Question

Hi all,

Im going back to Bangkok for the 3rd time in June for 4 months or more, and i was wondering, what is the best site for great apartments?

I have lived in the Ekkamai area for 2 months, which was great, but i think i was ripped off with the apartment.. I paid 87000B per month, 3 bedrooms..

Does anyone have any good sites? Im looking for a 1 bedroom apartment, but i want it mid-high class..

Looking forward to your reply's!

To be honest, I think your best bet is to book a hotel for a week or two and get an agent to show you around. Anything that is nice and reasonably priced is going to go fast so you're not likely to be able to see something online and hope that it's still available when you get here. The online sites are good for getting a rough idea of what a neighborhood will cost you and what kind of furnishings you might expect but things tend to move fast.

Another idea you might want to consider if a hotel that does a monthly rate. If I'm remembering the prices correctly I stayed at the President Solitaire on Soi 11 for about 50,000 baht per month. It's a nice 3 - 4 star hotel with everything including a kitchen and full sized fridge. If you're looking to spend less there are tons of other hotels that offer a monthly rate. Middle-class place in central Bangkok can probably be had for 30,000 - 40,000 a month.

Guess it depends on how many people you have with you. Did you need the 3 bedrooms? You can find some cheapish apartments but finding them on a short term contract is something else as most owners want a year contract.

If you have someone you know and trust in BKK already then ask them to help you. If you don't know anyone (or don't trust anyone) then I would do what admin said and that is to stay in a hotel for a couple of weeks while finding a place. Try craigslist or just try google. Happy Hunting.

Here are a few sites I've used in the past: Gerwin at Amazingproperties.org, Mrroomfinder.com, bahtsold.com, easyhomes.tv, and sabaai.com. You should be able to find what you are looking for. Mrroomfinder.com is the best updated of the bunch, with new listings added daily.

OHH! And the most important thing is, i need a place with the fastest internet available.. Internet is my work, and i cant work with that crapy 1mbit download speed which everyone has..

I think you may be out of luck on that one. No matter how fast they claim the speed is . . . it isn't. :-)

I agree with Bill (admin) - check into a hotel and then use an agent, if you decide on an apartment. I also contacted a few websites when I got here, but they either didn't reply or were very slow. The agent was top class.

I have a one bedroom apartment in a very nice complex on the Sukhumvit Rd. It's between Ekkamai and Phra Khanong, just a short walk to the BTS. It has a rooftop garden/gym/pool. I agreed on 20k per month, on a 6 month deal. I'm happy with that.

I also work online for a living. I have 5mb, which is 10x slower than back home in London, but it's workable.
