Reminds me of the first time I visited NY and went into a diner for a sandwich, I think they were about 75 cents at the time (this was in the early 70s). In Europe the size of sandwiches varies with the perceived elegance, the smaller they are, the more elegant. Thinking of elegant European sandwiches I ordered six and to my shame I managed to get through four of them. Since then I've always checked out the size of sandwiches before ordering them!
