NiceNYGuy
Here is the latest I have read. This is posted from another forum Spoke with a very high government official yesterday. He stated that it?s all in Khun Thaksin?s hands now. Some shocking comments such as paragraph 3 or 4 that I was not aware of. Only because who this person is, is why I?m repeating it because otherwise I look rather foolish, if something else happens:-) Please remember I?m just repeating what I heard, these are not my opinions or do I necessary agree with every word of the reasoning. Here is his take? On March 1st.. 1. Khun Thaksin could declare that its 2. a.m or even 1 a.m. for everyone. In his opinion 70% chance of that happening. If he does this, expect also the statement that? no NEW entertainment licenses can or will be issued outside the zones.? Khun Thaksin definitely does not want any new places springing up outside the zones. 2. Khun Thaksin could declare midnight for businesses outside the zone and 1. a.m and 2 a.m in the zones as is proposed now. 30% chance for this. 3. TKhun Thaksin however can NOT change the zones or add zones. This has already been proclaimed by the King a long time ago and would take six months minimum to add more. 4. The zones themselves can be changed to 3 a.m or even 6 a.m. if the local government such as Pattaya wants longer hours for their zones. 5. The new entertainment law is modern. The previous was written 50 years ago and had many gray areas. This is black and white and should have no police corruption. It?s positive for the businessman as he knows the laws and can follow them. 6. The reason for the zones is so they can control everything. It may look having RCA in the zone is not proper if they are concerned about teenagers welfare but they can keep a eye on them at least here rather than having them spread out through the city. They expect older Thai people will start going to RCA as well and this will help change the atmosphere. 7. If the zoning goes through, expect the properties to skyrocket upwards around the zone. They expect the outer areas of Bangkok to die off in the next three years. More and more people will be attracted to living in areas around the zones. 8. If the zoning goes thru, they expect a minimum of two million people to be effected in the pocketbook and large protests as a result. ?It will be a zoo? No matter how large the protest, don?t expect Khun Thaksin to back down like other PM?s in the past. However keep in mind that the government term is ending and their will soon be a new election. On a sidenote heard of a large protest on Friday the 27th being planned. 9. A pub can be open at 6 p.m in the zone and close at 1 a.m. A disco in the zone can open at 9 p.m in the zone and close at 2 a.m. 10. Outside the zone, a disco can be open from 9 p.m to midnight and a pub from 6 p.m. to midnight.
JCBoston
It's all going to be very interesting to watch. My take on this is that someone is making money somewhere. The "zone" happens to be occupied by the big places and, coincidentally, the big money. I wouldn't be surprised if some of that money isn't finding itself in the right corrupt pockets to allow them to stay open until 2am, while all the mom-and-pop places go to hell in a handbag. I don't get the reasoning that this somehow prevents kids from taking drugs. I'm not a drug user, so maybe I'm not familiar, but is it only possible to take drugs after midnight and in a public place? If I were going to do that, I'd get it over with by 9pm, and be in bed enjoying my high at midnight. Oh well...guess these kids will have to just suck it up and do their drugs earlier or at home. Everyone knows drug use by a few delinquents is a bigger problem than poverty and unemployment. The government can feel free to increase the latter a bit if it decreases the former, with no fear of public repercussions. I'm sure, as well, that all those rowdy party-goers will go home and hit the sack at 12. It's unthinkable that they might go back to their own neighborhoods and have rowdy parties until 2 or whatever time they see fit. Thai people are too kreng jai to keep their neighbors awake like that. And besides, it's well know that people are on their best behavior at home, whereas they behave like beasts in bars and other places of entertainment. Best send them on their way early. Maybe we can have a 30 baht per beer scheme to ensure that all drinkers get their fill in time for the curfew. I hope for Khun Thaksin's sake that the voters forget about this little transgression on their rights, and see instead the wealth of benefits this will create. Just my 2 satang ramblings... Loburt
For Onlynx, I used to like the Irish Xchange when it was Shenanigans and whatever it was before that. But word has it that the people who bought it and turned into the Irish Xchange are the same people running those boiler rooms that got busted a couple of years ago. They're a bunch of thieves and, possibly, murderers. So that place is definitely off my list. Why make those b*****ds even richer? There's plenty of other places to hang out. A few people have mentioned bars and discos up in the Ratchada-Sutthisarn area. Anybody ever been? Are they cool? Which are the best ones? Which ones would have the lowest quotient of Duangchalerm types? Which places (in any part of town) are the most/least likely to be the target of that fat alcoholic pig Pracha and his urine testing boys in brown? lipp
Mystique (sukhumvit soi 31) The Venue Mystique Bangkok brings a lavish new meaning to the word ?Nightclubbing?: 3 floors providing 3 new worlds in which to delve deeply. Each floor brings the clientele to another level, both figuratively and literally, offering a sensually mysterious atmosphere throughout, including 5 luxuriously themed exclusive VIP areas. Guests can indulge their changing moods with the variety of styles and themes represented in different zones of the club. Each theme and all interior decoration has been meticulously designed down to the smallest detail by the venue?s own General Manager/Partner Daryl Scott. ?Quite frankly, it?s lavish in every way, but by no means quixotic,? he acknowledges. State-of-the-art technology in sound, lighting and security maintain both the audio and visual integrity of the club, as well as ensuring the comfort and safety of its guests. Parking dramas, so often a problem in Bangkok, have been alleviated by the acquisition of an expansive parking lot across from the club, with separate entrance and exit to avoid annoying traffic jams. Mystique Bangkok, innovative nightclub experience, is also designed for corporate parties, launches, outdoor events and live remote broadcasts, shows and other spectacles. This ?smart? club is intelligently wired for media, and makes an ideal location for most gatherings from very small, to sizeable events. Loburt
Okay, I?m going to make one more post about The Irish Xchange to clarify what I wrote, and then that will be the end of it for me. First, as for my information, it?s about the owners, not the managers or staff who I?m not knocking in any way. The information is solid and does not come from the local papers. As for beating the rap in a Thai court, let?s get real here guys, Duangchalerm beat the rap. Do you think he?s innocent? From what I?ve learned, these are some really bad, nasty people who are and have been involved in a lot worse things than money laundering and, if there is a hell, are going straight to it without passing Go or collecting $200. I?ve gone there on and off over the years in all its incarnations, and it?s a shame it has been bought by these people. It?s a shame these people are actually still walking around free. Have I ever patronized an establishment run by bad people? Undoubtedly, although it would usually have been without my knowing it. And it?s probably not possible to eat at a restaurant in Little Italy in New York without some of my money ending up in some mafia guy?s pocket. Or a lot of other restaurants for that matter. As for a boycott, I?m not organizing one, calling for one, or anything else. I?m just putting the information out there. After that, it comes down to personal choice. I?m not saying I would never set foot in the place, but I prefer not to go there, especially as there are a lot of other fun places to hang. Whatever your personal choice is, well, it?s a free country, or at least it was until January 10, 2001. I?m not judging you on it, and I?m not looking to debate you on it. Yes, they don?t miss my money. As a matter of fact, if the place went bust tomorrow and they lost their entire investment, I?m sure they would still have money to burn. I?m in no way pretending to be any kind of saint, but when it comes to patronizing a place run by them, well, my conscience tells me to find another place to drink. That?s where I?m at on this. Enjoy your Guinness.
