What do you normally do when you feel very depressed?

Honestly...

If I realize that I'm feeling bad about things I shouldn't feel bad about (ie small or stupid things), it's usually something else in my life that I need to fix. Either I'm becoming lazy and unproductive, not exercising enough, I've been putting off doing something important that I need to take care of.

I usually like to start by going to the fitness center. That clears my head before I start attacking any loose ends in my life. Try going for a run.

Real Depression is not something you can fix with a quick cure you always have to deal with the root of the problem.

Feeling low and a bit down with life is a different story and the answer to that depends on the reason for feeling low but my top cures are good company, a good book and of course music!

Talking can be a great therapy for mild depression whether with a friend or loved one or a professional. If it's just feeling down then whatever normally makes you happy is brilliant cure; music, reading, dancing etc.

If however there is a pattern to the depression and it is returning more frequently, then you need to speak to a professional. Medication may be needed, but first you need a real diagnosis. Most depression related disorders are treatable and there are plenty of alternative therapies that help too if you don't want to be too medicated (massage, acupuncture, creative visualisation etc)

Think the most important message I could give is; DON'T BE ASHAMED OR EMBARRASSED.

In the UK, it is reckoned that around 1 in every 4 people will suffer some form of depression in their lives. Some can be short term and may be related to a stressful event such as divorce or bereavement. Some can be more enduring and can be related to more underlying issues.

What if you're depressed if you're not depressed? That's not a total joke. Many people can become depressed because they don't feel certain feelings about things going on around them.
