Joopjip
What's the point of travelling anymore when everywhere is the same..when you find people doing the same thing eating the same thing wearing the same thing? Now it may still vary slightly from place to place but what will we be like in ten or thirty years? especially all the tourist destinations where cultural shock only means oh they like karaoke?!!Sadly what don't grow as fast as Mcdonald's, Roxy, Louise Vitton and Coca cola are human rights, democracy, adequate education and freedom... Neo
Come to exotic Thailand and stay at the Marriot, buy your Coca Cola from Seven 11, eat at MacDonalds or Pizza Hutt, drink Starbucks coffee in the morning, go to Hard Rock cafe at night, dance to the latest imported beats at some farang owned bar, meet girls who speak English and have modelled their behavior by watching The OC and Legally Blonde. Buy some clothes from Dolce & Gabana or Paul Smith, drink some Heineken. It's an adventure for those daring to step outside of their comfort zones and meet the challenges of experiencing a foreign culture.

Simmo_V2.0
Glabalisation?? .. sounds painful..
bored
Globalisation has it drawbacks but it is also responsible raising the largest number of people out of poverty than any other means or system in history. The pros and cons can be debated ad naseum but to say "globalization is bad " is being rather simplistic. The truth is that without globalization many, if not most, of the people on this site would never have come to Thailand i personally came to thailand cuz i was drunk in a bar and i met another drunk. we talked for about for 3-4 hours about f*&k knows what and few days later we were landing at dong muang. if you consider alcohol as a global factor then yeah globalization made me come to thailand... and maybe also made me stay there for about 6 years. zeusbheld
... dance to the latest imported beats at some farang owned bar. now that's not fair. everyone knows you'll be dancing to five-year-old imported hip hop, and the latest beats from ANYWHERE are on thailand's endangered species list... True. I did say "latest imported beats" as in the last ones to be imported, which may have already been 5 years old before the out of work full moon drug dealer / sex tourist / dj soiled these fair shores with his presence. zeusbheld
try the usa its the same crap from one coast to the other. not necessarily the music in new york is much better if you know where to go. but then as spalding gray said, new york is "an island off the coast of america." zeusbheld
try the usa its the same crap from one coast to the other. i cannot agree with your interesting and challenging thesis. may i introduce you to 'sparklehorse'. i hope that is a lesson to you, young man. to be fair, you'll never hear sparklehorse on mainstream radio, not even in new york (wfmu, wbai, etc are not mainstream). so indeed it is a complex question...
