And the latest from the Master Race Games:

Female ushers at Olympic opening had to strip naked for measurements

Beijing - The 200 female guides who led each country's athletes onto the National Stadium during last week's opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games had to strip naked to qualify for the job, a local media report said Friday.

Thousands of young ladies from colleges and dance academies in Beijing competed for the chance to appear before a huge worldwide audience.

During the selection process, the women were required to strip so teachers judging whether they were qualified could measure their body proportions, The Beijing News said.

In an interview with one of the girls who competed for the high profile job, the 20-year-old college student Zhang Fan told the paper that the girls were put in a room and teachers measured them with a ruler.

No specifics were given but the measurements were called "bone measurements" which typically include measuring the width of shoulders and waists, length of waists and height.

The women had to be at least 1.66 metres tall, have a pretty face and possess youthful energy, the report said.

Zhang did not qualify but she was later selected to be one of the 400 cheerleaders on the stadium who were the longest performers during the three-and-a-half-hour long extravaganza on August 8.

Dressed in short white dresses, boots and caps, the women had to constantly dance and cheer, to create a good atmosphere and rouse the audience of 91,000 people at the stadium.

The 400 women also performed the smiling programme - in which they danced and opened umbrellas each with a smiling face on them.

For that three-minute performance, the women had to undergo half a year of training, rising every day at 5 am to get to the practice site by 6 am and returning to their school dormitory as late as 8 or 9 pm, Zhang said. Sometimes when the training starts at noon, the women would practice till 1 am or 2 am.

They practiced standing in a row at different positions on the stadium, and also rehearsed dance movements and the opening and closing of umbrellas - a simple task which each women had to practise doing for more than 1,000 times, the report said.

Zhang said she smiled so much during practice that her facial muscles stiffened, but she was glad to have been selected.

Details about how China put together the spectacular opening ceremony are slowly being revealed - including revelations that were controversial.

After the ceremony, organisers admitted that most of the fireworks display shown on television were actually not the fireworks set off that evening, but were recorded in advance.

They also said a girl whose song during the ceremony won wide praise did not actually appear in the stadium and her song was mimed by another girl who was considered more attractive to foreign audiences.

And on Friday, state media said the nearly 900 soldiers operating the huge scroll that formed the centrepiece of last week's show had to stay hidden under the structure for up to seven hours, wearing nappies because they were not allowed toilet breaks.

Almost one third of the world's population - a little over 2 billion people - watched the ceremony, according to the global market research company Nielsen on Thursday.//dpa

Well I for one think the little girl was amazing, the show was amazing, the sports have been amazing, the effort made by the Chinese to make this an amazing Olympic event has been..... AMAZING.

Does anyone actually think they haven't been "conned" at least a million times before? These are the same news channels that have adverts for milkshakes "GUARANTEED" to make you look like a supermodel in 4 weeks. Get real.

Anyone can be a critic and pick mistakes. It takes a Human being to see the GOOD work which has been done and the EFFORT made to make things happen.

I wouldn't piss on those media if they were on fire. The Olympics is about showing how we CAN and WILL IMPROVE in sport, relations and LIFE.

heinous in a government-sponsored event... but not that different from how many dance companies select dancers.

Half full or half empty... the choice is yours.

We live in a society of fakes, face-lifts and fraudsters. Not that I'm suggesting it's correct but it is what it is. I think that rightly or wrongly it shows a commitment to be the best from China that they have gone to these extraordinary lengths, perhaps overstepping the mark but nonetheless admirable.

I sat and watched and thoroughly enjoyed the whole event. I'm sure even you did too. Do you think that it would have been as spectacular for example if the fog had completely covered the stadium and no fireworks could be seen? Would that not have been headline news and a little embarrassing if unfortunate?

Proper preparation preventing poor performance and the organisers did a great job in my opinion. If anything they probably did too much and that in itself is worthy of some appreciation.

It's good that the little singer has some attention though. Wonderful star as was the girl on the show. They should both be proud.

Gee, here you are in one post denouncing fake commercial claims and blaming it on the news media (who don't make commercials). Then in the next you're celebrating fake firework displays (fog wasn't covering the stadium, by the way), cheating and manipulating children.

I guess we do live in a society of fraudsters.

Like, by cheating?

Nah..Loburt !!

call it cheating sounds too strong. What about '¼Ñ¡ªÕâÃÂ˹éÒ'

decorate the plate and forget about the taste ?

I felt quite sad for the little girl and maybe she doesnt feel it herself. It is true that we enjoy the Olympic for the sake of sports. But well, what has happened shows the whole wide world what China cares for as well.

I'd rather stick to Thai boxers then !!!!

I'm not talking about the singers, Nave. I'm talking about the athletes and the judging.

There has been a long history of cheating at the Olympics, from the US-USSR basketball game in 1972, to the drugged up East Germans, to Marion Jones, to the North Korean gymnast who was still losing her baby teeth (literally), to the Chinese swim team which had to give back its medals and was disqualified twice for illegal substances.

Not to mention the fact that the IOC, in selecting which cities to host the Games, has been massively corrupt.

There are and have been, of course, some marvelous athletes who have given their all, competed honestly and been an inspiration to all.

But the Olympics have been tainted and polluted by all the other dishonest stuff. It's a shame.
