came across some profiles mentioning they have a good job...just out of a curiosity...what do you consider as a "good" job?

a good job isnt equal to a good enough job...to me.

what you use to measure?

add-on: so if you say a well paid...what does it mean? *to you* of course.

a good job for me is something i can get enough money to enjoy my life such as traveling. but still that job should be not that bad...i must don't hate it. work is work. every job has a tough part eventhough u love it to death. u will never enjoy it 100%. i can't have fun while i'm working. it separates......

Funny when I hear about ''good job'' I always think of my parents.. They always told me to study hard so I would 'get a good job'. In their day a 'good job' was any profession that didn't involve manual or dirty work and generated respect from others.. So Doctor, lawyer, Bank Manager etc were all considered 'good jobs' of course though they carried high status there were many other jobs that were more exciting, fun and better paid..

many people tell me they'd love my job.. I get to travel, have lots of time off and get a good salary.... However like most things in life the grass is always greener on the otherside of the fence.. What they don't see is the hours spent travelling, the nasty hotels, the homesickness, being stuck with people you have nothing in common with... Of course I do get paid well and there are always sacrafices to be made if money is what you want...

So guess to me a 'good job' would be one that I would still do even if I wasn't being paid.. Of course in reality there are many people doing jobs they love (scuba instructor, artist, photographer, writer etc) but recieving a very small pay packet every Month.. That is their sacrafice...

So maybe once again 'balance' is the key... find something you don't mind doing and that pays well enough so you can have a comfortable life......

I agree with above post!

Furthermore, since I started working 9 years ago, I defined for myself what I consider as a 'good' job. These are my most important criteria (in random order) :

. good atmosphere at work (nice colleages, good infrastructure, fun environment, ...)

. good renumeration (above industry average)

. being intellectually challenged and being able to work with cutting edge new technology

Due to a long illness recently, I added a 4th criteria :

. above 'human' behaviour of the company and a boss with a lot of empathy

I find all these things in my current job/company. I know I can earn double of what I have now elsewhere but the other criteria are not met there so I refused.

Having said that, in a couple of years I will stop this work and try to become fully professional photographer :-)

A lot of people talk about empathy of the boss and it is important, no doubt. However, not all bosses can be good. Some are real assholes. Over time I figured u have to learn to manage ur boss. It got to the point where I began to tell people how to amnage me. If u can manage ur boss u can have a rewarding job even if the boss is not empathetic.

On the subject of empathy and illness I do agree with baboe. I had to quit my job because of illness and I was treated inhumanly. I had 10 very happy years at this company but the way I was treated at the "death" leaves a biter taste in my mouth.

A good job is one that you enjoy.

I had a job where I got paid a lot more than I do now but I hated it.

If you spend as much of your life working as I do you should enjoy your job.

Money is not everything, I could work hard all my life yet achieve nothing except wealth. whats the point in that.

I have known many people who have died early and did not get to do the things they wanted.

Thats not gonna happen to me.

A good job is what I do, personal banker to private banking clients such as Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford etc.

Not that ******* private then if ya bragging about your clients on the net,

Obviously not that good at your job either client confidentiality and all that out the window just to sound good eh

I would sack ya

I think when he says 'Im a personal banker' he's using cockney rhyming slang

Note to self: I did not disclose my client's assets (I see another joke coming from "assets"). Be familiar with BSA and Reg O before making comments about banking regulations or simply leave the banking to me (although I don't think anyone on TF could even open a checking account where I work, but I won't assume).

You should really learn to cut your losses and quit before making a complete fool of yourself... I tried giving you a hint, others won't be so nice.
