to be a 1 year contract. Read it carefully before signing and make sure they don't switch it! Also it seems that they routinely keep charging your credit card after your membership has ended. I know people who had to cancel their credit card to stop Cali Wow charging them. Seems like a rip off to me.
PJack
I have visited Cali Wow, True Fitness, Fitness First, and the stupid place in Soi Ari that closed a few months ago (I forget the name even though I was member for 1.5 years). I have also visited the Sky Fitness on top floors of Sirinthorn Building and a few of the hotels - Mae Ping, Conrad which have fitness centers for membership. The best choice is True Fitness, for all the reasons mentioned by people earlier. Be sure to stand your ground and wear down the sales person to get the best rate.
