pandorea
Who is your favorite comedian? mine are : Robin Williams : Eddie Izzard : and Graham Norton :
Stramash
the utterly brilliant Bill Hicks (who sadly died in 1994). I never tire of watching and completely cracking up at his act. The scumbag of the century, Denis Leary, shamelessly ripped off his act over and over again, and will one day die in abject pain and agony while the spirit of Bill looks on and laughs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX1CvW38cHA the very strange League of Gentlemen; some of the strangest imaginations ever and inventors of my wonderful alter ego Papa Lazarou (in this clip) the hilarious and utterly offensive Frankie Boyle; if there is a line of good taste that some comedians sail close to, Frankie takes a big running jump right over it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2G_01T-CHI And of course, the great Billy Connolly (roll on the Glasgow gig on 1/10!!) If you haven't seen him talking about getting a colonoscopy, watch this p.s Nicky; I know everyone has their own taste and Izzard and Williams are great choices, but Norton is NOT FUNNY!!! All his stuff is scripted; he is not really a comedian, merely a host. (sorry)
pandorea
I know that Norton is a host and somewhat an actor, he even once audition for a roll in Lord of the ring. But he is a comedian to me and I like him.

Crustyjuggler
Not really stand-up comedy but I've always enjoyed Steve Coogan in the various Alan Partridge shows. Notably the series where he stays in the travel tavern. An acquired taste.. You cringe as much as you laugh. Steve and a young Simon Peg.... ahhh ladyboys.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW4yAPpEwT0
Mark_CNJ
I like George Carlin, I would have put the link for "The Seven Words" but didn't know if it was against the policy because of the language so I figured I would put the link for "Airplane safety" which is pretty good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFW6NHbWX0E&feature=related

Hobbes
The funniest and most subversive campaigner and activist there is, Mark Thomas. The German equivalent as far as being subversive is concerned, Volker Pispers. Another vote to Iain's Frankie Boyle & Billy Connolly The hillariously deadpan Ruediger Hoffmann. Lastly someone with an observational angel only an Irish can have, Dylan Moran.
Xao
Richard Pryor without a doubt for me, he came about in a turbulent time and is still the funniest stand up comedian in my book.
petey
I second Richard Pryor. His "Mudbone" routines were amazing. and Bernie Mac

GoodKarma
Richard Pryor Lenny Bruce Dave Chapelle George Carlin Bill Cosby Eddie Murphy Steven Wright Rodney Dangerfield Robin Williams Don Rickles Andy Kaufman Jim Carrey Chris Rock Jerry Lewis Don Knox John Belushi Abbott and Costello Buster Keaton Laurel and Hardy Lucille Ball The Marx Brothers Red Foxx - very raw believe it or not. Monty Pythons Flying Circus - not a comedian but re-runs gave me lots of laughs. my list is not necessarily ranked in order

Stramash
John CleeseMichael Palin Ricky Gervais Larry David Dennis Leary Simon Pegg Mike Myers Bill Murray Probably more.. Gervais and Pegg both brilliant (3 hours of The Office on BBC2 now) But, I have to take severe umbrage at one of your choices. Dennis Leary is nothing more than a rip off of Bill Hicks; always has been and always will be, but with nowhere near the incise observation and wit that Bill had. The rip off is well documented and discussed, even to the point that one evening Leary sat and watched an early Hicks show at one comedy club, then got in a taxi to do his own show later at another club, where he reproduced Bill's act almost verbatim. If there is any justice in this world, Leary will die in great pain and very slowly with the guilt eating him away till his final moments... Timmy, if you have not seen any Hicks, I urge you to get the DVDs or even look at the many youtube clips and see Leary's comedy in its original, raw, undiluted format.
