Actually, I studied Ancient and Classical History, but I'd hazard a guess that cheese had a lot to do with it knowing those French types.

Correct... now you can take the money you've already won, or you can move on to the next question. Remember you still have three lifelines left.

The question is... What improvements could (should) be implemented in the Thai education system to improve the standard of English in the Kingdom?

(For an additional bonus point)

Is it really that important or can Thailand muddle by with Thinglish indefinitely?

Play or pass?

I still have my 3 lifelines right?

Hmm.... I'll continue. How much have I won so far? Not that I want to win the jackpot of course; I'd hate myself for having so much money.

Spooky. I had the exact conversation with a couple of students just the other day.

One 28 and the other 24, have been studying English here since kindergarten, so why can't they speak?

It's not knowledge, both have adequate vocab; grammar is an issue, and their confidence is low too as is their listening comprehension.

As I told them, listen to a native English speaker and you'll soon realise that grammar mistakes are actually how we speak. Ask a native English speaker what a preposition is and they'll look blankly at you. Grammar is not necessarily the most important part of understanding and being understood.

Their confidence and listening are both rooted in the same issue, which is lack of exposure.

Why, after 20 odd years of study would anyone say shirt white? Because they are still thinking in Thai.

What to change? All schools should be bilingual.

If that's what they want.

I had thought you had used up your 3 lifelines? Welcome back though but pls try to hang out a bit longer this time as your contributions are not only sorely needed but as usual insightful.

Cheers guys, but I was told that rather than try to ban me again, it'd be easier to just sell me the site.

Can anyone lend me 199 Baht?

I wonder if people wonder what I wonder, because I wonder what people wonder. Do YOU wonder what I wonder? Now THAT is what I wonder. I wonder what you’re wondering as you wonder what I wonder, if of course you’re even wondering what I’m wondering…

I wonder..

Here are some more tips to improve your English (and other languages)

- Read more, you can start from comic book or short story that you like.

- Use dictionary regulary (Eng-Eng dictionary is better than Eng-Thai)

- Play English language games such as crosswords, scribble etc..

- Songs and movies in English, help you with the listening skill.

- Try to speak English as much as possible with farang friends and dare to make mistake, dont be shy.
