scutfargus
If you believe, there is a god, if you don't, there isn't. It's that simple. Yes, and if I believe there is an England, it exists; and if I don't then it doesn't? There is such a thing as objective reality. Some things are true, whether you choose to believe them or not. Obviously, not believing there is a God means you might lead your life as though He does not exist; but that does not mean He doesn't exist. ...what have England to do with GOD???? gheeezzzz And if you read the entire post, you would see my point is, there is objective truth. Not everything is simply an opinion.

scutfargus
Rev 13:1?18: It will be helpful to keep in mind, this was John a man of the 1st century, making observations of what is occurring in the 21st (or later) century. Therefore, his vocabulary is going to be inadequate to describe what he sees. And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea. He had 10 horns and seven heads. On his horns were 10 diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names. The 10 horns are 10 different kingdoms and the seven heads are probably 7 leaders from those kingdoms?the beast may control 3 of these kingdoms. He will have the support of various religious leaders?these are the blasphemous names. The beast I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like a bear's, and his mouth was like a lion's mouth. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. The dragon is Satan, from Rev. 12:9. The beast (this is not Satan) will appear suddenly (with great speed), and he will have great strength and he will be extremely vicious. Satan will give great authority to this man (it is Satan's world; he has the ability to do so). One of his heads appeared to be fatally wounded, but his fatal wound was healed. The whole earth was amazed and followed the beast. There will be an assassination attempt or he will appear to die in war; and he will be revived?and this will occur in a very short amount of time. This will be a head wound and it is possible that real brain activity will appear to cease. They worshiped the dragon because he gave authority to the beast. And they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to wage war against him?" A mouth was given to him to speak boasts and blasphemies. He was also given authority to act for 42 months. The Tribulation will last for 7 years. This will be the first half of the Tribulation. People will view the beast as being unstoppable, as he essentially comes back from the dead. This will be a counterfeit resurrection. He began to speak blasphemies against God: to blaspheme His name and His dwelling--those who dwell in heaven. And he was permitted to wage war against the saints and to conquer them. It should be obvious from this thread here that people do not like fundamentalist Christians nor do they like their God, Jesus Christ (although, many people like the make-believe Jesus that they have patterned after themselves). The beast will be glorified for warring against God and those who believe in Jesus Christ. We have seen in several revolutions around the world where those who do not fit in or do go along with the program are eliminated for the betterment of the whole. He was also given authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation. Many of you desire a one-world government, and this is what you will have. All those who live on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name was not written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slaughtered. This world leader will be extremely popular. If you are alive at this time, you will think he is fantastic. The Lamb who was slaughtered is Jesus Christ. If anyone has an ear, he should listen: If anyone is destined for captivity, into captivity he goes. If anyone is to be killed with a sword, with a sword he will be killed. Here is the endurance and the faith of the saints. There will be a number of believers who are killed or put into captivity. Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; he had two horns like a lamb, but he sounded like a dragon. The second beast, another world leader, will appear to be wonderful, like the lamb of God, but what he says will be from Satan. He exercises all the authority of the first beast on his behalf and compels the earth and those who live on it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed. He also performs great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth before people. He deceives those who live on the earth because of the signs that he is permitted to perform on behalf of the beast, telling those who live on the earth to make an image of the beast who had the sword wound yet lived. He will perform great signs and miracles, and many will put their faith in him because of these signs and miracles. He was permitted to give a spirit to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast could both speak and cause whoever would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. Could this be a clone? The image of the beast? Could this be his image on a tv screen, where there are cameras are watching? Obviously, the image of the beast can be seen and heard. Whereas, this made no sense in the 1st century, this makes more sense today. And he requires everyone--small and great, rich and poor, free and slave--to be given a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark: the beast's name or the number of his name. Here is wisdom: The one who has understanding must calculate the number of the beast, because it is the number of a man. His number is 666. At one time, this made very little sense. However, now, the idea of some sort of identification imprinted on us in some way which allows us access to our bank accounts is no longer the stuff of science fiction. The ID may be like a social security number, but 18 digits in length.

