robbie36
Wednesday is D-day as far as the constitutional tribunal decision on whether to dissolve either/both TRT or the Democrats and the consequent 5 year bans for their party executives. Hopefully both parties are going to escape dissolution following the subtle intervention of HM King - this would pave the way for fresh elections in December. Anything else can only lead to trouble. And trouble, it seems, is what the junta is expecting - appointing a former assassin and the general responsible for the massacre at the Krue Se Mosque in 2004 as their chief security adviser. This article from the front page of today's IHT makes scary reading... http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/05/25/asia/thai.php

beej
Pallop is perhaps best known for his decision to raid the Krue Se mosque in southern Thailand in 2004!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great! looks like its going from the frying pan to the fire!
robbie36
Guess he's not going to be in next week's counter-coup then I never understand these counter-coup rumours - I mean who exactly is going to carry out this counter coup? Army against army?
robbie36
The Constitution Tribunal ruled Wednesday that the Democrat Party had not breached the MPs and Senatorial Election Act because the act had lapsed after the coup. Using the same logic I guess they will let TRT off the hook too. Great result. Beers all round.

robbie36
Four hours!! And they havent even finished with the Democrats yet. Interesting tactic - bore everyone to death.... Just as well that American idol has finished or everyone would have switched channels by now....
Ammy
The first part is just finished as they are having a break now before continue the second part of TRT... and without an idea whether the Democrats party is dissolved or not? The guys voice and look make me feel sleepy! Anyone? :?
sunsnow
Yeah, amazing messing up and inability. After all, just before they started with the democrats they changed the plans and announced was it 30 or 1 hour later time for the TRT thing. So, in the brink of starting their show and tell, they said one thing and then did another thing... Amazing Thailand The first part is just finished as they are having a break now before continue the second part of TRT... and without an idea whether the Democrats party is dissolved or not? The guys voice and look make me feel sleepy!Anyone? :? Tells something what they are cabable or not cabable of doing. ...if even Thai public has no idea what the solution was after 4 hours! Amazing Thailand Well, it was not "killed", Democrat party that is... " Democrat escapes party dissolution The Constitutional Tribunal rules on Wednesday that Democrat Party is not guilty of violating the election laws, so it is not subject to party dissolution. The Tribunal delivered the sentence after reading the verdict since 2pm. Senior Democrat party members who sit in the court room seemed to be relieved after the Tribunal read the final verdict." robbie36
I think TRT are in for a hard time tonight. The Constitution Tribunal ruled that a coup order, which bans party executives from holding political offices for five years if their party is dissolved, has retroactive effect. That means there is a fair chance that all the TRT execs (100 of them) will be banned.... wiping out 80% of the Thai political landscape. We will see... We will see... saw the bangkok post article from penang. the coupsters seem to be acting more, rather than less, coup-like---they banned basically everyone TRT. i'm absolutely certain that they don't give a **** what i think, but this can't be a good thing. i don't see any upside, really. if anyone does, please explain. that said, the one-party system seems to be working pretty well in the PRC.
