The problem with this speech is that the president has seemingly more authority then any TV speech.

My point was about all the people beeing cool making their remarks AFTER it was published.

I didnt even know the speech would be today and because I knew the white house were giving out the speech 24 hours prior so I assumed that it were tomorrow because their timemark said 8th sep and because it was the whitehouse offical website i though they were the first to publish it.

Quite obvious and logical thought process id say.

So yea, I wasnt quite accurate because you know Ive got real life stuff to do and dont have the time to be a nit all day about every non trivial point.

I agree with you that the timing of when it was or was not released is trivial.

However, and don't take this the wrong way, but I think the fault was with how you reacted to the very idea of Obama's speech in the first place.

You automatically assumed that his speech was going to be in some way an attempt at indoctrination or politicising young people to his way of thinking.

Now, given that the plan was always to talk to kids from kindergarten level upwards, that was always going to be highly unlikely.

There was no real necessity to see the actual speech; anyone with at least a modicum of intelligence could have written in advance most of what Obama ended up saying.

But the semi hysteria whipped up by the anti Obama press (and often inaccurate - see the reason this thread started) was always going to blind some to the glaring obviousness of what he was going to talk to the kids about.

It's not about right or wrong, or right or left, but just sheer bloody common sense that a speech to ALL schoolchildren was going to be an encouraging, self esteem building oratory on the importance of education.

there's that old saying; look before you leap. Perhaps for the internet age, that should be think before you type.

As a parent I would be concerned about a president who talks to my children without me knowing what he will say. I would not want my child to hear propaganda from whoever president without me knowing what will be said.
