simply_oriental
Normally, we don't like to share stories this depressing: The AP reports that a New York man has been sentenced to prison for trying to hire someone to run down his ex-girlfriend, who he abused. But the AP also reports on a tidbit too bizarre not to pass along: Clyde Gardner's original murderous plan. His idea was to: Kill a bear. Then skin it. Then don the pelt and wait for his ex to take out her garbage. He'd then attack her, using the bear's claws to maul her to death. And, to ensure he got away scot-free, he'd also wear the bear's paws on his feet, thereby avoiding leaving any human footprints.Shockingly, he abandoned that plan. Unfortunately, his plotting didn't end there. The 57-year-old former demolition derby driver allegedly then asked a friend to kill his ex in a car crash, and gave the friend instructions on how to do it. As so often happens in these cases, the friend decided to go to the cops instead of running the woman down. Gardner was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison. http://www.newser.com/story/129855/man-concocts-worst-murder-scheme-ever.html?utm_medium=fark&utm_campaign=pop I am sure the polices nowadays are not stupid not to know what's going on..If he did i am sure he will left some evidences and he will catch soon or later anyway..And it's really stupid planed of this guy. FarangFarang
Maybe all the Nazis are not in So America? They relocated like rats from a sinking ship b4 the Nazi regime folded. Hate to think a few could of landed in Thailand. I don't think that is the case. I think it's more of an issue of being blind to things. For instance, Thailand's involvement in WWII was mostly with the Japanese. And since the Japanese were able to get Thailand to become an ally (after an 8 hour war) and later a puppet government of the Japanese it's not something that I would imagine gets a lot of coverage in Thai history books. However, the thing I find really interesting is how many contradictions there are in one story. In order for people to save face on Issue A they lie and thus lose face on Issue B. Everybody is sort of in a no-win situation. For instance, as K'Sanitsuda points out, for the teachers and school administrators to claim ignorance of the content of the celebration one can then assume that neither has control of the school since the children are able to hang Nazi swastikas from school buildings without the teachers or administrators knowing. Or For the teachers and administrators to claim that they did not know what the children were doing and that the children were unaware of how sensitive an issue it is means that the school did not properly educate the children on who Hitler was or the atrocities that he committed. And really, what is the lesson that the children will end up taking away from all of this? Lie. Lie to save your ass. Lie to save face. Lie, lie, lie. Any student who knows that the teachers saw them hanging a swastika banner or helped them gather materials for their costume will know that their teacher is lying when they say that they had no prior knowledge of the children's plans. This is the lesson that will be taught. So not only are the children robbed of an education in terms of the atrocities of Hitler but now they've learned that the best way to deal with an error is to tell a lie. FarangFarang
Disagree! I care about this case but what should we do? I am a Buddhism and i do care and so sorry for them deeply..no matter what's their religious if this story happened with your family or your social ..I don't think any one..i mean any one who have a good heart happy to saw to heard or to involved with this. I think what the author is saying is that Thais are not very empathetic as a society. Here in your country you have Muslims being killed in the South, 2500 people who disappeared or were killed in Thaksin's drug war, tens of thousands of Burmese, Cambodians, and Laotians who are treated like animals and illegally trafficked into Thailand to do the worst jobs, etc, etc. And is it the Thai people who are rising up and demanding for an end to these practices or is it foreign governments and groups like Amnesty International? Most Thais, like you do here, simply ask, "What can I do?" I'm sorry if that sounds like I'm putting the blame on you. I'm not. I'm blaming the lack of responsibility Thai people share. What can you do? You can say something. You can organize your friends and start spreading the word that these practices are unacceptable. You can demand better from your government. One of the lessons that should be taught about WWII and the Nazis is the quote from Martin Niemöller about how nobody said anything when the Nazis were rounding up their enemies and others they did not like: First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me. The lesson is that if you do not get up and speak out for others who are unable to speak for themselves, one day it may be you who is the one who cannot speak out and then who will speak out for you when you would not speak out to save others? In Thailand, I guess you could reword it: First they came for the Muslims, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Muslim. Then they came for the slave laborers, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a slave laborer. Then they came for the Amart, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't Amart. