Thai girls and braces

Just curious why do so many Thai girls/women on the site wear braces? In America and Europe, you rarely see adult men or women wear those. I?ve read a newspaper piece that said this was a fashion thing in Thailand and that selling ?fake braces? had in fact become illegal in that country.

So if this is a fashion statement what?s the point of it, to try and look younger? What do the guys on the site think about it?

Is it the equivalent of American rappers putting fake gold or jewelry pieces in their teethes?

I?m really not putting down people that are doing it, just being curious and trying to understand the kind of fashion statement that they are making.

Agreed: insane if not truly needed.

I've been offered other opinion too when I asked why on earth get braces when you are over teenager when the braces need years to affect compared to fixing things in young age.

Money and wealth.

Some of these people have gotten their own money and do it when they start to knock the age of 30 and then decide to go for it because "their parents did not have the money when they were kids and Thailand has poor dental healthcare"...(But then...how much does it have to do with self-awareness on your own looks vs. real dental problem to be fixed if you decide to "need it" at the age of 30? Well, naturally everyone does cosmetic operations how they deem necessary etc....)

Who knows, all I know that it would really REALLY be better to fix the teeth in the growth age if you got the money to fix them because it sure must be cheaper and faster then (Hmm, I would really be interested how expensive can it be? After all it does not require constant monthly trips to doctor does it, and I really doubt that the braces themselve can be that expensive over the period of care? I honestly don't know the cost of braces for children...It woudl be interesting to know actually.).

It really ain't never pretty. I know kids really hate them too and really want to get out of them as soon as possible.

jlanne: I stand corrected. That is big bag of money, 40 000 baht. What does the cost include off? Is this the price for adults?

How much it would be for children when the treatmeant lasts considerable less (still long though) and is more effective?

It really sounds amazing that someone would consider braces as "show off wealth" as it is as stupid (imho) as those rap video guys! I think it is more lame than any kind of show off wealth. And weight control?!

be careful. this could upset a lot of females.

Yes, it is a status symbol. But not all women who have them need them. Er... not all women who need them have them. ummm it is not a status symbol only to some.

I hated the things when I had them. It sacrred me emotionally.. probably for years (possibly forever). I admire those who can enjoy them, to be honest. But I hated my parents and orthodontists when I was put in the chair. I used to draw horrific cartoons of myself torturing the orthodontist with his instruments.

If the girls want to wear them the only downside is halitosis. Fellatio is not to be feared.

I used to have brace...twice...

I cant remember exactly how much i (my mom) had paid for it.... but it was more than 40K for sure....

For the first time, i had to pay for pulling 4 teeth and brace.... that was about 10-15K. And i had to see orthodontist every month and paid TB 1,000.... at least (normal case)... it's about for 2 years.... or maybe more.

If you want to reshape the teeth... no teeth pull... it might be only 1 year and a half.... which it's cheaper.

I made the decision because i wanted to get the better teeth shape... i wasnt satisfied when I smiling..... afterward my facial shape has been changed.... and i have a pleasant smile.... i think it's worth....

That time is not for fashionable or showing off.... about 12 years ago

Jlanne:"So now you know women have to deal with lots of pain in exchange for beauty; Orthodontics, plastic surgeries, breast implant, botox injection, etc. So better cherish them " <<--- "them" do you mean cherish women or those body modifications???

Below is my humble opinion with poor english

Some (most) girls in Thai Society think wearing brace could make them look like from rich family ( that is why it become fashion & fake braces are sellable ).

I was wearing brace during 1994 - 1996 , in my case, its about mouth and teeth essential , they cost me my fortune, altogether 50,xxx b.at that time. ( Dental Clinic soi Suk 19, i still wear retainers )

I also think, the attitude about brace nowaday for thai girls is not diffirent from using whitening skin lotion.

You might be right, but MAN! does it look cute on some girls. I remember a girl back in Holland who was half Bosnian and half something else and she was very pretty AND KIND TOO (amazing but true) but because of her braces and the way her boyfriend treated her she didn't think she was cute at all and she always tried to hide the braces. Sometimes if she had big fun she couldn't stop her mouth going into smile mode and then she sort of tried to hide it with her tongue a bit. She was one of the cutest girls I have ever met and somehow the braces had a big part in this. A lot of co workers back then agreed and each and every one remembers her smiling :)

plus... you might have a bonus ie. guys... etc.

Yea but isn't that like uhh, more a punishment than "bonus"?:lol::lol::lol:

well, we have to get rid of "them" before they turning to the punishment or spoil .....

high turnover??? is it the one solution? i'm not sure....
