A new study by The Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) seems to indicate that Thais lie to pollsters. According to the study, only 3% of Thais consume alcohol and 80% claim to exercise regularly. Those numbers seem blatantly at odds with both the reality seen everyday in the country as well as other reports. For instance, here is a 2014 ThaiPBS story which reports that Thailand is the top alcohol-consuming country in the ASEAN region. The Center for Alcohol Studies indicated that 31.5% of Thais consumed alcohol regularly. To believe that alcohol consumption dropped from 31.5% to 3% in two years beggars belief. Even a complete prohibition on alcohol wouldn’t drive the number so low so fast. Combined with the fact that in 2015 the World Health Organization attributed 26% of all traffic fatalities in Thailand to alcohol leaves one wondering how The Thai Health Promotion Foundation had the testicles necessary to publish such a load of rubbish.

According to research by Euromonitor, Thailand ranks 4th in the world in per capita alcohol consumption. I'm sure I've helped those stats at some point. :-) http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2014/02/07/thailand-4th-liquor-drinking

Two Prime Minister's Office announcements - one banning drinking of alcoholic beverages in vehicles and the other banning sales and drinking of alcohol in factories - have been published in the Royal Gazette and were effective from today, Aug 8. File Photo The two announcements were issued under the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act of 2008. Jadet Chaowilai, adviser of the Network of People Affected by Alcoholic Drinks, thanked Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra for issuing the two laws which hopefully will reduce the number of deaths, injuries and disabilities as a result of drinking alcohol. On average, about 30 people are killed in road accidents every day and the figure rises to 50 to 60 people every day during the New Year and Songkran festivals because of alcohol, he said. Despite the high damage caused by alcoholic drinks the companies that produce them do not have to take any responsibility, Mr Jadet said. What is worse, many non-drinkers are killed or disabled as a result of other people abusing alcohol, he added. Mr Jadet said the new laws will also improve safety in factories http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/306675/alcohol-ban-orders-take-effect About time. Too many people die because of chuckleheads drinking and driving in Thailand.

This came up at dinner this evening when someone asked why it was so hard to get good weed in Thailand. When I say that Thais are natural stoners, I mean it in a good way. They are laid back, like to smile, and don't sweat the small stuff...natural stoners. They are already chilled out. I know that's not the reason why they don't legalize it, but I got into this dramatic monologue about how alcohol is worse than weed. If one should get legalized over the other, throw someone in jail for drinking and not for lighting up (of course I had a couple of beers by this point). Stoners don't get in bar fights...the worst they would do is eat too much pizza that night or play too many video games. Driving under the influence? Stoners can't be bothered. Go rioting through the city because your team lost (or won) a big match? Stoner says, "can't we all just get along, man?" The world needs a good collective puff of weed. And don't bring up that gateway drug malarky. Alcohol is by far worse than weed. Should this have been a journal, or is there anyone out there who disagrees with me?

As I understand it, places like 7-11 and Tesco can sell alcohol during the following hours: 11.00 am.-2.00 pm. and 5.00 pm.- Midnight I can understand the Midnight to 11am restriction but does anybody know why there's a 3 hour restriction between 2pm and 5pm?

To the TF gents : I need someone to try and explain the need for all these sitting on sofa watching sport on TV and beer thing. What is it all about? Most of the time you can sit in front of TF forever, and then ask us, ladies to bring you some beer.. Then you go out to watch sport on TV in a bar and drink beer with your buddies. I'll admit that I have shoes, bags and jewellery addictions but that?s easy to explain because "that's just the way it is," but I'd really like to hear from you...what's up with all these sport on TV and beer thing?? (sorry Rob, can?t help it)

Many TFers on Sunday morning probably promised themselves they would never drink again! If you actually really stopped drinking, how much time and money would it free up and what would you do with it?
