Reports from Tehran families in recent days of receiving the bodies of relatives arrested at opposition rallies who later died from violent treatment in prison have fueled anger at the government.

Among the dead is Mohsen Rouhalamini, the son of a prominent conservative and adviser to presidential candidate Mohsen Rezai. His family said he died of cardiac arrest and bleeding in his lungs, and that his face had been smashed.

News of his death in prison last week spurred fury across political lines, prompting even some progovernment newspapers and lawmakers to charge the regime with excessive use of force and violence in crushing its opposition. Opposition leaders warned of a backlash and urged the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to reverse its actions.

"People will not forgive these acts. How could it be possible that someone goes into a prison, then his body comes out?" opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi said Monday in a meeting with teachers.

Some of the families say they are speaking out despite being warned against speaking to the media and holding funerals and memorial services. On receiving the bodies, they say, they were told to sign consent forms that named the cause of death as meningitis, flu or bacterial infection.

Sounds like Iran learned well from the good old USSR...but hey, they get free University education.

Ah, the good old days of the Soviet Union. How we all long for them. Everyone went to University for free. Everyone had a full belly. Truth was universal and brotherly love. Big Brother loved us all.

thought about calling this thread "Lackadaisical Liberals." this should be an act that should have libs in outrage. human rights being denied. torture prisons. political prisoners.

should at least be a little bit of that faux outrage...funny, though, haven't heard a peep. damn. can't even muster a bit of faux outrage. what is the world coming too...?

I guess since it doesn't involve the US government or specifically a Republican, it's ok.

And what about this is not true. Take out the labels.

People should be outraged. Yet, they are not.

Human rights are being denied.

Evin Prison has been active since the mullahs liberated it and re-hired the Savak underlings to torture for the "Republic."

And I'm sure it's not the only "Abu Ghraib" in Iran. And it's exponentially worse than any allegation that was ever made about AG.

But let's not discuss that.

let's discuss and compare it to guys serving 3-6 months in prison for smoking marijuana.

It's all in how you take it. It's all in how honest one is with oneself.

Way to take a thread about a serious subject and turn it into an attack weapon or try

OK. I joke about the liberal thing.

And here is another example of what I'm talking about with you and those of similar ideology.

The "Republican Retards" thread.

You voiced no complaint about that.

Why, because it was posted by someone with similar ideology as you and you agree that Republicans are retarded."

Yes, this could be a serious discussion and it merits some seriousness. But none of you guys would ever seriously discuss it.

Why?

A few reasons.

1. There is no Republican President in the US right now for you to villify. So he can't be accused of doing nothing in the face of obvious human rights violations by the Irani regime. Now, if you could twist this somehow and blame Bush, I'm sure that it would be discussed in detail.

2. The villain is not a Republican. It's an Islamic government. Equally taboo here. One mustn't cast stones against the Muslim or one may have to admit that they actually ARE more dangerous than Chrisitanity/Christians.

3. The President is a Democrat/Liberal/Leftist and it's Barack Hussein Obama. Bringing this to the light only makes him look weak and ineffective. As he campaigned on the idea and many bought into the idea that by merely electing a President who looked like "them" and had a name like "them" would instantly bring "them" all to the table.

4. Now, "they" are bowing down to the wisdom of President Obama any more than "they" did under Bush.

In my opinion, "they" are becoming more aggressive and more likely to tell the world to shove it. Why because "they" believe that the US isn't going to do anything no matter what course "they" take. I think that "they" are right. "They" already know that Europe is ineffectual and easy to threaten off. Now "they" are beginning to test Obama. When "they" figure out that Obama and the Libs will do nothing, "they" will start planning again. Of course, this is my opinion.

It matters not because most of the Left minded persons on this website will not openly discuss the mistakes of the left.

But you will discuss things that matter little such as "retarded Republicans."

I think it's hilarious.

You've done exactly what Neo does. You complain when someone ideologically unaligned does the exact same thing that one of your more ideologically aligned brothers does.

Now, one of you guys are going to tell me to stop whining or whinging. As if that covers it all. Oh no...

Want to invade Iran next do we now Moobs?

Is it next on your list?

Maybe wait till you've failed in Afghanistan before moving on to f*ck up the next country.

No, I don't want to invade Iran.

I'd like to see the people there throw off the shackles of Islamic extremism that you seem to support with your every post concerning Islam.

I'd like to see the women and children there free to express themselves in the exact same manner that you and I are free to express ourselves. I'd like to see the women free to let their hair blown by the wind.

I'd like to see Islamic despotism placed in the same past as communist totalitariansim and the wretched monarchies of Europe.

That's what I'd like to see.

What you seem to want is for the spread of Islamic terror throughout more of the Middle East.

It's beyond comprehension.

The world is all sorts of messed up. There is no place that we can say: "This is the best example of utopia, democracy. perfect socio-economic system". Every nation is not without flaws. Nothing really changes in endlessly discussing the evils of that particular nation or the other.

I can only be thankful that I don't live in such a regime.

I am not sure why you make a point to throw this provocative statements out there in the addition to the facts. I really appreciate a wider look on the current events in the world, but you make everything so personal and touching. Why the drama?

I guess discussing human atrocities across the world takes the attention away from your own problems. I assume you write this cause you are bored, otherwise than that you sound like a broken record. You have no formal knowledge of USSR since you never went there (or probably Iran for that matter... ), yet you continue to talk propaganda.

