Eva,who i was supposed to be flying with today, have not got any flights available now untill the 11th of December with an increase in price of 150 pounds...

I have found a flight with Thai, for the 7th...do i take the chance and book this flight? I know it's hard to predict but I feel that because Thai are the national carrier, they will be getting flights in-and-out first...

ADVICE PLEASE....

I would presume by then, even if the siege continues, Thai Airways will land in alternate locations like U-tapao (sp)

My prediction is the traffic will be going in one direction and it won't be in... don't be surprised if there are some mysterious visa issues that suddenly come up for people trying to enter. Obviously the airports remain closed because somebody wants them closed. I'll let you draw your own conclusions about that.

If the situation does not improve and when you have booked the flight (assuming you have paid), will you be compensated? Otherwise you will be spending more monies to book air ticket again. I suggest wait and see if you does not have urgent thing to attend to in Bangkok.

Yes I have paid but will also get a full refund...

Bangkok Post: Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports will not open before Tuesday at the earliest, officials said on Saturday. Serirat Prasutanon, president of Airports of Thailand, said the airport is occupied and unable to operate. Previous statements said the airport would be closed until at least Friday, and then Saturday.

OK - so the airport will be closed until Monday, no Tuesday, no wait, Wednesday, really meant Thursday, but it will probably be Friday

Tuesday Dec 2nd date coincides with the deadline for the Constitution Court's decision, might still take a while to get the airport cleared and back to normal (hopefullly overnight?), guessing the original date (Saturday) the police were intended to move in but didn't:

"On Friday it was reported that the Constitution Court would not conduct any more trial and will issue verdicts on December 2. Ever since speculation has been rife that the ruling People Power Party would be certainly dissolved, whereas the Chat Thai and Machima Thipataya parties also apppear doomed.

PPP deputy leader and party-list MP Karn Thienkaew said it was very likely the PPP would be dissolved as the Court was not allowing its 36 executives to make any clarifications. In this case the executives' voting rights must be revoked. Other MPs must move to another party within 30 days, and most of them are moving to the Phue Thai Party.

The next prime minister must come from that party as it will have the most MPs in Parliament, Karn said.

He said he would resign his parliamentary seat to open the way for the next in line on the list to become MP.

A PPP source who asked not to be named said someone very close to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra would be invited to lead Phue Thai to draw votes from Thaksin's supporters. Among those tipped is General Chaisit Shinawatra, former supreme commander and a cousin of Thaksin."

Business leaders yesterday threatened to stop paying taxes unless the government ended the civil chaos.

The Thai Chamber of Commerce called on the government to step down and coalition parties to withdraw from the administration because the government is seen as incompetent and the country is plunging deeper into a political and economic crisis.

Some of the chamber's members even suggested that business people stop paying taxes to the government as an act of civil disobedience if the request is ignored.

If you want honest advice then I would say you are taking a big risk to be going to Thailand right now. The situation is very very dangerous. At any moment it could all turn very very ugly and I am talking third world -nasty and dangerous. It is not at all so unlikely now. It is actually the way things are heading and so you would be flying into a virtual war zone or civil war within weeks or months.

All those things you love about Thailand will no longer be the case [to the same degree anyway] and the reasons for you going there may not be valid anymore before too long.

Just wait until after xmass and consider going in mid or late Jan.

Just very risky now I think?

Why the protests are criminal:

The following problems involve the world, not just Thailand.

1. It shuts down at least 3% of all world trade, as Thailand is a flight "HUB".

2. Innocent international travellers are in harms way. Breach of Geneva Conv.

3. Some travellers are sick and need medical attention in their homelands.

4. It is not only travellers that are concerned, industrial flights are cancelled.

5. Food, supplies, resources are blocked, both in and out of Thailand.

6. Most travellers are not here with enough money to stay for extended periods

7. Emergency services are basically blocked to and from the Airport.

8. When the government, military or police move in there will be innocent people harmed and or killed. Notice I said when, not "if'.

9. Terrorist attacks are NEVER a way to acheive resolutions of any kind.

10. The things we all take for granted here in Thailand will soon become scarce.

11. The International courts will hold criminal charges against all parties involved. There will be long and costly actions against Thailand.

12. Tourism will basically dwindle towards more poverty.

13. Ten years ago, this would be soon forgotten, but now the internet, you tube, msn, the world will have this in their minds and hearts. The world does NOT pity a violent society, be it religious or politically instigated.

We as non-thai's can neither judge nor rule the political reasonings, however we are now the victims, as the impact is on the hundreds of thousands of tourists, stranded and basically unprotected.

victims .... dry ur f**king eyes and go press ur skirt !!!

you mean the one million or so thais who will suddenly find themselves laid off? they'll be too busy looking for work to cry.

