Thanks to the beautiful Mod 'SweetieBabie'.I thought I was not going to do it and I was too lazy to wait for the answer but once I found out that I was roped up, forced and raped by MSN to upgrade the new version I was upset.And after trying and trying over and over again and emotionally used and abused..hours after hours.. I still cannot get that freaking (a)fooking  new Windows Live yet.What a lie that we live ! And I do need it cuz my boss uses it. And my best friend and bla bla and often time we use it for conference call though we now have skype but some of us are too lazy to install it and being faithfully old headed using msn.When I tried to uninstall the current version to get a new version it took forever too !!! Damn !!! I need a guru !! and I'll give u a flash on cam and a free cup of coffee if you want to !!!! .........................................

There are alternatives; personally I use instan-t chat program and can chat with msn users, but I don't get all the functionality.

It's difficult to see what the exact problem is ja.

Can't you download the upgrade?

It's about 80mb so it does take a while to download.

Or can't you install it?

It also installs other things you might not want too, but as YamahaCrasher says, you must download it if you want to use MSN.

The store next door to my office is an Apple resellers... In a day there far more costumers that bring their macs with problems (hardware/software) than the one who buy a new one...

They are different machines, not better or worst... just different in my opinion

Unfortunately everyone has to "upgrade" to this...It is annoying.

But look on the bright side....we could be stuck with a mac.lol.

The reason I dont get a mac, is because my pcs work fine and do everything I need them to do. They dont crash, freeze, fail etc...since getting my new ones I havent suffered from one blue screen of death, the specs are better (for the price) and are easy to upgrade.

So Id rather get a PC for around £400 than get a Mac for £1200 that does the same thing.

I know the mac OS is better etc etc but not £800 pounds better.

I dont want to start a platform war...so this is all Im gonna say (unless something really irks me, but theres another forum for that,lol) , responses are welcome though.

i was forced to download the new version this morning too.....

what i did:

right click the old version, and open as administrator

go to http://download.live.com/messenger and click the download button....

takes some time, but its working now!

Well, I tried uinstalling everything msn related on my pc, to try ad get the old msn working again...but it wont let you sign in. So there must be some sort of ID that gets sent along with your log-in that tells the people who run tings what version you are using and therefore blocks you from siging in.

I eventually caved and just along with it.

As someone above said, it takes a while to get the "upgrade" installed and up and running, but once you do, youll be sweet.

It could be saying that you're not connected to the internet because your firewall isn't allowing the update program to connect ja.

I'm looking for an alternative download source for the full install rather than through the Main download site.

I don't think you look dumb at all ja. No one knows everything about everything. No one's above asking for help sometimes.Just saying this is a problem others have had and overcome.Computers are more of a hinderance than a help much of the time.

after system restored if it still doesnt work try to use CC clean to uninstall

I had same problem about msn had forced me to upgrade. I had to remove current msn version on my laptop and after long pain in an ass to download the new version Bingo! now its worked! Goodluck =)

Try using Trillian in the meantime.. it has msn, yahoo and ICQ (i think, not that anyone uses it anymore).
