Best Pound for Pound Fighter

All time, the consensus is, Sugar Ray Robinson.

Have to agree with Lo. Robinson by a mile and a bit, though an honourable nod to Marciano for being undefeated.

For now, Manny Pacquiao will probably beat Hatton. Hatton has had his day, but I think the best boxer around is Mayweather.

Tyson, for his height and weight just destroyed much bigger guys...!

Floyd Mayweather Juinior has proved he is class, but he isnt knocking people off their feet....

Del a hoya held belts at 4 different weight classes....

Put me down for a Hatton win, Hatton has never lost in his own weight class remember....!

Hatton has fought one world class boxer and got schooled ... he's now gonna fight his second !!

Tyson in his prime, no contest.

to say no contest shows a lack of knowledge of boxing !! many good judges don't even rate tyson as the best ever heavyweight !!

it's difficult if not impossible to compare fighters across different weights, never mind different eras ... but ali was a class act inside the ring even if he was a **** outside it !!

:Today...2009:the best stand up fighter is two time k1 champion...Thailands own...Buakaw Por Pramuk..............Evander Holyfield was a better boxer than Tyson........................

I would put my money on Yodsaenklai (fairtex) beating Buakaw, Yod has dominated Muay Thai for a while now and is still young. There is no contest in Muay Thai for Yod and when he decides to cross over to fight under different rules in the K1 he wins no problem. Only problem he had was against Andy Sawyer (K1 world champion at time) under K1 rules where Yod beat him good but didn't score for his high kicks to arms which led to him losing his 1st major competitive match. Under Muay Thai rules (elbows etc.) yod would have won hands down and Andy Sawyer is the champ of K1 :)

I'll go with Yodsaenklai

ali wasn't always a class act in the ring either. his fights against patterson and terrell showed he could be dark and sadistic.

still, ali in his prime probably would have beaten tyson in his.

tyson, in his prime, never faced an exceptional, let alone great, fighter. he was great, for sure, but not the greatest.

it's always hard to judge fighters from different eras as we tend to have bias towards guys we've seen boxing during our lifetime. my favourites ....

ali .... possibly greatest ever, but didn't know when to stop.

sugar ray leonard, hagler and hearns ..... some fantastic fights from 3 great champions.

benn, eubank and watson .... not quite at the same level as above, but still involved in some enthralling exciting fights !!

barry mcguigan ... little bit of irish bias here, but if he hadn't been made to fight in the blazing sun who knows what he might have acheived.

strange how some fighters come back stronger after a defeat, but others are never the same fighter after getting beaten. guess it may depend on how badly they get beaten up and how much it damages their confidence !!

and IF the pac-man can cope with the move up in weight, he's gonna hammer hatton !! but it is a big IF !!!

Now this is a good topic!! I love boxing.

I think that Sugar Ray Robinson in his prime was possibly the best ever.

But my favorite fighter is Muhammed Ali. To watch his fights when he was younger was to see a thing of beauty. The combination of speed and power and mobility in a man his size was amazing.

In my opinion, Tyson should never be mentioned in the same breath as Ali. I doubt that Tyson could survive Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Shavers, or heck maybe not even Leon Spinks. Tyson fought in a period when the heavyweight division was in shreds. No true competition. When someone finally stood up to him, Tyson folded like a tent.

Not sure if Hatton has a chance against Pacquiao. Hatton doesn't have much hand speed and needs to brawl to win. Mayweather proved that in the center of the ring Hatton is at a disadvantage. Pacquiao is VERY fast. If Hatton can't bully him, it could be over quickly. Regardless, it should be a very interesting fight.

i think hatton's only chance is that he's naturally bigger and heavier than pacquio, which MIGHT allow him to bully and boss manny around.

but i don't think he's good enough .... i reckon manny to knock him out around the 9th or 10th round. something similar to fairweather !!

HBO is showing segments from the training camp of both fighters. Floyd Mayweather Sr. is trying hard to work on Hatton's speed, but I think like most fighters, he will revert to his old habits once the fight starts.

I agree that the fight won't go the distance.

my thoughts exactly....great fighters and all so well matched...some magnificent fights...pound for pound though...shame Roy Jones Jnr never took on all comers...lacked heart maybe....Julio Cesar Chavez? - Won 104 Lost 5, 2 draws, 80 KO

surely the most over rated fighter of recent times has to be calazghe ..... now i know he retired 46-0 and defended his title loads of times, but he was WBO champion for about 9 or 10 years and didn't really fight any of the top guns until he fought a 42 year old hopkins and a shot RJJ.

and didn't fight for any of the other belts for about 9-10 years !!

then he slags off froch (who was a bit lucky, but very brave and whole hearted) who goes to the US and knocks out a top rated boxer in his very first defence. a boxer who had beaten hopkins TWICE before calazghe fought him !!!

No one gave Hatton any chance against Kostyzu...

Hatton has still never been beaten at his weight... Sometimes the lads cant handle the jump up in weight and i think the power and size difference is going to be to Hattons advantage - just like Hatton against Mayweather, agreed he got a boxing lesson and I think he is a better boxer for it now.. he needed brinign downa peg or two because he had gone stale...

No one has mentione Prince Naseem Hamed here? He was flamboyant plenty of KO's and undefeated for a long while but got nailed and never came back, never the greatest of all time but great for a moment.!

ill take a bet that Hatton wins by KO - any takes?????

There are only 2 boxers out there right now who are head and shoulders above the rest. #1 is Floyd Mayweather. I don't like his personality but there is no questioning his skills in the ring. He is the best fighter that I have seen in years. He toys with the opposition.#2 Manny Pacquiao 2006 fighter of the year.

Al lin all?

1) Ali- if he'd had a complete career, probably #1

2) Ray Robinson

3) Roy Jones, might have been higher if he'd fought anybody in his prime.

4) Joe Louis, probably the best ever if modern training and fighting against the best.

5) Marvelous Marvin Hagler. The dude was a beast!
