What's your most precious thing?

It can be a thing or a person...or perhaps even a memory.

For me, my whole life changed when my daughter was born. And despite the fact that her mother and I have broken up, my whole waking life is governed by the thought of her.

It doesn't matter how crap my day has been; if my daughter is part of that day, every cloud DOES have a silver lining, and every rainbow DOES have a pot of gold at the end.

Bad football results, bad weather, a rubbish day at work, the recession, conflict...anything bad can be wiped out by a single smile, or even a memory of that smile, and my whole day can be transformed.

It is the first time I have ever had to take responsibility for another human being, and what a responsibility it is.

The values I impart to Cerys, the perspectives, the moral base, will stay with her throughout life, no matter what independent judgment she formulates through education and experience.

It's bloody scary, as I know any of you with children will understand.

But no matter how scary, it can be so rewarding. She is so far ahead of the other kids at nursery; we never used baby talk with her, and she never used a dummy. She can count to 10 (she is 33 months old) and can recognise some letters.

But that is not what's rewarding; it's the simple things; like a smile or a laugh when I tickle her, or when she cuddles in and says 'I miss you daddy'.

I know you don't all normally see the sentimental side of me, but hey, it's there.

So, please share; what's the most precious thing in your life, past or present.

:)

Love what you wrote here.

Since I severed three tendons and two nerves in my index and middle finger, right hand on the 15th of august this year, I started to realize my right hand is one of the most precious thing I've got. :D

All is well now, just have a lack of feeling in these fingers. Scar looks awesome and my hand is strong again. So I'm at peace with it.

almost lost an index finger (injury to palm of hand, botched surgery, later repaired by brilliant surgeon and much physiotherapy) so i know what you mean. sadly for TF, 80 words per minute service resumed within a year.

Lu, was not taking the p*ss out of your injury, not at all. It was a play on you saying your right hand was so precious and then commenting on the 'pulling' part!!am glad it's recovered well, but you need learn to appreciate British humour!!!!

:D

I know that, I'm slowly learning to appreciate it. Have a lack of Brits in my life.

I'd have to say that my pictures of my nephew and grandmum are very dear to me and Ii miss them both very much. My nephew lives in the UK and my gandmum dead when i was still a young boy. But i miss her so much and would love to be able to sat down and have a chat with her now that I'm older, and get one of those big warm hugs i miss so much.

My most precious thing would be my family (which includes my dog).

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! THEY'RE LIVING, please don't refer to living people (and annoying worthless, stinky creatures like dogs) as things. If I would do that I'm sure I'd get smacked in the head by my mom right now telling me to stop being so impolite :P
