Admin_2
One of my favorite baseball players from Boston was just informed that he tested positive for performance enhancing drugs back in 2003...not cool. His name is David Ortiz, and he helped Boston win the the 2004 championship, which I actually flew back to Boston to see. Another players was also suspended for 50 games after taking a "male fertility" drug that was on the list of banned substances. I don't know if it is the league getting too strict about what is or is not legal, or if it is these guys just making excuses (along with their doctor's making statements backing the excuses), but what is this like in other sports? It has become a huge deal in baseball over the past few years, and is hurting the game's image. I for one would love to see a *super league* where all players HAVE to take steroids. That would be an interesting sight! Rugby on roids...Boxing on roids...think of the possibilites! I'd definitely tune in. 8)
andon
I understand you Admin... everyone here in the Dominican Rep. were bitching about it when Manny was suspended, then some more for Alex, Sammy and even Miguel Tejada too... Now Big Papi is supposed to be in the same boat... Starting tomorrow morning I'm expecting the same stuff again, half of the people will support him other half will just say "I knew David Ortiz was into something". Back in December in the off season I flew from Santo Domingo to Miami and David was in the same flight, just 2 seats from me, which originally we would have been sitting partners, but I did change when an open window seat was available. Just imagine everyone getting in the plane "hey Big Papi, how's it going..." . Even in Miami, when walking to immigrations they always send some officers to meet passengers arriving from Latin America just to see if they have all their paperwork on hand, and I still remember the first officer when he met David they actually hug and stay there chatting for a while, seemed they knew each other as it was laughing and you know talking trash loud. Let's see what or who is next, but major league baseball was a time bomb, was not regulated in the past in terms of doping... so it should not surprise anyone until time goes by. Albert Pujols is said to be clean, in the newspaper today I read that he said he has always been clean of steroids and he even invites anyone to live with him for 3 months to see what he does, he would even pay the hotel. Everybody supporting him for the triple crown this year. Chris...

Most of the stories and opinions will begin to write off the 2004 and possibly the 2007 series wins by Boston. I know I'd be saying the same thing if it was those Yankees! lol. But not my Red Sox...they deserve every ring they win.
andon
Yep.. in the DR baseball is a big deal along with politics. When Pedro, Manny and Big Papi were together in Boston that was crazy down here, it seems that everyone that used to support the yankees changed teams. When they won the 2004 series after the 86 years, man that was more crazy. People even forgot that A. Pujols was in the Cardinals, they only wanted Boston to win after that incredible comeback against the yankees. The teams with more fans here are the yankees, boston, dodgers, st. louis and chicago cubs... even before all the big dominican players were around. Maybe when you visit America again you can stop by here and see the DR baseball league, you can think of the fans like in football in Europe, South America or Mexico, just crazy. Some big leaguers play here along with the future stars.

English_Bob
I've always thought we should allow ALL drugs and steroids in sports... I wanna see someone run 100 metres in 4 seconds. I wanna see someone jump half a mile. I wanna see a guy pumped up to the max sprinting down the track smashing hurdles with his fists rather than jumping over them. THAT'S entertainment. A super league of sorts. Anything goes as far as performance enhancing drugs, meds, plutonium, whatever. Jockeys could ride these beings around race tracks, boxing could be done in aquariums filled with sharks, etc... But yes, superhuman olympic sports would be awesome. Think of the possibilities!

I think we should allow cyborgs too. Ultimate Fighting for real!!! ....."Gotta watch that left hook, because it's made from steel and it's coated in poison." "Oooh look at that!! He just burnt out his opponent's eyes using a frickin' laser beam attached to his head!" And how about genetically altered sports? Wrestling against a guy with 2 big lobster claws and another guy with crocodile skin and cobra venom... I'd pay to watch that!
GoodKarma
I'm a big baseball fan..this news really sucks say it ain't so socks say it ain't so...... this steroids thing just keep popping up in just about all sports. I am surprised it doesn't affect golf..or does it. sports encourages extreme competition so you will of course always have someone trying to get the edge on the next person that's just human nature. believe it or not this isn't the end of the list of shame..unfortunately more and more baseball players will be exposed. a lot of fans really don't care one way or the other they just want to watch sports for the sheer entertainment of it. I'm not sure lifting the ban on performance enhancement drugs would even solve the situation. because you would always have the stigmata of a fan or sports writer saying.. he only hit those home runs because he was juiced it doesn't count. babe ruth didn't use enhancments ty cobb didn't use them etc. but if you really look at it from the point of view just because you are juiced, it still takes a lot of skill to hit 100 home runs a season no matter what enhancements you are on.. the juice doesn't give you the skill you still have to hit the home runs... some players no matter how hard they try genetically would not be able to produce great muscle mass..and so what if that a person wants to shorten their life by 20 years and fry their liver who cares right? but what about those athletes that want to perform naturally but to be competitive they are forced to take them. that last statement was the tricky one.....the league actually has clear cut rules that bans them and players knowing the consequences are still using them not thinking they will get caught that part really blows me away.. so, where do you draw the line and why wouldn't proteins , vitamins, amino acids, caffeine, red bulls also be considered enhancements to performance or a dozen eggs for that fact...geez sorry that I don't have an answer whether I am for them or not..I suppose im on the fence on this one.. R.Win
Not that I give 2 darns about baseball OR cycling but everyone has been bitching about this year's le tour de France being so boring, the lack of doping might have had its share in that. If you ask me they should've quit that sport long ago since it's so messed up because of the drugs. ...baseball too but not because of the drugs. English Bob mentioned something that might actually be fun but it shouldn't be in current sport because the word sport would have to be replaced by the word cheat or something. Some new leagues that do allow doping etc. might be fun but it should be choice, you either compete like a man the way it's been done for ages or you compete in a freak league with other people who aren't real athletes. At the end of the season you'll get freak vs. man playoffs.
