The effects of the Icelandic volcano eruption

don't understand why everyone seems to think this is some tragedy. It may just be the salvation of the planet!

Think about it: Suppose that all that ash that the unpronounceable volcano in Iceland is putting into the upper atmosphere not only slows down, but stops the warming trend of climate change? The world would then owe Iceland its thanks, making it perhaps the most popular state on the planet!

Thank you, Iceland!

Have you any idea how much carbon a volcano spews into the atmosphere? You might want to check your atmosphere science before getting your hopes up.

Trains, no planes, maybe an automobile, and what about the ferry? Travel companies have denied profiteering from the volcanic dust cloud as stranded holidaymakers face paying premium fares to get home after the Easter break. Channel ferry firms and Eurostar trains were fully booked this weekend as the Eyjafjallajökull volcano continued to pump ash into the atmosphere and aircraft were grounded across Northern Europe.

John Cleese, the comedian, paid €3,800 for a taxi from Oslo to Brussels after becoming stranded by the flight ban. The Monty Python star said: “We checked every option, but there were no boats and no train tickets available. That’s when my fabulous assistant determined the easiest thing would be to take a taxi.â€

P&O Ferries reported a 40 per cent increase in bookings across the Channel. Prices for foot passengers increased from £60 for a return to more than £150 over the weekend.A spokesman for the company denied increasing prices because of the crisis: “We just have so much demand, we’re having to staff up our ships to the maximum capacity so that we can take as many passengers as possible. We’ve not increased our prices above the normal levels whatsoever.â€

The port of Dover said that some ferry operators had made arrangements during the night to take additional foot passengers. Eurostar expected to sell every ticket for its weekend services. The £69 return tickets increased to £179 single. Lesley Retallack, a Eurostar spokeswoman, said: “We are absolutely not trying to take advantage of the situation. It’s quite simply the fact that the demand has taken our prices to the top of our existing fare structure.†But the cost of a single train ticket from London to five main cities was 33 per cent higher than those booked a week in advance, according to WhiteConcierge, which provides rail reservations. Addison Lee, a minicab company, received requests for car journeys to Paris, Milan, Amsterdam and Zurich.

Sure some companies are not making any money out of " An Act of God"

Since Icelands bank troubles we've all been shouting "We want our cash back" not our ash back.

This is how we tell it here in Iceland: 8)

Britain:

WTF Iceland?!? Why did you send us volcanic ash ? Our airspace has shut down.

Iceland: What ? It's what you asked for isn't it ?

Britain: NO! Cash! Cash you dyslexic ****. CASH!

Iceland: woooops...
