EMBARRASSED CITIZENS PLAN RETALIATION

A RELATIVELY small but well-funded group of middle-class Bangkokians have turned Thailand into an embarrassment internationally.

If you travel beyond the trendy enclaves of inner Bangkok, you'll find many Thais are embarrassed and angry about what the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) is doing to the country - hijacking airports and now threatening to do the same with sea ports if Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat doesn't resign.

There is so much anger that it feels like the country is about to erupt. It will take a miracle for there not to be widespread bloodshed in Bangkok this week.

Until now, pro-government supporters have been lobbing a few grenades, but there are rumours that they are arming themselves with more strategic weapons for an assault on Suvarnabhumi airport.

"We want to free the airport," one pro-government supporter told The Australian.

And they don't believe the police or army will stop them.

The situation has deteriorated so much that some commentators are now talking about civil war, as they believe the situation is beyond peaceful resolution.

Sure security. It is not like PAD drove the coppers out of the road blocks to airport. Why anyone thinks coppers would do **** for PAD if they are not doing anything for the rest of the population either. It is not like they are not only NON-protecting PAD, they are not protecting ANYONE.

Besides...JOINT PERIMETER PATROLS? For christs sake who these PAD guys think they are! That is a friggin joke! It is like Thai southern anti-government terrorists asking protection from pro-government Buddhist terrorists. I am exhausted. The PAD movement has turned long time ago into self-delusional lying maschine. I have seen people with brains throw them away and chant the PAD support lines, some of them true some of them just lies. The reports one can read on daily basis about journalists being bullied now by PAD, the guys saying they are unarmed when the same article says how PAD co-leader apoligices for shooting journalists car. How you my Thai and non-Thai friends who support the PAD movement, how you can tell yourself these lies? And believe them yourself. :? :?: :?:

Thitinan, the quote maschine, says what everyone knows that You-Know-Who attendting PAD-member's funeral was green light for them.

Who is in power in the House of You-Know-Who. The Son-Of-You-Know-Who, or maybe even power struggle inside the House and the Counsil of Old Close Men is causing no one to say anything about the current situation.

In anycase, New Mandala shows some things in English language. I am so sure that Thai BBS forums are full of things like this but those are never openly translated to English. You know, it is "inappropriate". Gotta show good face for the foreigners etc....

The court will make some sort of semi-illegal decicion to dissolve the ruling parties. Then the PAD must leave airport asap as they do not want to embarrass themselves even more on 4th of December. They just cant stay on the birthday. Counterintuitive.

You do know the situation leading to this decision to FAST-TRACK the date to 2nd of December without needing "further evidence". The parties still had things to leave them but court has said they are ready to give out verdict. To me, that sounds like politically influenced court decision, whether or not the parties accused are guilty of what they are charged.

The leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy have agreed to allow 88 grounded aircraft to fly out of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The planes were stranded when they flew in as the PAD occupied the international airport last Tuesday night. Only a handful of passengers have been allowed to leave since then.

The agreement came after hours of negotiations between protest leaders and Airports of Thailand, the airport's owner and operator.

The first of the 88 aircraft already left Suvarnabhumi shortly after dark on Sunday evening.

Under the agreement, Thai Airways International and foreignh airlines can fly to airports in other provinces of the country to help evacuate tourists who have been stranded for nearly a week by the protesters.

There is no sign the PAD demonstrators will leave the airport.

It's kind of interesting how the people supporting PAD on this forum tend to use the same tactics as PAD itself, viz. lots of shouting and ad hominem attacks and a noticeable lack of any supporting documentation for their positions.

I think that speaks volumes. Go ahead and scream some more and call me an idiot. I'm sure that will make everything better.

I am really appalled by the farangs supporting PAD. It's a fascist revival of the Red Gaurs, pure and simple, with the specific intent of eliminating one-man, one-vote. For a Westerner to support that is disgusting in my view.

Either you believe in democracy or you don't.

Finally, to suggest that because they're "only" talking about using "expendable" Thai people as human shields (to a reporter on the record no less!) somehow proves your point that westerners are not in danger is breathtakingly naive - as well as a bit colonial and racist.

If it gets down to the level that anyone is being used as a human shield I think it's safe to say that you're not going to be protected by the color of your skin.
