I noticed the posting of Why Thai girl like farang guy? is gettin popular. I think it would be more interesting if the girls would mention some of the things they don't like about farang.

The headline is a quote from one of my favorite พลพล songs... But now phua thai politician Sunai Julphongsathorn suggests that poor thaiwomen, marry a german, swede or norweigian (they never suggest danes ) He is looking to get a lot of wotes in the future I am sure .

Why some (Thai) girls prefer and like farangs? There must be a lot of different reasons or??

I tend to avoid lower Sukhumvit, not much around there entices. However, the last couple of weeks I have been out with friends a bit and on 3 separate occasions observed a homeless farang looking guy! (In soi 4, soi 11 & near soi 20). He is a tall guy in his mid 40s with a beard, smelly, dirty clothing (shirt and jeans) and clutching a dirty day pack seemingly with all of his belongings. I have not seen him beg nor seek a handout but each time I only passed him for a moment so I really have no idea. I wonder how he got to this point? How does someone not have an exit strategy if all is going downhill in Thailand? Was he ripped off in one of those infamous scams we hear about? To be honest, I wanted to chat with him the last time but I was out with friends heading to a club and I didn't have the courage to do so. I cannot imagine being homeless and destitute in another country with no friends or support. There are many stories of guys losing everything in the 'paradise of Thailand' but this is the first time I have seen a farang living on the streets who seemingly have lost everything. Even the few farang beggers/scammers ('money for a ticket home') over the years never seemed to be that bad. This guy really looks like he is just barely surviving. Has anyone else seen this guy or do you know anything about him?

Are you dating a male gold digger? You know, those male westerners whose are rather good looking and somewhat young, whose are after wealthy, perhaps Hi-So, Thai girls/women for their luxury/money/class ? There are quite a few here in Thailand. What do you think of them?

Since we have "Thai things that bother others" thread, why not "Things that bother Thais."? 1. A farang who takes his shoes off in a flight to BKK and his feet stink!! BIG TIME!!!

There are quite a few White Boys and a few Brothers living in Thailand. They've lived there for quite a few years. Yet, I get the sense that they are all on the outside looking in. Some seem quite put off by it. Others not so much. Not quite tourists any longer but certainly not a real part of the land, the culture, the people or the nation. One can move to America, Britain, Canada or Australia and assimilate quite nicely. Fairly easily. One can become Governor of a State as witnessed by the political rise of Arnold Schwarzenneger. A generation later, your child can become President as witnessed by the political rise of Barack Obama. One can become American almost instantly. Regardless of race or origin. I don't know about Australia, Britain or Canada for certain. But I'd say that it is mostly the same as America in this regard. (now given, it can be quite difficult to get there in the first place) Of course, there are throw backs. Racists and bigots and the like. But they are really the fringe element. Much like extremists in any ideology from any part of the world. Can this happen in Thailand? Is a person/family able to move to Thailand and become part of the fabric of the culture or nation? Or will an outsider always be an outsider? Especially non-Asian looking folks. I get the feeling from reading remarks by the most vocal ex-pats that Thailand is not readily accessible to them. At least not in whole. I'd love to hear what a Thai person has to say about this. Of course, the ex-pats on the board need no invitation to comment.

THE Australian woman arrested in Thailand for allegedly stealing a bar mat says she's "scared, helpless and alone" and is pleading for the Rudd government to intevene!! Annice Smoel, who spent four days in a cramped Thai jail with three other women, described her holiday gone wrong as "totally unbelievable''. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,,25506200-2702,00.html?from=public_rss This strory has created major headlines here today especially on talkback radio!!! I guess she is seeing a different side of Phuket at the moment!!! Thoughts!!!

Please excuse my ignorance, but what are 'Farangs?' I see the word pop up in a lot of conversations, but have no idea what Farangs are. If anyone could fill me in, I'd much appreciate it. Thanks.

Hello my question is a simple one. Are there any amongst you who are living and working in Thailand, but do not live in Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket? This question does not apply to those who are retired. For those of you who don't live in the above mentioned cities why don't you live there and how did you chose where you live? My reason for asking is I would like to move to Thailand and not live in the above mentioned cities. BKK and CM because of pollution and Phuket because I don't think I could find a job there. I don't expect many responses but hopefully will get a few.

Can someone please explain.. When Thais use the term "farang", does it mean foreign, as in any foreigner from outside Thailand? e.g. Would they use it for say a Chinese or Vietnamese? Or does it mean caucasian? If it means foreigner do they consider themselves farang when living/working abroad? :?: :?:

I'm stupid to be fooled again...now it's from a TF member. I found out because he's not wiser or maybe he did that on purpose so I know that I'm not the chosen one. If you were fooled by a TF member, what would u do? Will u tell other members? Or just leave him / her around for his/her fun? How many girls would be sad and have broken heart from this guy??? Same dialogues were given to different girls and he has enjoyed pxxxy he longs for.. Congratulations and Best Wishes to you!

I had an experience up in Chaing Mai once, was wandering around town, visiting the many temples there and taking pics. One of the temples was adjacent to a school and it was recess time. As soon as the kids saw me, they were about aged 4 or 5 I guess, they rushed over and encircled me, pointing up to me, smiling, running around in circles, all of them saying "Farang!". I thought it quite novel, I mean, here I am a special person in their eyes, really made me smile. Got some neat pics too. Then I was reading something that ac69uk wrote, where he had a similar experience with a couple of youngsters doing the farang chant also. So it got me to thinking, why? Why is it that Thai kids will surround visitors and tourist and yell farang? I mean, I know what the word means and all, and I don't find it offensive in the least. Just what is it in the Thai culture that causes this? Do moms and dads, brothers and sisters, teachers and etc, tell the little tikes, "There's a farang, you know what to do!"? Just something that kids do or is it something that they are taught?
