paddy26
I just arrived in the land of smiles yesterday. In my journal aboput comming here another member stated that I could not get a taxi from the new airport. That I would need to catch a shuttle bus 3 km to some transit thingy. or pay huge amounts for a private car. These 2 things are happening and you are expected to catch the transit bus. However if as you leave the immigration section fight thruogh the chaos and go left. go down one floor to where the departures are being dsropped off. from thisd point you can get a normal meter taxi. so whatever you do go down one more floor to get a taxi. the guys at the first exit are asking 900 baht
paddy26
just a foot note on the airport itself. there are heaps more immigration booths now so you get through there fast. however you will still be waiting for your luggage. aand the place really does look unfinished. it kind of resembles a multi story car park not an airport too much bare concrete i think
zeusbheld
900 baht??? what does it cost if they actually use the meter?
frankenburner2
meter taxi to sukhumvit area should run about 200baht at the most...+ 50 baht surcharge...of course, depending on trafic....900baht is just the same cheating twats moving over from the old airport! Probably they got the first place to pick up passengers.
CMG_UK
Seeing as I'll be arriving at 6am after a 12 hour flight, I think I'll be happy to pay 1,000 baht to get a car to take me to my hotel. I'll be so happy to be there after months of thinking about it, that I may as well share the love... I'll pick you up for 1000B, but it might not be so comfortable on the back of my motorbike. Ok, 800B....

Asked how much to Thonglor (Sukhumvit Soi 55) and was told 50 Baht plus the meter. Was give a official piece of paper explaining what/wasn't included and with info on making a complaint if neccesary. It took just 30 minutes to get to Thonglor Soi 9, via the expressway, Rama IX, and Pethcburi Road. The meter came to 170 Baht. The AE3 express bus runs up Bangna-Trad and along Sukhumvit, on to Ploenchit, up by Central world Plaza and loops around to Nana before heading back up Sukhumvit Road, costs 150 Baht. The 552 public bus can run you to Onut for 15 Baht, But considering the traffic on Bangna-Trad and along Sukhumvit I think I'll stick to Taxis. GermanUsa
What about the rail service that is supposed to go from airport to BKK? No one here is speaking of that, is it not built yet? :?:
MikeAussieGuy
When back home in Sydney a few weeks ago, I had my usual shock at the taxi metre going into turbo mode, mainly because I am now use to the taxi fares here. In Sydney a 25 minute taxi ride to my mums from the city costs not less than $55 Aus, thats about 1600bt, plus freeway toll $3.50 and if I pay by card the charge is 10% of the total fare fee. My taxi friend charges me that to go to Hua Hin. From the airports in London, Rome, LA, Paris etc. to the CBD is something again. Ok it's all relative, so I dont need a lecture in wages vs expenditure etc. but for visitors into Thailand, I dont think many would complain about paying 300bt, around $8US, from the airport to the CBD. Goodghost
the guys at the first exit are asking 900 baht Happy to pay 1.000 baht? Good for you. I'm happy to save money where it's possible. Its the likes of people like you that make the prices go through the roof for all the others. No..... In fact, it's you that pushes the price through the roof for all others by giving more than the asking price. Mr Generous. It's still better to have friends pick you up in their car when you arrive. Don't you have friends here? I'd pick you up...but then again, I'm not your friend.

Exactly. To even look at an empty taxi at heathrow costs u about 2 pound (140 Baht) A half hour journey would cost you 1,400 baht minimum (I'm guessing here). A very high % of passaengers have absolutely no idea of what is a realistic price, they might not even have worked out what the Baht v. own currency is worth. The 1st time i flew to Bkk i paid 500 baht and thought that was cheap, relating it to UK prices. .

zeusbheld
It's still better to have friends pick you up in their car when you arrive. i'd rather be a friend to my friends and avoid asking them to be at the airport waiting for me at 6 am. 300 - 350 isn't that expensive, as long as one makes sure they do meter+airport surcharge (50 baht). Goodghost
Yes,depends on if friends are free to pick you up & what time of day. But isn't the surcharge 100 baht now?
macca_tirana
I am assuming this overcharging is an illegal practice. Im also assuming that the government is not bothered about this and therefore not doing anything about it.

The Punisher
I paid 260 Baht (including the surcharge) from Suvanabhum to Ekkamai BTS station. Leave the airport, turn right and head north until Highway 7; turn left and keep going along Highway 7 onto Rama 9 and then left on to Ekkamai. No problems. You can even carry straight on along Sri Ayudhya if you want to get to the other side of town (Phyathai BTS) for about the same price.
