Teddy
Apologies if this thread has been done before. I'm looking at flights from UK to BKK....at the moment the prices have fallen a little but they have stop overs, one company "EVA Air" said theyll do a direct flight for about 40GBP more. Is it worth the extra or are the direct flights a fast track to insanity? p.s. By insanity I mean the mental state, not calling BKK mental.....or am I? Oh yea TF... i went there. Also, Ive never heard of EVA Air before, anyone flown with them? if so, what are they like?

They are the only airline that I have used for the last 15 years to go to Thailand. Well I tried Thai once, and Emirates once. They are Taiwanese. Their planes are all new, and by going direct, you save that 2-3 hour stopover in the Middle East. The only thing that I can moan about is the food. Not great, but then what airline food is. I have not tried their economy. Evergreen premier deluxe is good, sort of between econ and business. A bit more space. Business seats are flat bed type, but slightly sloping, not dead flat. I am flying business class, and ebookers.com were about GBP 1,337, whereas Trailfinders were GBP 1440. Good flight times too. Leave 21:30 out, and depart BKK 12:50 afternoon, to get home about 19:00. None of that midnight departure sh*t. They don't get the top arrival gates like Thai, so a bit of a walk when you arrive. EVA are owned by the Evergreen group. A massive shipping, hotel , and freight company. Sometimes you can get a combined deal with the Evergreen hotel in BKK. That's where they put all their airline staff. Teddy
Excellent, cheers for the info. Yea,I was looking at Ebookers also. Was thinking of flying Qatar as tey have only a 1hr40 stop over. But if EVA are worth a punt, ill probably go with them. On the food front, yea all plane food gives a pain in the ass (literally).lol Thanks again.
funky_house
One other thing, although it might not be of much interest to you. They have recently started a code share with Bangkok Airways. That means, if you have an onward flight with BKK Air, you can send your luggage straight through from LHR to your destination in Thailand, and reverse. E.g. Its much more convenient when going to and from Samui. It also makes it more sure that you will make your connection, and a bit cheaper if you book the tickets together. Yea, Ive also been wondering about the break as well. But I guess if I fly direct, I wouldve done both. If there was a £100 difference for a 1 or 2hour layover then obv the layover would be chosen. Ah, I dont know, decisions decisions. Oh and Missy. Thanks for the message, I found your number on some public forums. lol...Will be calling.

Don't forget, you also have to face BKK immigration after all that.
Crustyjuggler
the cheapest flight from lodon i can find is around 400GBP with Etihad and they are they good but then u have 1 stop I flew with Etihad.. They're very good i thought, with a quick transfer (1.5 hrs) and 'silver cutlery' to eat your food with.. Comfortable planes with good in-flight service. This Eva flight sounds interesting, i might try them next time.

Don't forget, you also have to face BKK immigration after all that. Done a bit of thinking, and I am going to go with EVA, its from LHR as well, which is a lot closer to my house. Saves having to shift down the Gatwick. At least this way Ive done them both and then can decide which is te lesser of 2 evils.lol Dealing with Immigration is bad even if I had a few days to rest up in a spa.lol