Thank you for updating me on the human violations of that particular region of the world. But hold the hype.

PS I cant wait to see what you have to say when you move to Thailand.

Eagle,

no complaints about beej. He's would have posted that same anti-American drivel no matter my second post or my title.

No words of wisdom for beej?

Come now. Let's spread the wealth.

Or is it as I say, you only care to whisper those sweet nothing into the ears of those who are not wholly aligned in Liberalism as are you? In this, you differ little from Neo and LG.

digicat, I'm sorry to tell you this. But you have no formal knowledge of the USSR as it was gone in all but name by the time that you were 8 or 9 years old.

You see it through the idyllic eyes of a child. I see it through the eyes of men twice your senior.

You defend the USSR as if it were some great thing from the past.

Iran. Are you really defending Iran? Have you ever talked to anyone from Iran. Have you ever read a book about Iran. Do you know anything about Evin prison on the outskirts of Teheran? Do you know anything about the Iran-Iraq War?

Have you read anything about the place?

Read Lipstick Jihad or any number of books written by people who have fled Iran. They are numerous.

I would have to disagree with you. There are better forms of government out there. America and Europe have governments superior to any other. Even taking into account their failings.

Bullshit. The anti-American foaming at the mouth has always been there. Since the very beginning. Have you ever read a history book?

Anti-Americanism was spread first by the monarchies of Europe as a failsafe against their losing their Royal privileges.

I'm not saying that we have not earned much of the enmity that is directed against us. But to blame it all on one President is ignorant. True and completely ignorant.

Ahmadinejad is even talking trash about your beloved, the dear leader Obama.

I just think that Islam on a whole isn't bad, the thousands of Muslims I've met across the world from Iran-Indonesia-Malaysia-Palestine-Europe-Africa, all seem as happy as the next person, its just stomach churning to have to listen to your non stop YES NON STOP bashing of the Islamic faith which you do under the so called guise of Islamic extremism.

Its boring, YES really ******* boring.

Listening to your **** about how America is saving the world and making it a better place when in fact it carries on ******* **** up on a daily basis is boring.

The sooner we leave Iraq/Afghanistan the better.

Please stop boring us with your boring anti Islam threads, please stop boring us with your anti Liberal thinking threads, please stop boring us with your political threads.

Until America can sort itself out within its own boarders, educate its population, fix its health care, work out why its prisons are full, and look after each other, I'll not listen to your drivel Moobsie, because the simple fact is, your home land is f**ked and this being a fact, gives you little room for standing up there on your high and mighty banana box shouting about how the rest of the world is such a bad place and needs to change.

well believe it or not that's what i reckon most ppl want .... however, i believe the change has to come from within the country. it's just NOT going to work the west trying to force their ideology onto other countries.

better education and improved living standards r the key !!! but it ain't gonna be easy ... or quick !!!

let me sum it up for you.

what is the point of talking about this? what are you trying to prove? do you propose change? or is this just an excuse to call everyone an ignorant idiot?

in regards to USSR... if I was to ask about America... whose opinion would you hold more valid

A 10 year old child who lives there

or on old Iranian man who thrives on propaganda?

Had there been the level of intelligence and analysts etc there were pre Clinton, there probably would not have been all the flawed bs on WMDs etc.

I mean, what the f*ck?

You post something that, for once, right and left probably could agree on, and that (given you say you are opposed to military intervention in Iran) there could have been some intelligent debate on but you turn it into another you vs them furore.

After your little spat with DC in another thread, you just HAD to slip in another attack on the USSR.

Then it's another go at the goddamn liberals.

Then it's another go at the goddamn Europeans.

Then it's another go at goddamn anyone who disagrees with you.

Do you know what would happen if I was playing a gig and just kept putting the needle back to the beginning of the same record?

a) bottles would be thrown

B) the gig would be empty very quickly

Well you are turning into the internet equivalent of the 'one tune dj'

You are like the boy who cried 'wolf', except in this case it is better being the boy who cried 'liberal'.

You are so used to posting provocative statements that even when you post something of interest you have to add the soupcon of controversy.

You really need to get hold of some of that prime Afghani black, roll a fat one and chill the f*ck out!!!!

They may be, but that's not one of them.

Lipstick Jihad was written by an American.

USSR 1

USA 0

or

or

or

or any number of books written by people who have fled Iran.

Lipstick Jihad was written by an Irani-American Journalist who went to live in Teheran as a foreign correspondent.

There are several books written by persons who have fled Iran.

hence the use of the word "or"

Have you read the book?

True. But sometimes, I wonder why the portion of the population who is so die hard in defense of Hamas against the terror that is Israel completely ignores the same abuses taking places when it is Arab on Arab or Muslim on Muslim or in this case Persian on Persian.

Israel kills an Arab/Muslim. Immediate outcry.

Any Arab/Muslim country kills a Arab/Muslim or any of their minorities and this same community of folks completely ignores it.

Can you tell me that this is not true?

Hell, beej will dig up any number of articles that puts America in bad light. But he'll spare not a minute to entertain the thought of similar reprehensible behavior in the world of Islam.

So I do what I do.

Perhaps, I should not.

Either way, if I had posted that with no comment, the immediate reply would have been a link from beej of some "atrocity" that was committed by America. And the conversation would have went that way as anti-Americanism is the favored topic of most of the political minded folks on TF. It is their life blood.
