I never knew there are dutch speaking flemish... i thought there were only belgian who spoke flemish and all dutch spoke dutch?? what part ur from in Holland? Flemish is Dutch, when it's spoken in a proper way (I mean not one of the many dialects. It only differs from Dutch by the accent and some words and sayings. Pretty much like American English and British English r different. So, Im not from Holland (BTW the right name is the Netherlands, Holland is just a part of it ) at all. In Belgium there r three communities (each with their own government): Dutch speaking, French speaking and the German speaking community. And u have 3 regions: Flanders, Walloon and Brussels. They also have a own government. Very confusing, it's even more complicated.

CMG_UK
My passport says I'm a British Citizen, but Thai paople always laugh when I say "Pom bpen kon Laos". Maybe thay joke about Laos people the way Europeans joke about Belgians. Not that I've got anything against Belgians, I lived there for a year and some of my favourite chocolates are Belgian. And their accent is as weird for us as ours is for them. Anyway it's not their language, it's OUR language ........ damned arrogant Dutch ppl . I live in Leuven, near Brussels, near the linquistic border in the centre of Belgium. BTW I didn't call myself Dutch, I said I'm a Dutch-speaking Belgian. It's not because a Canadian calls himself a French-speaking Canadian, that he's French. 8)
Amst_Man
As a Dutch guy i can say that yes we do sometimes make jokes about Belgians (Flemish part) just like they make jokes about us. The funny part is that in many language competitions (yes we have that lol), the Belgians (Flemish) are usually much better at it than the Dutch. But overall, we Dutch like Belgians much more that any other European person. Im not sure if the Belgians like us in the same way lol...
Amst_Man
I'm originally from New Zealand so that makes me a Kiwi. (New Zealander)New Zealand actually means New Holland or in Maori, Aotereroa - Land of the long white cloud. Yes, I speak English & Maori. Kia-ora Tenakoto Haeremae (and I can do the Haka as well) New Zealand: its named after a province in The Netherlands called Zeeland (sea land). Like many discovered countries by the Dutch, English, Spanish and Portugesel they named the newly discovered territores after existing cities and provinces.. Like in New York (before it was sold to England it was called New Amsterdam), there are parst of NY called after Dutch cities like Brooklyn = Breukelen.
