Is it too cruel??

We just got new staff 2 months ago, Her behave is not so good while her work quality also not great as I expected.

She always asked permission to take leave although she have no right to do that since she is still in probation period. This happened time to time, but I think it was still fine.

Last Wednesday, I told her that other colleagues will take leave on Friday, only her who will come to work because she can't take leave now.  Of course, I also join her at work too.

Yes, she tried to ask if she can take leave too and once I said NO...she start to cried and screaming like a baby who can't get her toy. Unbelievable to see adult cring like that. What I did was just said "See you Friday" and walked back to my desk,

Yes, she came to office on Friday. But again she told me that she will leave in the afternoon!!! The reason of leaving is to see her mom at home!! She also told me that she already asked our GA for permission. Then I said, ok but finish the report before leave.

She came back to work about half an hour. Then walked to my desk and told me that she can't found the data to make the report. WTF!!  that data was made by herself and she lost it!

Indeed, I smile and said, mai pen rai. But please try to find it or make the new data.

I asked her to have lunch together but she denied it....As expected, I didn't see her in office... she already leaved office without any report on my desk.

What will you do if you are me??

.

.

.

Tomorrow, I will ask her to resign..Otherwise,  I will fired her! (although she is still in probation period)

Hope it's not too cruel. What do you think???

Good night everybody,

Instead, sit her down and show her your point dee kwa mai ka? It's important to give people a chance.

I'm not sure if you have directly spoken to her but that's my opinion.

See if she can take your comment of her performance in probation period professionally and try to improve it so she can stay in the company. Otherwise she should leave.

Good luck ka

You dont need to sack her, shes not up to the required standard and her contract should be terminated at the end of her probation period.................assuming she was told she was on a probation period when she started.

She's obviously not the person for the job, it happens.............

It's not cruel at all.

she's not 15 right?

she knows what she should be doing but did like she didn't know.

she gets paid.

she doesn't work much.

she is idiot. (for me)

she should be fired!

There are many people on the street who are looking for a job and really want to work for you.

My answer is" Not cruel at all". she deserves that.

You spelled out what you expected of her on Friday. She didn't do it, and gave you a lame excuse. On Her next day back to work, before she has a chance to start doing anything, call her into your office, and terminate her on the spot. Do not let her work then fire her at the end of the day, fire her as soon as she shows up.

Your "face" is important at this point with the rest of your employees. If they see her working that day, they will get the wrong impression, but if they see you terminating her on the spot, they will gain more respect for you as a true leader, concerned with the work environment, and what someone like her has on the moral of the rest of the employees that have had to do work that she was supposed to be doing. You did say she has taken days off in the past, so someone else had to do her work on those days.

Explain to her that she does not fit in with what is expected in the job that she has, and that she has made no effort to do her job correctly. Therefore you have no other choice than to ternimate her immediately. Immediately get any company ID that she has, and give her her last check of any pay that she has coming. You might have to come into work early to get this all prepared.

If you have anyone that acts as security at your job, have them escort her to her desk to get her things, without taking any company property, and then escort her off the property. This will give her no opportunity to cause trouble, or steal anything on her way out. It will also show the other employees that you did not put up with her actions, giving them the reasurance that you ARE the leader, and what they saw her doing wasn't overlooked by you.

If you don't terminate her, you loose face with the rest of your employees. You gave her her second chance last Friday. As a new employee, still on probation, you didn't even have to give her as many second chances as you did. It is something that is hard to do, but she has put you in a possition that you have no other options left than to terminate her on the spot. You also have to get her out of the workplace as fast as possible so she can't cause a scene, because from what you've said already she WILL try to. That is the reason to have her escorted off property..

My simpathy is with you as to what you have to do, but be strong, and don't fall for any excuses, or tears, she comes up with. It is one of the hardest things to do in the job you have, but at times it has to be done, and you have to be strong when you do it. At this point with her, there are no more second chances, and with her being on probation, you don't have to give her a long drawn out explanation. The incident of last Friday is enough. There is no comparison with what other employees do, it is strictly about her, and her actions as an employee.

Assuming that this is not the first person in your company to ever have been terminated with immediate effect I assume that all of the stuff KB covered is part of company policies.

Bottom line, fire her immediately. I might not even wait for her to come to work. Just call her and say not to bother coming in. Some people are suggesting that she not be fired or that you have a counseling session with her. I think that is very ineffective. The crying like a baby and pulling this stunt have already proven her true character. Fire her and move on.

Whether you fire this person now or go down the councelling route is a judgement/decision you have to make. However, to let this situation continue as it is puts your credibility as a manager at risk.

Having the courage to take/make the hard option/decision is one of the strengths of a good manager.

Good luck.

I've had this problem before also, it's not easy to sack people, most people don't enjoy doing it.

She probably behaves this way because she really doesn't enjoy the job or the people there,

I'd sit her down and have a friendly chat and find out what she doesn't like and just convince her life's to short to do things you don't enjoy, (unless the monies great that is). just tell her she'd be happier working somewhere else, offer her a good reference and she probably agree and resign, Hopefully going to work for your opposition.

If that doesn't work sack her, the longer you let this rot go on it will effect you and your business and the other staff and it becomes harder to deal with the longer you let the problem go on,

Good Luck, it's never easy.

Not cruel. The one must take his/her responsibility for the job.

Typical lazy Thai staff..works a bit, rest a lot, gossiping is the main reason for going to the office, leave work before time, comes to work late of course blame the traffic ..LOL

Get rid of her.

Dear all,

Thanks for all of your comments which is valuable for me. Indeed, it's not easy to manage the people.

This morning, I sat and talked with her..told her that her behavior is unacceptable. It shows that she still not mature enough to work.As long as someone have no responsibility..work will never be good, no matter how clever of this person is. I asked how she think about what I said. She listened but have some excuse time by time without any eyes contact with me.

Yes, She will never pass this probation.

Good nigth everybbody :)
