sorry N' Aum.

on the topic... it is reciprocal as Stu pointed out, or perhaps reciprocated. but that is only when it is mutual.

something tells me you know more about this than we do.

I-m afraid it has little to deal with reciprocity

If you love somebody you just love him or her, regardless the fact you are loved in return.

That is why things are never easy

whenever we say "I love you", we always hope it will be reciprocated. If so, then it is all complete.

But, at the same time, we should never expect anything from the other, if we truly love them. If it is reciprocated just because of the other's expectations, rather than just naturally, then that's not being true.

It is very good if it's reciprocated...but in reality, not all the people you love will love you back the way you want it and vice versa.

Loburt >>> yes, unrequited love... but it's quite hard to reach that...

ghee >>> why it isn't?.... in your case....well, just wonder about "your case"...lol

Rodinos >>> yes, unconditional.... but somehow "we" make conditions and complications ourselves....

PJack >>> you might be right.... i would know (more) about it... since my experiences teach me that... also i believe that we all know about reciprocated love.... our own way.

Vento >>> ammm... not sure about a little to deal with reciprocity... agree for...if you love somebody, you just love him or her.... but when you feel that you arent loved in return.... how far you can go? yeah, finally, it aint easy...

PeeMarc >>> totally agree with you.

"Reciprocated love (union with the other) is associated with fulfillment and ecstasy. Unrequited love (separation) with emptiness, anxiety, or despair" (Hatfield & Rapson, 1993, p. 5)"

Love is interpersonal relationships... and yes, reciprocation is usually deeply desired.

Love can be anything... love can be one-sided....love can be reciprocated.... love can be happiness... love can be pain...

it depends what we "choose" it to be....

anyway, love is no expectation... love is no contract.... just "pleasure"...

AAA, as I have said before, Love is one of those words... that everyone seems to know what it means, but no one can define it.

I think that I know what you are asking about love being reciprocal....what makes this complicated, is that people define love differently, consider different actions to be expressions of love. So you could be giving or returning love, and the other person may not feel that they are being loved.

Maybe if we learn by our experiences, we will know real love when we experience it. (Maybe by the 3rd or 4th divorce???)

Our modern day concept of "romantic" love and marriage, is historically, a very new experiment.

(Oh my gosh, I am thinking toooo much, where is that cat nip, anyway?)

friendlyCat >>> agree with you again : )

for myself, i cant define the word "love" exactly... i just feel from my heart.... and do it.... not just speak out...

you raised the good point... people learn differently about love... so the point is how we can get the mutual understanding.... which would be another part of love...

somehow, we spend time too much to learn one thing... on the other hand, we (some) might spend the entire life to learn this one.

(found the cat nip yet?)

This is not exactly what you are talking about, but perhaps this perspective may help: Once a man has a child, I think a man has a better understanding of what love is, and yes, love is unconditional and often not reciprocated. For women, being more intelligent/sensitive creatures, my guess is that they understand this at an earlier age, even before they have children. But even with this understanding, there has to be some recogniton that the water well of love has its depth and limit; that is to say, if only one partner in the relationship is extending love and giving support, with little or nothing in return, there may come a time when the well goes dry. So, even if you think to yourself, "He (she) knows I love him (her)," it is good idea to reinforce the feeling and assure one's partner, especially if, as Aaaum points out, it is something that you truly feel from your heart.
