AAAum
you might have heard.... "working smart... not hard" so the question popped up again... how to work smart... you might be able to manage your work/ reponsibility well... but, unfortunately, the process, procedure, people, limited resources or even luck might mess you around... i'd rather think... working hard... almost everything would end up on you... but working smart... you can start/manage almost everything... active and passive, right? somehow, begining to work smart would cost you (your time/resources/ sweat or even tears) at the begining... but it's worth after... nice try, huh?
luckyphil247
Find some common ground with your boss. Some interest or hobby that you both share, after that it's quite easy. Your boss will associate something they enjoy doing with YOU and vice versa. A good employee, isn't necessarily someone that is a fantastic worker, rather it's someone who blends well within the whole work group and is well liked by the boss

I was told: "You need to prioritize your tasks and if it gets out of hand you should learn to ask for helps" And Having the proper tools like office software & hardware to complete you task assignments would help tremendously. pandorea
I really work damn hard lately... i think it's over load now..So that question pop up on my head... Any idea? Good question, Nong 1. I have another question, what is "good employee"? Is it the person who works long hour? You're working with something creative, maybe working long hours don't help much as the stress and tiredness will get you and you can't be as productive as you wanted to be. As AAAum says, work smart, not hard. Find balance in your works and find the way how to present yourself to the boss, that might help.
funky_house
Sometimes you have to find a way to say no. Without alienating your boss of course.
Nave
I really work damn hard lately... i think it's over load now..So that question pop up on my head... Any idea? 'Prioritize and delegate' are the two verbs for this situation. As the boss and the subordinate at the very same time this is what I do. Take only 10 mins with my organizer each morning to prioritize what I have to do each day. I rank them from 1-5..not more than that or else everything seems to be too important. My tip is getting all the not-so-important works done i.e. making a phone call, searching for information. Whatever I know my staff can do it then i delegate that to them. If I see that the person is qualified to do it instead of keeping it to myself I hand the job away. Then by 11 o'clock of each day I get to do only important job that no one can and I can invest my time in it. From time to time I will make the phone call or set the deadline to check with my team. Just to keep track of them and to see if they are doing alright...not to press them but to help them. I need to make sure that each day I'm available for them as well. And that is the same thing I do with my boss. I make sure that he is communicated of what is going on and what I'm doing so he knows if the work is getting delayed for a particular reason or if we are not working hard enough. And if something goes wrong he is the best person to ask for advice from tho he might yell Not to please my boss but to be useful and productive. I'm satisfied to know that I'm alive and not wasting my days
PM
For many employers good employee means top performer in their job for a cost that the company thinks is reasonable (which is sometimes considered as not reasonable at all by the employee!). Unfortunately some employers not only don't care on how many hours you have to put up each day to achieve top results but on top of that their top Mgt do not review from time to time their working processes to identify ways to improve productivity without asking their employees to work longer hours (for example through simplification and integration of working processes, through the implementation of some software...). So i hope your company will address shortly your issue before you explode. If not i am sure you have noticed that recently many companies have started recruiting again

Admin_2
Look at where your boss is being innefficient, and make some good changes that will make his life better. Never let him know that it was your idea, though...make him think he is a genius and you just kind of helped him a bit.

May be you say too much or not enough ? What is your "over" work ? - Too much information to deal with ? (phone calls, emails, letters ....) - Too many (short?) deadlines ? - too much "stressful" technology (new softwares....) - etc... may be some examples would be helpful instead of general ideas .
