Don't read the forum then. Why bother with your reply? Don't try to score marks by saying 'you guys are so boring'. Don't try to give yourself an 'ego' (your word) that everyone is supposed to admire by talking about others having egos. It's like a kid in the playground that can't stand it if others are talking about something they don't feel able to talk about.

yep, and sometimes, I am no fun. sorry about that. :)

it's not sometimes, it's all the f**king time.

but don't worry about it, this is a common fault with fundamental christians. they spend that much time wanking over the bible and trying to figure out how they can get to heaven in the next life, they forget to enjoy this life !!

My eternal life was taken care of 30 years ago. That cannot be changed. I don't have to worry about heaven in the next life; that's a done deal, 30 years ago. You seem to have so many misconcenptions about Christians, one of them being that we have to keep doing something to impress God. We CANNOT impress God (nor can you). Jesus Christ is my ticket and He purchased that ticket for me.

And my life right now is pretty good, as it has been for the most part of the past 30 years.

Why would you doubt that Buddha existed? I don't think anyone doubts that he was a religious teacher. If memory serves, he taught all over Asia for 50-60 years? I am more asking than stating. It seems like he covered more ground on his own than any other religious teacher that I am aware of.

The Buddha's historical existence is generally undisputed, though the exact details of his life are disputed (for reasons that are similar to the life of jesus, though it's not quite the same situation). According to tradition, he taught for forty years. He didn't teach throughout Asia, but only in Northern India, mainly in the modern Indian state of Bihar. However, later traditions in non-Indian countries asserted the idea that he magically visited other countries too (this idea probably arose in order to authorise their particular traditions).

I appreciate that. I had thought he covered a greater area than just northern India...but then, I obviously don't know. I always wanted to take a comparative religion course, but that wasn't offered when my schedule freed up, so I ended up taking some oddball course like Christian Mysticism; on the other hand, I took a couple semesters of Jewish history, and that was fascinating. Both courses were taught by rabbis and I made the one rabbi smile when I told him, "I understand if you can get two rabbis to agree on one thing at one time, Messiah will come."

A true story. Really

A priest, baptist minister, and a rabbi would get together two or three times a week for coffee and to talk "shop." One day someone made the comment that preaching to people isn't really that hard. A real challenge would be to preach to a bear. Well, one thing led to another and before it was over they decided to do a seven-day experiment. They would all go out into the woods, find a bear and preach to it.

Seven days later and they're all together to discuss the experience.

Rev. O'Flannery, who has his arm in a sling, is on crutches and has various bandages goes first.

"Wellll," he says in a fine Irish brogue, "Ey wint oot into th' wooods to fynd me a bearr. Oond when Ey fund him Ey began to read to him from the Baltimorre Chatecism. Welll, thet bearr wanted naught to do wi' me und begun to slap me aboot. So I quick grrabbed me holy water and, THE SAINTS BE PRAISED, he became as gintle as a lamb. The bishop is cooming oot next wik to give him fierst communion und confierrmation."

Rev. Billy Bob speaks next. He's in a wheel chair, with an arm and both legs in casts and an I.V. drip. In his best fire and brimstone oratory he proclaims,

"WELL brothers ... you KNOW that we don't sprinkle ... WE DUNK! I went out and I FOUND me a bear. And then I began to read to him from God's HOOOOLY WORD! But that bear wanted nothing to do with me. I SAY NO! He wanted NOTHING to do with me. So I took HOOOLD of him and we began to rassle. We rassled down one hill, UP another and DOWN another until we come to a crick. So'se I quick DUNK him and BAPTIZE his hairy soul. An' jus like you you sez, he wuz gentle as a lamb. We spent the rest of the week in fellowship, feasting on God's HOOOOLY word."

They both look down at the rabbi who's laying in a hospital bed. He's in a body cast and traction with IV's and monitors running in and out of him. The rabbi looks up and says,

"Oy! You don't know what tough is until you try to circumcise one of those creatures."

There have been comical statements made during the course of this topic etc, etc.

To be perfectly serious, scuts, you should retreat to your closet. I think with all groups people look at the aspect of "attraction rather than promotion", personally I think you have done a very good job of giving TF members quite a distorted idea of what a "Christian" is, be it fundamentalist or not.

This is not aimed as an attack and I do not claim to be any kind of expert in Christianity so I will keep this simple. From reading through the 20+ pages of this forum I have not seen anyone positively react to anything that you have posted, it seems you have given people a look at how you think things should be communicated regarding belief in God.

For me, I have not read anything in what you have posted that would attract me in any way, shape or form to become a christian, in my experience (which is limited) quoting biblical passages generally pushes people away from God and the Church.

It is a very personal thing, one passage in the bible I do like and I will quote (hope it does not seem too heavy) is from Matthew, basically says if we are good to others and do not shout about it then we will get what we deserve, and when we pray, do not pray in public, no need to shout about it, just take refuge in your own room and pray quietly.

Complicating the basics with biblical babble just drives people away, practical application of Christian teachings are what attract people......

Scasfut, show some humility......

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.2 Therefore when thou doest [thine] alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites [are]: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Really? So, if tomorrow you go out and murder an innocent person or people, or rape a woman or molest a child, Jesus Christ won't cancel your ticket or deny you access to heaven because it's a done deal?

I don't think Jesus is such a sucker that he would make a deal like that.

Dream on, scutty.

ITS THE HOLIDAY PERIOD

god is on vacation!

GIMME A BREAK!

this thread is funny as hell if only cause people keep responding to a lunatic "christian" fanatic.

At least he is not blowing people up mind you, but in all honesty what kind of a nut comes out with the bible bashing crap that we have all witnessed here. sure he has the right to spout utter nonsense like the next man but pages upon pages? It has just been a waste of his energy and time.

A well worn phrase I can think of was never more apt

GET A LIFE!

eagle, are you sure that you don't want to go to the muslim version of heaven? you get about 62,000 virgins all to yourself. now that would be a party. :D

but knowing your luck and mine, it would probably turn out that the virgins are boys.

Exactly, now you are beginning to get a better understanding of what is going on. I am saved not based upon what I do, but based upon what Jesus Christ did on the cross. I can give you a lot of Scripture on that, if you would like.

The attributes which you mentioned before, His kindness, mercy, love, etc. are all true and accurate. But God also demands righteousness and justice...I cannot deliver that. But Jesus Christ did. Jesus Christ led a perfect life and He took on Himself the penalty for everything wrong that I have done and everything wrong that I will do. For you too.

Now, you may see this as a license to sin...and some people take it that way who believe. But there is a change that takes place when you believe in Jesus Christ...God becomes your father, and sin is punished. One thing that many people don't get is, God does not necessarily punish sins that unbelievers commit. He's got no dog in that fight, so to speak.
