Jet lag

From the L.O.S. to U.S.A. what a journy. I was hoping to at least maybe have someone nice seated next to me (preferrably cute female) instead an overweight Japanese man who snored the whole trip. Thank goodness for headphones. As usual I will suffer from post vacation blues and jet lag for about one week. I arrived yesterday, opened up all my mail (mostly bills), returned a few phone calls, did laundry, went grocery shopping, unpacked and tried to sleep at 1230 am. Tossed and turned until 5am an

Last night in Bangkok

As I sit here alone at Coffee World this wet and (alcohol free) evening I suppose I'm ready to go home but yet not quite ready to leave Thailand. The last night is always the toughest. The only consolation I have is I know I shall return . Its been a good three weeks. I was able to see some old friends as well a make a few new friends. Unfortunately timing and other circumstances restricted me from seeing everyone I wanted too. Or maybe they just didn't want to see me. I have a verrry long journ

Hi from Bangkok

Hi TF's! I am now enjoying my stay in L.O.S (Land of Smiles) Returning here feels like returning home at times. Its been a great trip thus far. I have seen some old friends, visited with a couple of Thailand Friends, and made a few new friends. My routine here is very similar to America. CAlifornia Fitness center each day, coffee throughout the day and movies. I have seen three movies thus far- Mean Girls (funnier than I expected) I,Robot (not as good as I expected) and THe Letter (The saddest

Anniversary

Greetings everyone! I just returned from Northern CAlifornia (3 hour plane ride from the south) where I helped my mom and dad celebrate 50 years of marriage. It was quite nice, all our family was there and many of there friends (all in their seventies) Wow, I can't imagine "50" years. Of course at my age it would truely be a milestone because I'd more than likely be in my 90's. I guess their recipe for success was based upon patience (mom not dad), understanding (mom not dad), loyalty (both mom

Dodgeball

Greetings! Well I am ashamed to say it but I did go see "Dodgeball". After a verrrry long week with many different issues I just wanted to watch a mindless comedy. It was mindless, yet not much of a comedy. Maybe I was expecting too much. I also saw "Supersize it", a documentary where a guy eats McDonalds for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 30 days. It was astonishing to see how quickly ones health can be negatively impacted in such a short time. THe movie was funny at times but talked about Ame

I've been busy with 3 night classes for the last 2 months with my finals being last week, plus my day job. I was way behind in TF's and movies so now I'll try an catch up! This past weekend i saw 3 movies- Shrek 2 (the original was better), Stepford Wives (very bizaar ending, kind of lame) and last night i saw a Korean film called Oasis. This is a Unique film where a"not very bright" man r

Gods work?

A Vietnamese Nun from my church recently got a "chickenshit" ticket from a motor cop. When she plead not guilty and the judge gave are a date to come back to court and have a trial with the cop present. She came to court yesterday and was reading her Bible waiting to fight her case. When her name was called the case was dismissed because the cop did not show up. He was recovering from a recent knee surgery:) Praise the Lord:)

It got better

Yesterday morning was "a mess", but it did get better. I finished my day with a swim in the pool, jacuzzi, annnnd a bowl of ice cream!

Hope it gets better

My alarm didn't wake me up at 5am, so I started my morning jog later around 5:15, which resulted in me missing a very important phone call around 5:30, when I came back and realized I had missed the call I began to make my morning pot of coffee. Being distracted because of the missed call, I forgot to put the coffee grounds into the coffee filter. This resulted in a nice pot of hot water waiting for me after I showered. Its gotta get better. Boy, I wish I were in Bangkok!!!!!!

Grammar class

Well, my journey to a second career may be a little more difficult than I realized. I emailed my friend about my classes in Theory and Grammer, and she quickly brought it to my attention I had spelled gamm"a"r wrong (oops). I think I'll be focusing on "Conversational English", no spelling, no grammar, speaking "only".Please for give any spelling or grammatical errors in the above email.

Songkran Festival

My roommate just arrived last night after a week in Thailand and he shared with me his experience of the Songkran festival. I've heard about it from many THai people but the first time to hear it from a buddy. It truely sounds "awesome"! He was in BK for 1 day then a small village for a few days. He described it as a "lovefest" where everyone is having fun yet being kind and often wishing each other good luck after "soaking" them with water. I can't even imagine such an event in Southern Caiforn

Been awhile

Hi TF's its been awhile! Things here (california) are good. This past week I was a "leader" at a youth retreat in the mountains for 3 days. There were about 100 kids. We were treated to a suprised "snow storm" for about 5 hours. It was truely beautiful yet annoying after a few hours, much like the kids on the retreat. The weekend before off to see a friend in MAdison Wisconsin. My friend studies there, beautiful city with a Thai population of about 400. Weekend before that another retreat with

Persian festival

Busy weekend, traffic school (10 hours on saturday), church sat. evening, retreat training sunday morning, "little siagon" for lunch on sun at noon, and Persian New year festival sunday afternoon. The festival is held every year at a park near my house, ususally attended by about 20,000 persian people from all over California. Quite interesting, in order to have goodluck the rest of the year, on this day they are suppose to spend the whole day outside with family and friends. It was was an inte