SgtPepper
I think it is worth knowing when someone is having a laugh. So own up now MR Jesus lover. This was all one big joke right? BTW there is a lot of evidence that indicates that jesus actually went to India and learnt most of his ideas from the teachings of Buddha and just transferred them over to his own ends which means he was a bit of of a fraud really. They are called the missing years I think as there is little or no record of what the guy was up to. I also reckon he shagged quite a few women in his time too as apparently he was very charming, good looking and spoke very well. Even then the rock star effect was enough to have lots of groupies. No doubt jesus had the x factor and he easilycould have been a star if he had been born a couple of thousand years later. what a pity eh? Jesus and the apostles? they could have been huge! Ah well w got John Lennon and the beatles instead, I gues John was right when he said that the Beatles had more relevance or meaning in the lives of people than jesus did in 1966. Would jsus have been good enough on his day to come up with the likes of Imagine? In fairness to good old jesus though he meant well and he did have some great one liners. A good memory and lots of nice ideas, even if he was a bit delusional towards th very end. The bible has some great fairytales too but like the koran is probably better used as toilet paper. Next thing we know we will be told that jesus never took a dump or had a pee everyday. I guess he must of **** marble and didnt have to shower himself naked like the rest of us [ok he had a bath instead]

cs3602001
Here ya go Scuts........Something the Jews would liek you to read: 1) JESUS DID NOT FULFILL THE MESSIANIC PROPHECIES What is the Messiah supposed to accomplish? The Bible says that he will: A. Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28). B. Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6). C. Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. As it says: "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4) D. Spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel, which will unite humanity as one. As it says: "God will be King over all the world -- on that day, God will be One and His Name will be One" (Zechariah 14:9). The historical fact is that Jesus fulfilled none of these messianic prophecies. Christians counter that Jesus will fulfill these in the Second Coming, but Jewish sources show that the Messiah will fulfill the prophecies outright, and no concept of a second coming exists. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) JESUS DID NOT EMBODY THE PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS OF MESSIAH A. MESSIAH AS PROPHET Jesus was not a prophet. Prophecy can only exist in Israel when the land is inhabited by a majority of world Jewry. During the time of Ezra (circa 300 BCE), when the majority of Jews refused to move from Babylon to Israel, prophecy ended upon the death of the last prophets -- Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi. Jesus appeared on the scene approximately 350 years after prophecy had ended. B. DESCENDENT OF DAVID The Messiah must be descended on his father's side from King David (see Genesis 49:10 and Isaiah 11:1). According to the Christian claim that Jesus was the product of a virgin birth, he had no father -- and thus could not have possibly fulfilled the messianic requirement of being descended on his father's side from King David! C. TORAH OBSERVANCE The Messiah will lead the Jewish people to full Torah observance. The Torah states that all mitzvot remain binding forever, and anyone coming to change the Torah is immediately identified as a false prophet. (Deut. 13:1-4) Throughout the New Testament, Jesus contradicts the Torah and states that its commandments are no longer applicable. For example, John 9:14 records that Jesus made a paste in violation of Shabbat, which caused the Pharisees to say (verse 16), "He does not observe Shabbat!" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) MISTRANSLATED VERSES "REFERRING" TO JESUS Biblical verses can only be understood by studying the original Hebrew text -- which reveals many discrepancies in the Christian translation. A. VIRGIN BIRTH The Christian idea of a virgin birth is derived from the verse in Isaiah 7:14 describing an "alma" as giving birth. The word "alma" has always meant a young woman, but Christian theologians came centuries later and translated it as "virgin." This accords Jesus' birth with the first century pagan idea of mortals being impregnated by gods. B. CRUCIFIXION The verse in Psalms 22:17 reads: "Like a lion, they are at my hands and feet." The Hebrew word ki-ari (like a lion) is grammatically similar to the word "gouged." Thus Christianity reads the verse as a reference to crucifixion: "They pierced my hands and feet." C. SUFFERING SERVANT Christianity claims that Isaiah chapter 53 refers to Jesus, as the "suffering servant." In actuality, Isaiah 53 directly follows the theme of chapter 52, describing the exile and redemption of the Jewish people. The prophecies are written in the singular form because the Jews ("Israel") are regarded as one unit. The Torah is filled with examples of the Jewish nation referred to with a singular pronoun. Ironically, Isaiah's prophecies of persecution refer in part to the 11th century when Jews were tortured and killed by Crusaders who acted in the name of Jesus. From where did these mistranslations stem? St. Gregory, 4th century Bishop of Nanianzus, wrote: "A little jargon is all that is necessary to impose on the people. The less they comprehend, the more they admire."
CiaranM
You are under the misconception that there is a natural affinity between God and man. There is not. What most people do here, is they make God in their own image and they worship that god. That is idolatry and self-worship. You see this again and again when someone says, "Well, this is what I think Jesus is like...." But there is no support for this in the Bible. Humility is, you recognize Who God is; you also recognize what a wretched person you are. That is true humility. You realize what Jesus has done on your behalf; you realize that you do not have the answers yourself and that Jesus has these answers. Just adopting society's standards, which today are humanism and relativism...that has nothing to do with humility. now see i thought god made man in his own image or did i miss something. also, no matter what u think much of what is written in the bible is open to interpretation, it is not to be taken literally. therefore, ppl r entitled to have their opinion of what jesus is/was like. and now u r giving english lessons as well ??
