Pepsi Max and other diet and "light" sodas

Is it true that they have banned Pepsi Max?

For 2 weeks now, I've been in search of Pepsi Max in all supermarkets and hypermarkets. It's all gone. I settled with Coke Zero instead.

But then the other day at Emporium, even Coke Zero was gone. And there were just a few Pepsi Max in cans, bought all I could find in the shelf. Then went to Villa J.Avenue and the same thing, no Pepsi Max and Coke Zero.

I don't understand. Some of my Thai officemates says because there was some research that it causes cancer. Damn right. Alcohol and cigarettes are also proven to cause cancer right? They're still sold everywhere.

I suppose diabetes is not seen as a problem? People think drinking the bottled teas full of sugar and fruit juice are so healthy. They're really with a lot of sugar.

I just want my diet soda.

They havent here, and i hope that they never will. Dont like ordinary Pepsi, but Pepsi Max is in my opinion the absolute best diet coke that exists, also compared to Zero.

The debate about light products, and how dangerous they might be seems to be split into two camps - i dont know what to believe, but i it doesnt stops me from drinking Max yet.

Im pretty strict with calories in my daily intake - and if compared to one big glass of ordinary coke, i would be able to drink more than 10 litres of Pepsi Max to get the same amount of calories.

i don't want to stop drinking pepsi max or even just coke zero... but if it runs out and they don't stock the shelves again, then it would just be water, brewed coffee and home-made iced tea [not sugar, but with artificial sweetener] for me i guess. fruit juice and bottled teas are just so full of sugar, i'd have diabetes in no time.

right now, i have 22 cans left in my fridge. my boyfriend drinks it too, so i don't think it will last a long time. just today, i had 3 cans.

Well there are even conspiracy-stories about Aspartame - i cannot take it seriously, we still yet have to have some serious report showing that it is actually a serious danger to health. It might be - but where is the proof.

http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/news/archive/newsarchive/2006/may/17111803

This detailed report sets out the facts clearly. It concludes there is no evidence to suggest that consuming aspartame at or below the existing daily recommended level by the EFSA increases the risk of cancer," he said.

enjoy your drink

If i should avoid anything that is proclaimed to be "cancer-risk" in my life, then i would probably die of thirst, starvation or lack of air.

I dont say its not dangerous, i just havent seen serious proof that it is, ive seen alot of articles on the net giving it almost cyanide-capeabillities, but very few, if any, are serious research.

yes, i'm enjoying whatever i have left.

but my question is,if it is banned, then is it just here in Thailand?

if it's not banned yet - then where are all the bottles gone?

I really just want to know where I can get more.

Like people who smoke a pack a day, i drink pepsi max a day. if they can have their addiction, why can't I? :(

Cites Danger to Health

"CARACAS (Reuters) ? The Venezuelan government of U.S.-critic President Hugo Chavez on Wednesday ordered Coca-Cola Co to withdraw its Coke Zero beverage from the South American nation, citing unspecified dangers to health.

The decision follows a wave of nationalizations and increased scrutiny of businesses in South America's top oil exporter.

Health Minister Jesus Mantilla said the zero-calorie Coke Zero should no longer be sold and stocks of the drink removed from store shelves.

"The product should be withdrawn from circulation to preserve the health of Venezuelans," the minister said in comments reported by the government's news agency.

Despite Chavez's anti-capitalist policies and rhetoric against consumerism, oil-exporting Venezuela remains one of Latin America's most Americanized cultures, with U.S. fast-food chains, shopping malls and baseball all highly popular.

Mantilla did not say what health risks Coke Zero, which contains artificial sweeteners, posed to the population.

Coke Zero was launched in Venezuela in April and Coca-Cola Femsa, the Mexico-based company that bottles Coke products locally, said at the time it aimed to increase its market share for low calorie drinks by 200 percent.

Neither Coca-Cola nor the bottler responded to requests for comment on Wednesday.

The bottler was plagued with labor problems last year in Venezuela when former workers repeatedly blocked its plants demanding back pay.

The government this year has seized a rice mill and pasta factory belonging to U.S. food giant Cargill and has threatened action against U.S. drug company Pfizer.

Chavez has also nationalized a group of oil service companies including projects belonging to Williams Companies and Exterran."

Some of you guys are exactly right with your statements.

Aspartame changes into a form of MSG in the body and it

is in fact a carcinogenic form of a chlorinated substance.

I wrote a journal about this almost a year ago on TF.

so, how dangerous is that to consume? can you help us evaluate the risk? Arent there lots of things that are carcingenic? I love a steak a little burned on outside and rare as red on inside. isnt that carcingenic?
