Will You Ever Stay in Overstay? :P

Question

:) Ok, I have never stayed in Overstay (in BKK), which is said to be the cheapest hostel in BKK at AUD4.05/night/person and am not related to the management as well. But I do feel that this place looks quite fun/hilarious to stay just for the fun of it and it has a real character of its own (judging from the photos), despite most of the reviews in Hostel Bookers and HostelWorld complaining that it is literally crawling with bed bugs and crying out loud with poor hygience.

Have a read through all the reviews, look at the photos and the facilities, and for the fun of it, decide whether you will seriously stay there LOL ;)

As someone who has never stayed in a hostel . . . no, I would not stay there.

;) You mean you will not stay there cos you never will stay in all hostels? Or just this one? Cos when I told one of my friends about Overstay, he took a look at the pics and was quite taken aback that the 'beds' were just mattresses on the floor!

I have not stayed in a hostel before too, but this one looks rather funny and one of its kind. Although I must admit I will probably not sleep there cos the checkout time is an unearthly 6am... Maybe just to enjoy the place's vibes...

I've also never stayed in a hostel.....but judging by the reviews (the 2 pictures noticeably don't show the dorms) that place sounds like a squat, so I wouldn't step a foot in that place let alone stay a night lol

:) Yeah, the reviews sound really bad. I think maybe my mind is a bit off lately that I am thinking of doing it as a form of adventure cos some of the reviews (the very few, though) say if one doesn't mind the dirt, the place is "full of character" (Lol, consolation, maybe?)

The first link (the Hostel Bookers) do show the rooms and I notice they are literally thin mattresses in a colourful room. Reminds me of drug dens (btw, one of the reviews said this place has a huge drug culture, with staff and guests lying around in a stupor the next morning). Not that I am using drugs, anyway ;) Maybe just curious to see the place haha.

K, I had a look at the pictures......still no. hahaha.

Well it does say it's a 'meeting place' so maybe you could go there under those pretences & then later decide if you wanna stay?

;) Gd idea, Teila... But if ever I'm staying there, I swear I won't be doing it alone cos for both webbies, its safety seems often to score among the lowest, lol... My stuff walking off when I'm not aware/asleep does not sound very attractive to me haha...

Actually come to think of all my concerns about it, it is rather ironical that I vote for "yes"...

... the funniest reviews so far are those which said, "entered and immediately left" and "likes: nothing, dislikes: everything"... Never seen a hostel or hotel ever getting such negative comments... Quite entertaining to read, actually...

I don't stay in hostels at all. I figure if I need to live that cheap I should probably be at work making real money rather than off traveling around the world.

No, no no, this question about Overstay is not about money at all ;) It's about will you be willing to brave the bed bugs and all cos the place is so unbelievably crazy?

I guess you mean you will never stay in a hostel, not even just for adventures? ;)

I've done it before by accident, and I'm sure that if I live here for a while its bound to happen again. Whatever...they just want money if they see that you're not a complete loser (with no money).

:) Cool, you have? What do you mean 'by acciden'? Can tell more about it? I think I am totally attracted by the craziness of the place. When you stayed there, did you find the bed bugs thingy and the "oh so full of character" stuff for real, or are they just hyped up?

Well I won't stay at that hostel for sure. First I bet I've to share the bathroom with others, no privacy at all. Second, I can't sleep on unhealthy and dirty bedsheet which can affect my sleeping the whole night. Last I don't want to hear any loud noise which I had experience at university dome since 14 years ago.

:) In that sense, I think you made the right choice about Overstay cos one of the gals who reviewed complained that they play trance music "as loud as possible" until "3 or 4am"... LOL... N the next day, the staff and many guests are lying all over the place hhahahaha :)

Best of all, over 50% of the reviews complained about bed bugs, and some even got the whole body bitten...

Oh schnap!

Slap me on the hand for not reading the thread before posting. I thought you meant "have you ever overstayed your visa?"

No, I have never stayed in that place.

well hearing there may be company in bed is intriguing...

but I do draw the line at insects ( jellyfish and reptiles --jaaa....predictable bedbugs ---NO)

the place does sound like an adventure (maybe misadventure)...this would be stepping way beyond going to his place for a drink!

No. Never at all. If I need to stay in a hostel my life has taken a very bad turn and I would rather focus on getting my life back on track than hanging out with a bunch of hippies talking about how cool the full moon party is.

If it were about a hostess, I would be more interested......

But seriously - no, I'm out of this age. I've done this during my Interrail Tour more than 30 years ago (Interrail: You buy a train ticket valid for four weeks and travel as much as you like across most of Europe, also including some ferries and busses), but now, I need a bit of comfort - and silence.

I have stayed in Youth Hostels in my younger days in Farang countries hostels are good if you travel alone easy to meet people but in Thailand there are so many cheap places to stay guesthouses etc etc!!! I like my privacy these days so I would give them a miss including the one mentioned!!!!