With so many ( hundreds of thousands ) Farang "victims", maybe the unemployed Thais could press their skirts for them.

@ 50BHT/skirt, surely it would be a great injection to the Thai economy. I'd even make it law that NO crying Farang be allowed to press their own skirt unless of course they a hold permanent resident visa :P

to answer your question, take that seat and leave. I am weighing my alternatives and may have a very long bus or train trip ahead of me next week. Ughhhhhh.

Nobody really knows what will happen in Thailand and it could get ugly. I think that the prime minister is going to flee the country, the military will step in to "save Thai people," but the military will appoint a civilian leader pending a new election. The new election could be after changes to the constitution.

Many people are waiting to see what the King has to say on Dec 4, the day before his birthday. The true state of the King's health and powers that that make the wheels turn in the Palace are the subject of great gossip amongst the Thai people that i have met.

The court will make some sort of semi-illegal decicion to dissolve the ruling parties. Then the PAD must leave airport asap as they do not want to embarrass themselves even more on 4th of December. They just cant stay on the birthday. Counterintuitive.

My personal hunch is that this week will be a bit more exciting than that.

Kongjak Jaidee joins the race to become the next Bangkok governor. His campaign will focus on the global warming crisis (check his photo on Bangkok Post)... he would certainly have my vote.. he doesn't sound like a nut at all.. his wiki page:

Dear Wikipedia friends,

I am GoodJai.

Good = Good. Jai (in Thai) = Heart

Thus GoodJai = Good Heart.

My real name is Kongjak Jaidee.

I was born on earth.

I strongly think that the world should be unified (There should be only one country in the world. We are the world.) And the Human Dharma (World Dharma or World Teaching) should be developed.

I have written quite much about the United World and the World Religion. You can learn more about them and about me in my website: http://www.goodjai.com

Global Love,

Globe = GoodJai

(I mean I have another name as Globe.)"

Somehow I think you're right about that. A 'peaceful' dispersal was still possible by december 5th until today. With a confrontation looming ever closer, I'd stock up on essentials for the week(s) to come.

Yellow, red camps bring country closer to the brink

By The Nation

National divide is deepening drastically, with sporadic lawlessness threatening to spread on both sides of the conflict. Sporadic mob rules have threatened to take on a far larger scale this weekend, with protesters on both sides of the political showdown showing less and less respect for the rule of law and human rights.

After the Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports have fallen to the yellow-shirt People's Alliance for Democracy, now the Constitution Court is in danger of being surrounded by red-shirt pro-government protesters and nobody knows what is going to happen if the court on Tuesday decides to disband three ruling parties.

Equally worrisome are minor incidents across the country. Vendors watching ASTV have been intimidated by red-shirt people. PAD protesters have fired on a reporter's car, although that was described as a mistake (the car was mistaken as that of assailants). Southern anti-government protesters have threatened to seize provincial halls in all 14 southern provinces if a crackdown was initiated against Suvarnabhumi protesters.

Prime Minister Somchai yesterday took a pilgrimage to pay respect to a Buddhist holy site in Nakhon Phanom while redshirt crowds have threatened to become vigilantes to punish yellowshirt protesters. Somchai went to pray before the Buddha's relic at Wat Phra That Phanom, People Power Party MP Paijit Srivorakan said. Following his visit to the temple, he would spend a night in Udon Thani where a pro-government rally took place. He is expected today to return to his temporary office in Chiang Mai. Paijit said northeastern constituents as well as their MPs would rally to show moral support for the prime minister.

In Chiang Mai, several pickup trucks filled with progovernment crowds were driven to a number of crowded public places rousing the people to take the law into their hands and attack the yellowshirt protesters and their supporters. In the message, people have been encouraged to identify and shut down businesses and shops run by or linked to the protesters led by the People's Alliance for Democracy.

On Friday's night, a number of redshirt men forced a noodle vendor at Nong Hoy market to close down on the ground for watching the antigovernment programmed aired by ASTV satellite station. Between Friday and yesterday, redshirt crowds distributed flyers in English to foreign visitors criticising the seizure of two major airports at Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi.

Speaking in the capital, Democrat Party spokesman Buranat Samutarak warned that the chance for a negotiated settlement was fast diminishing as time dragged on. The country is heading for unprecedented violence and bloodshed, he said. He called for Interior Minister Kowit Watana, who is in charge of crowd control, to quickly commence negotiations with the PAD before it was too late. He went on to criticise former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra for resuming his political activities which have in turn inflamed the situation. The situation might turn into a violent mayhem following yesterday's rally by the redshirt crowds at Sanam Luang, he said.