Movie review #2

"Blind Shaft" a Chinese movie with English sub-titles. An outstanding movie that shows the life of 2 workers in a Chinese coal mine. Very interesting to see since it was filmed in small villages and to see how people live. There is a twist to add some drama to the movie. The 2 guys will befriend a homeless person looking for work. They tell him they can get him a job at the coal mine but he must tell the boss he is their relative. After a few days the 2 guys kill the homeless person inside the s

Movie review #1

"Taking Lives" Starring Angelina Joline and Kiefer Sutherland. I walked out in 10 minutes and asked for my money back. Annoying opening credits, Terrible fake French Canadian Accents, said it was Montreal but was really Quebec City, and first appearance of Joline was her laying in a grave (where a murdered body was found) to understand the killer better. Lame, lame, lame so i walked, walked walked out of the theater and got my 320 baht back. Maybe I left so soon, but i doubt it! Delmar

taxes/school

The taxman was nice to me:) Should have enough money for "several" trips to Thailand this year. Of course I will have to take a bus to get there. My first day back to school went very well. THe campus is a beautiful campus right across the street from my home. It was a nice to feel the "vibe" of an academic setting. Much more positive than my professional setting which is often negative. It was kind of a long day though, 5am-11pm.Which will be followed by another long day today, tonight is 3 hou

Oh MY

Oh My! Another weekend over already!!! Oh well, I suppose that I'm just that much closer to my next trip to Thailand. I was emailing a fellow TF member and we were talking about the difference,if any, of raising a child in America or raising a child in Thailand. Maybe its my negative attitude towards my own home at times but Thailand seems like a safer place which also instills values such as respect, culture and tradition. She however seems to think some of those values may be lost in the next

Movie/music review

Hi TF's! Saturday mornings are great, no 5am alarms rudely awakening me in the middle of my dreams. Has anyone seen or heard of "Starsky and Hutch" yet. A movie based upon an TV cop show in the 1970ies. If not, save your baht!!!! A rental, maybe. Its a mindless comedy that was seldom funny. The soundtrack/music from the 70's was the best part. Speaking of music I'm now listening to a R&B singer named Maxwell sing "Brown Suger". An "awesome" song!!!!!! Anyone else know it? HAve a fun and safe

Travel advice

Hi TF's. I read Bobbies journal and it looks like he has booked a flight and will soon be in the LOS. Here is a little travel "tip". CANDY! Bring a box of chocolate candy and give it to the flight attendent who is serving you. Say something like "thanks in advance for your wonderful service". They are used to having to serve customers who are often rude, annoying or demanding. By doing this you have seperated yourself from the others and are likely to recieve "excellent service" for the remainder

Yesterday

Yesterday was a good day for the most part. The potluck (when everyone brings food) for lunch was a success. We had cornbeef, cabbage, shepards pie, deviled eggs, green jello, green cake, green soda, and Irish music. I ate waaaay to much and my trip to the gym was a struggle. Also yesterday I had to go "qualify" which means go to pistol range and practice shooting my weapon. Although I carry a gun every day and I am a good shot, I truely don't care for them. Oh well, the day when I no longer "hav

Happy S.P.D.

Happy Saint Paricks Day (march17th)! I Don't know if its a big celebration in THailand but in America its quite large. Its a day to Honor Irelands patron Saint "Patrick". Some citys have parades and most of the bars serve green beer. As a younger man I have done my fair share of acting silly on this day (a geen beer hangover is not good). Today we will have a potluck at work and everybody brings some type of Irish food and we'll listen to Irish Music. Since MAny of your days are ending i guess I

Dream

There I was, at Coffee World standing in a long line, waiting patiently. Finally, just as it was my time to give my order to the beautiful girl behind the counter. I said "a mocha frappe please". MY ALARM WENT OFF. Uggggggg. 5am already. Hopefully this isn't some indication how the rest of my day will be. Time to go make myself some "instant coffee":(

Great weekend

Hi TF's! This is my 3rd attempt to send this journal. I just found out that I only have a 20 minute window in which to write and when you only type about 3 words per minute thats not much:) ANyways I went to a 6 hour training course on Saturday for an upcomming Religious Retreat for high school kids. THe retreat is sponsored by the Catholic Church and the kids (about 100) are preparing to receive the SAcrament of Confirmation. Its held in the mountains and lasts for 3 days beginning April 2nd. T

Round of applause

At this point in time I would like to congratulate my good friend Amber who just finished her 10th exam after taking 23 units in one semester. Awesome job Amber!!! During my university years between the partys and other things I thought were important at the time (sex, drugs, rock&roll) I was luckey to finish 12 units a semester. Thank goodness TF wasn't around then or I probably never would of graduated. I do remember one thing an old college professor said during a lecture one day, he said "
