Whether or not he was guilty, there should have been more thought put to the matter vis a vis his return. He may have to die without proving his innocence, but hundreds of families have to live without closure. Closure that may have been a step closer had he been well enough to survive through the appeals process and for more information to come to light. With this outcome, cui bono?? No i don't, otherwise i would have seen the earlier poofy thread  Agreed to your point about about him not having time to prove his innocence. as im sure there would have been more enlightening information when his next pointless appeal was set in motion. Pisses me off tho that as you say, the welcome was predictable and why the bold Kenny would take that decision.......After all he was tried and found guily of mass murder in CZ

And don't think the next appeal would have been so pointless; was a lot more information and questions. Gauci (the main witness) seems shady as f*ck and not reliable. Plus the UK wanted to suppress a lot of info for 'security purposes'. Why? Surely the truth is more desirable. I still favour an Iran/PFLP-GC involvement, but conjecture is useless now. I think that even if there was the loosest possible connection to Megrahi, they still had no choice as there was a lot that would have come out at next appeal that a lot of people wanted to stay unheard. I also don't think Megrahi wanted or asked for that return; that was a huge pr excercise, especially given Libya's impending 40th anniversary coup/revolution celebrations. digitalcat
Im going to play devils advocate here: 1. Scenario one: An American imprisoned in North Korea that most people believe are false charges is released. Koreans think Americans are worse scum for welcoming them back home. 2. Scenario 2: (WWII tiems) A Russian partisan (Guerrilla Fighter) that blew up a Nazi train (with civilians) is released in the end of the war. He is hailed home as a hero. Just saying. To them he's a hero... whether they are brainwashed or just think he took a chunk out of the enemy and got away with it. Can you really blame them? Stramash
The news coverage today was pretty interesting. Now that Gaddafi has re-entered the international arena, words are his choice of weapons, and boy did he use them today. Having been filmed giving Megrahi a personal welcome, he went on to make a speech where he thanked Gordon Brown and the Queen for encouraging the Holyrood government to release Megrahi. He then went on to discuss the strong friendship and future trade links between the 2 countries. I would bet that the Washington-London phone lines were buzzing after that one!! GoodKarma
those are some very good insensitive points.. I would love to see how you would play devils advocate for more mass murders like dahmer, or gacy... lets face it and be realistic the guy is no hero he's a zero and slipped through like so many others do... through a western court technicality..I wonder if there are any communist korean court technicalities?

I really wouldn't like to debate weither (compassionate) is an apple or an orange..let's face it if it was brit, yank, slav, russian, etc .etc. and they were in a libyan prision they would probably still be their waiting on the worms...I ask you the same question is there any korean court compassion releases going on the near future anytime soon? I never bloody mentioned Korea?? And because one country cannot show compassion should we all be heartless b*stards?? As I have said before, I have huge doubts as to his guilt. Unfortunately, it is doubtful the truth will come out now. The families of the victims cannot have closure and he has lost the chance to try and clear his name at appeal, and no matter what many believe, he will still die a guilty man. But...Megrahi himself aside, I have nothing but condemnation for the way the Libyan Government has turned his return into a huge pr exercise. What you also have to remember is that not ALL the families opposed his release; there are many who have doubted his conviction and have seen him as a scapegoat. But they had hoped for answers from the next appeal and they too have now been denied. Cui bono??
GoodKarma
nope; there are definite similarities. I will leave it at that..I believe I have said what was on my mind just like michael jackson the dude had his day in court. ironically the same court system that put him behind bars is releasing him so I suppose the point is moot anyway right....
