zeusbheld
Politics is about separation of the people; divide and conquer - and the elite ruling class win. ever taken a look at what goes on in nature? the people weren't ever together *before* politics. when politics works, it's still ugly but slightly less violent than nature. when it doesn't, you have what's going on in thailand. I'd like to think we're capable of a bit more than that now ..... but I suppose you never know. at our best we can do it without killing each other. that's about the best one can hope for from H. sapiens i'm afraid. music
If politics is about getting others to do what you want, then animals within their own species practise it too. As humans we have the conscious ability to use non-violent means. Unfortunately we don't exercise that option consistently because oftentimes the basis of political initiatives is derived fear. andon
Jutharat, as you are studying politics now you sure are understanding about the political circus that happens in any political situation. You may be surprised about Thailand's situation, is quite normal in many places, and in many many is even worst. Just don't stop believing in your hopes and whenever you can you contribute to your country the best way possible to you which in politics is the power of a little word, but sure to be powerful... the power of influence. vbroker
what is hapening in Thailand now?TAKSIN please go to hell for the PEACE of Thailand. I wouldn't place all the blame on any one individual for an entire country's issues. He may have exacerbated things (made it worse) but your country's root problems go a lot deeper than he alone...you should look at the big picture. I want to feel proud to answer ppl I am from Thailand again. Never be ashamed of who you are and your heritage. I am studying Politics but seem I can do nothing. It is too dirty to play politic llike this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You CAN do something but it goes far beyond politics. Poorly educated Thais allows corruption, superstitions and "face loss" to flourish. Then others (like Thaksin) can take advantage. time to be strong and cleaver together thai people. we are the same tribe. no need to seperate the side. THAT is politics...convincing the majority voters you have some answers to their problems. wish Thailand will be ok and go forward, not stop and go back step. Part of that is Thais' will to go forward...and a leader's (politician or otherwise) ability to first get Thais' trust and then push for change. try hard is fine for me, just hope to see thailand graw up. Yes...Thailand "growing up." How does that get accomplished? Someone needs to convince enough Thais that Thailand's basic education system needs to be overhauled; with special emphasis placed on educating the lower classes. The same lower classes that supported your hated Thaksin. These people's CHILDREN (the next generation) need to have access to a quality education if they are ever to break out of the vicious cycle of poverty. It will take a huge, sustained, consistent effort. There must be a rule that says every Thai child MUST get a standardized kindergarten - 8 education. It will take years if not a decade or more before results start to become apparent. It will take a great leader(s) to pull it off. Someone there has to rise above the crowds and push for great change. I hope to one day see it happen.

I'm not so sure, the highly educated here seem to breed more manipulation and cruelty than their low iq counterparts. The lust for power and money is clearly engrained in asian 'male' society and education has proved nothing except to fuel the fire. The selfishness i witness on a daily basis in Asia astounds me and the minority is clearly powerless in all instances.. I wish someone could answer me as to why Asia is so morally bankrupt? I wish someone could answer me as to why Asia is so morally bankrupt? i agree, but i wouldnt go so far as to say "asia is morally bankrupt". But this is the point i was making in my other thread "might isnt always right". Thailand at all levels seems so obsessed with, and virtually worships, money and power...and appears to value these things to a much higher level than intelligence, vision, integrity and leadership. This is ingrained in the culture at all levels, not just the uneducated.

The selfishness i witness on a daily basis in Asia astounds me and the minority is clearly powerless in all instances.. I wish someone could answer me as to why Asia is so morally bankrupt? the west is morally bankrupt too. the difference is that the playing field is closer to level because the masses are usually better educated and the elite can't afford to ignore them (they have to pander to them, and make a hero out of a schmoe like joe the plumber). I love you Thailand. Don't ever ever give up....as you have seen by the posts of mostly ex pats in Thailand, they follow the political situation very closely as if it were their own.....the politics of Thailand has suffered large worldwide public exposure of recent....that in no way makes the politics of your country any worse than most western nations.....at least in Thailand you can see what is going on, whereas most higher education level western countries have mastered the art of deceit and covered up the serious political issues they have.... So don't get disspondent.....it may not sort itself out in the short term....that doesn't mean Thailand won't sort itself out......
grezzzy_greer
Yes its critical that the poorer classes throughout the country are educated at least to a level where they can have a basic understanding of many of the issues that are disrupting the country every day. At present many of the poorer people and those up country are unable to see beyond the 500 baht that they were given to put their mark in "that box there" when they go to vote. Overseas the differences between the haves, and the have-nots are not as great - or at least are not so obvious - and the lower groups in society still have basic education enough that they can follow the issues. Sadly, the cultures in Asia often promote turning a blind eye to things you dont wish to see, so people become conditioned to ignoring rampant corruption - in any case, it is part of the cutlure and the upbringing to simply try to amass money, gold, power and influence - but only for yourself - not for the betterment of the community.
