Rambo and movie critics.

When did we ever have need to have movie critics/reviews? Basically an opinion of some random person who has their own taste in films! If you scroll through half the reviews on movies, these critics have you will see a pattern in their reviews. Their reviews are directed by personal taste. BS!!

Second, movies are made to help the general public escape from reality for two hours. A movie is a place where life/reality can be manipulated to fit a story line to help a movie goer find escape. Why do we care so much if something is possible or not? or if it represents the way we feel something should or should not be portrayed? A movie is your chance to see someone else's vision and live in their mind.

Everyone sees the world differently so, Stallone's version of the war in Burma is how he feels it should be portrayed. Do we fault him for this? Would you not do the same? I guess my point is everyone is going to have different reviews on a movie because we all like different things. So why ruin it for others by slamming a movie? I say to the reviewers, Keep it to yourself....As if that's going to happen anytime soon.

Look, movie critics really serve no purpose. And never have. Just make people run to a movie or not when people should just go to arrive at their own opinion rather then letting another imperfect human decided for them whether they should see a movie or not.

Oh and by the way...Rambo was insane and that's MY opinion.

I don't agree. Movie critics are like, actually are, newspaper columnists. I tend to agree with Paul Krugman and not with Bill O'Reilly.

Over time, you figure out which critics you tend to agree with and which you don't. Then you can figure out which movies you should go see and which you shouldn't waste your time or money on.

There ARE bad movies, you know. And I appreciate being steered away from wasting my time and money on them.

Could say the same about many critics in any creative area, especially journalists in the music press whose tastes and attitudes can continually change according to the latest fashion.

i often work with PR people, critics, columnists etc.... they can be swayed, if the money is right and if theres a good angle and it keeps or increases readership etc.

"Second, movies are made to help the general public escape from reality for two hours."

no, movies, generally, are made to make money. moviemakers don't give a **** if you escape as long s you pay your money. if you'll pay me twelve bucks, i'll help you escape. if you want a message (and can't afford western union) and pay me your twelve bucks, i'll take you to "syriana." if you want to feel important and exceptionally clever, i'll take you to a french film where they talk too much.

"So why ruin it for others by slamming a movie? "

yet you're doing the same thing. why whine about it, D? coz nobody's payin' you for it? filmmakers LOVE being reviewed actually. it makes at least *some* people aware of the movie. given how many movies are spit out each year, anything tht puts you in the mix is worth the time of day. a small indie film doesn't even get RELEASED in new york without a NY Times review (even a bad one).

Movie critics push movies!! That's their business...........however, the best critic is by word of mouth, so don't give up "Rambo"...........however, someone on TF recommended "Cloverfield", didn't get to see it, but probably a waste of monies too?

agree with you on this definitely and on piant's question... either way have to think it was somewhat both. The movie was pretty kick ass and the character was pretty nuts!