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me. This is why K'Sanitsuda draws a parallel between the red shirts and the Nazis (it doesn't hurt that this happened in a red shirt area like Chiang Mai). As long as people are unwilling to speak out for others it makes conquering all that much easier because people will not make a fuss until they come for them. P'Bill I don't think anyone will supplied the uniform ,the girls might very interested about Nazis and she did thing wrong by herself ..she's a teenager girl ,yes she guilty But i blamed her school most. Sorry, if my sarcasm was misunderstood. I don't blame the girl at all. I don't expert her to know better. I expect the school to know better. I expect her teachers to know better. I expect the school officials to know better. I expect her parents to know better. My question was how did she get the materials for the uniform. Military uniform, leather knee-high boots, etc. That's not something a school girl would have money to buy with her allowance for from doing part-time work. That's several thousand baht worth of materials. Someone purchased it for her. That's the person who should have told her it was wrong. If they saw the girls wore this costume why didn't they stop them then..this was so wrong and now Thailand have one more bad reputation. But it's an easy thing to remedy if Thailand can just pull it's head out of it's ass and just accept responsibility. Right now, instead of making sure this never, ever, ever happens again everyone is trying to save face. Nobody wants to admit that they're at fault so they want to kill this story quickly. I bet right now, there are school officials and teachers sitting around very angry that those stupid f'ing farangs won't just shut up. Why do they have to make problems for Thais? They aren't interested in changing the school curriculum to teach what the Nazis really did or to introduce more cultural awareness. All they care about is saving their asses. And that, again, was the point of K'Sanitsuda's message. Because empathy is: The capacity to recognize and, to some extent, share feelings (such as sadness or happiness) that are being experienced by another sapient or semi-sapient being. GoodKarma
Problem: Colonel Sanders and Kentucky Fried Chicken are already trademarked. Solution: Name your business Obama Fried Chicken and use the President's face instead.WTF? The image of President Barack Obama as Colonel Sanders advertising a fried chicken restaurant would immediately be flagged as unacceptably racist, but that seems to be exactly what has popped up in Beijing. The Daily Mail reports that “Obama Fried Chicken,†complete with the President in suspenders and bow tie and the slogan, “We’re so cool, aren’t we?†It is already bizarre enough (and probably some sort of copyright infringement, but that depends on what copyright laws in communist China are like) that this independent company decided the President of the United States would be their best spokesman, but it appears they aren’t alone in thinking Obama = infinite chicken profits. The actual KFC has used the President in Chinese commercials, too. Stramash
[h=1]Father’s photo of daughter in shopping centre sparks security dispute[/h]A man who took an adorable picture of his toddler in a Scottish shopping centre was questioned by police after the photo apparently fell foul of anti-terrorism laws. Photo: Chris White Staff at the busy shopping centre became suspicious after they spotted Chris White taking a photo on his phone of his 4-year-old daughter enjoying some ice cream at Braehead shopping centre, near Glasgow. According to Mr White, 45, a security guard ran over and threatened him - claiming that taking the photo of his own daughter Hazel was “illegal”. But Mr White maintained that his young daughter, who was crying in his arms, was the only one in the photo. Police were then called to the scene and threatened to confiscate his phone allegedly citing the Terrorism Act when Mr White – a local mental health worker - refused to delete the photos he had posted on Facebook moments before. However, under the Terrorism Act officers do not have the power to delete digital images or destroy film at any point during a search unless a court order has been granted. The police allowed him to keep the images and no further action was taken. The offended father launched a Facebook campaign to boycott the shopping centre soon after the drama unfolded on Friday at 4pm with thousands of people inundating the Facebook page with comments criticising the actions of the mall and the police. Outraged, Mr White said last night: “I wonder how many shoplifters got away while they were dealing with my act of ‘terrorism’. Surely thousands of people have taken pictures inside shopping centres.” Superintendent George Nedley of Strathclyde Police confirmed last week’s incident. “My officers attended and gave advice and no further action was taken by the police officers. I can confirm we have received a complaint regarding this incident and one of my officers has spoken to Mr White regarding this. “As a result, a full review of the circumstances surrounding the incident and the allegations made is underway.” In response to the matter, a spokesperson for Braehead said it wanted to “maintain a safe and enjoyable environment” for shoppers.