In Udon Thani, about 10,000 redshirt crowds rallied to support the government and safeguard Somchai during his overnight stay, organiser Kwanchai Praipana said. Kwanchai said each northeaster constituency would mobilise about 20,000 people to rally in Bangkok on Tuesday in order to oppose the anticipated disbandment of the ruling party. He called on the government to allow redshirt crowds to disperse the yellowshirt protesters if police failed to do their job. Two MPs from Lop Buri, Suchart Lainamngern and Amnuay Klangpha, predicted that more than 100,000 redshirt crowds would turn out to rally by Tuesday in order to counter the PADled protests.

The PAD has, meanwhile, been mobilising the protesters from the 14 southern provinces to reinforce the antigovernment crowds at the three rally sites, Government House, Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi. PAD's Nakhon Si Thammarat chapter leader Osoth Suwansawaet said each local chaper was responsible for dispatching 200-300 protesters daily to the three rally sites. Osoth said PADled protesters were fully braced for crowd dispersal measures and would fight if redshirt crowds descended on them. He threatened to seize every provincial hall and block interprovincial roads in the South if police cracked down on protesters at the two airports. Nakhon Si Thammarat governor Panu Uthairat and his counterpart in Songkhla Sonthi Techanan said they had taken precautionary measures to preempt any attempts to blockade provincial halls.

Government spokesman Natthawut Saikua said it was evident from news clips that PADled protesters were armed and tried to attack unarmed police. "Armed protesters should immediately stop violent attacks against the unarmed authorities," he said. He said the prime minister and his government have remained fully functioning although the situation has to be reassessed on a daily basis.

The Tuesday's Cabinet meeting is expected to proceed but the venue has yet to be picked, he said. The government sponsored meritmaking ceremony is on track for Tuesday although it is uncertain whether Prime Minister Somchai will leave Chiang Mai to personally chair the event, he said.

Somchai remains uncertain whether he can attend ceremonies relating to His Majesty's birthday, he added. He insisted that the government refused to step down either by resigning or by House dissolution because this would tantamount to allowing the victory to the PAD.

Well I just tried to book a particular EVA flight in Feb, and that is already full too. :-( I would have thought that there would be no problem booking flights inwards with all that is happening.

You only think about the fare of your flight......I am in big sorrow about the future of Thailand.

No, I'm also thinking how I have finished my job a month early and obviously gave notice on my apartment and may still have to leave . I'm also thinking how I have my 1 year visa already and am gonna lose about six weeks off it and how I have paid for my flight and it's going to take me up to 3 months to get my money back and I still haven't got a flight...I'm being really selfish thinking about myself, I know!

The Problems Thailand has are made from her own accord. I can only be so sympathetic

Red shirts will take over the Constitutional Court to delay the decision to dissolve Govt?? Remember reading somewhere else they are meeting at an undisclosed location so things should be ok... if this doesn't get sorted on Tuesday things are guaranteed to get worse fast..

"Red-shirt leaders hint the court might be besieged ahead of crucial rulings

Leaders of a pro-government rally hinted Sunday protesters might surround the Constitution Court which is set to rule on party dissolution cases on Tuesday.

The rally, which has attracted thousands of largely-peaceful people in red shirts today, is taking a place in front of the Bangkok city hall, which is just a few minutes walk to the Constitution Court.

The pro-government camp claims the court's decision to wrap up the cases against the People Power, Chat Thai and Matchima Thipataya parties early signalled a conspiracy against the government."

Yes, the police here are coward, but they also know that tourists will be harmed if they attack the idiot PAD terrorists.

If the Thai police start acting like the American ones, I will leave this country

on the next Buffalo.

Of course this situation is crap, but at least we have more freedoms here. You all have to agree with that.

Isn't that one of the reasons we are all here????

Who dropped the soap?

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've read on TF.com. And that is saying a lot.

Thanks, I'll take that as a compliment. Finally someone intelligent sees my irony.

By the way, I'm not a guest, nor a tourist. I am here with a KOR ROR 6.

Not to mention the fact that the foreigners stuck at the airport are in effect being used as a political bargaining chip and in a worst case scenario, as human shields.

and this is just plain f**king scare mongering .... my understanding is that there r NO foreigners at the airport and haven't been for some time !!!

That is the biggest crock of sh*t. No foreigners have been prevented from leaving the airport.

I'll second both Ciaran and Loburt. Can people pls get a grip and not engage in reckless fiction.

BTW, it should be noted that Loburt is probably the only one to have actually been to the airport after the PAD shut it down.
