LakeGeneve
More children put their hand up to be recognised by dad. I have the sense the Phichit Gov has the idea of increasing the provinces wealth through a long term 'friendship and cultural exchange' program. Keigo inspires kids to seek lost fathers 26/05/2009 Keigo Zato's success in getting in contact with his Japanese father is serving as an inspiration to four youths in Phrae province to begin a similar quest. Social Development and Human Security Ministry adviser Prasong Chumchoei yesterday met four Thai-Japanese children _Thanyaluck Khamhaeng, 18, Sari Jijaiya, 18, Kazuya Mazayuki, 10, and Ayaka Yamaji, 12. Meanwhile, in Phichit province, Keigo's story has encouraged the province to develop Japanese language training skills for students and give them an insight into Japanese culture. Phichit governor Somchai Hatayatanti said the language training would not only help Keigo communicate with his father Katzumi Zato but also with visitors to Wat Tha Luang, which is a major attraction for Japanese tourists. Nine-year-old Keigo and 14 other students yesterday attended the language class. Mr Somchai hoped the students would become young guides to provide Japanese tourists with useful information when they visit the royal temple. Teacher in Phichit: " Ok children, today we are going to learn why many Japanese guys enjoy singing songs with Thai women and how some leave more than just a tip behind when they leave the country". Admin_2
"TOKYO ? The ?missing? father of a nine-year-old Thai-Japanese boy has agreed to travel from Tokyo to Bangkok in order to be reunited with an old photograph of himself he thought he lost years ago. Katzumi Zato, the absent dad of Phichit boy Keigo Zato, was recently tracked down by Thai and Japanese government officials through an old picture that shows Katzumi shirtless, wearing sunglasses and apparently having an excellent time. ?Actually, it is a miracle really,? Katzumi told Japanese paper Tokyo Shimbun over the weekend. ?I always wondered what the hell happened to that picture.? ?When the government contacted me, I was nervous at first, because I was completely kamikazed [?shitfaced? in Japanese] in that picture. But when they told me they would help me track it down, I was actually quite relieved. I could not deny it any longer. Yes, that is me in that crazy picture.? The reluctant father, who recently thanked Keigo on the phone for keeping the picture, now says he would like to meet his son in person, briefly, in order to persuade him to relinquish the old photograph. ?If Keigo agrees to give me that picture, I would love to come see him. Sure, why not? It?s the least I could do since he kept it for me all these years,? he said. ?I hope he will understand how much the picture means to me. It sure does bring back a lot of good memories.? Asked what he will do with the picture once he reclaims it, Katzumi said, ?I look so very ridiculous. It is rather humiliating really to have it printed everywhere. What kind of son would disrespect their father like this? But I accept that Keigo, being a hafu taijin, does not know better.? Katsumi has not yet decided what he will do with the picture. ?I will bring it back to Japan, stick it on my fridge, or just tear it up. Either way, it is much better if that long-lost photo is with me, where it belongs.?" http://www.notthenation.com/pages/news/getnews.php?id=

LakeGeneve
Little Keigo finally gets his wish and sis dad looks so happy in this pic to see him! I love how there is a collective amnesia in most of the press about how mum & dad met but I guess the kid doesn't really deserve those facts being highlighted given all that he has been through. Keigo's dream fulfilled as long-lost father wings in - Post 3/10/2009 After months of waiting, Keigo Zato's dream came true yesterday when the boy was finally reunited with his long-lost Japanese father. "I'm happy to see him. Tomorrow, I will take my dad to Siam Park City," said the nine-year-old from Phichit. The Thai-Japanese boy had never met his father Katzumi Zato until yesterday. Originally, Mr Zato planned to fly to Thailand on Sept 5 but the visit was postponed. The boy was accompanied to Suvarnabhumi airport yesterday by his aunt Pattama Chatupit and interpreter Chaichana Sri-anucha. Although only his aunt had seen Mr Zato before, Keigo recognised his father as soon as he saw him. The boy ran straight to his dad, and the two exchanged hugs and kisses. The boy then handed his dad a toy soldier he had promised to give him when they chatted on the phone for the first time in May. Mr Zato fell on his knees and started crying. He could barely talk to the press, saying only that he was delighted to meet his son. He claimed he was too busy to visit last month and was sorry to have disappointed Keigo and broken the promise he made when he got in touch with his son through the Japanese embassy on May 22. His aunt said Keigo was so excited after being told on Thursday that his father would be arriving the next day. He barely slept on Thursday night and woke up very early for the trip from Phichit to Suvarnabhumi airport. Mrs Pattama said the boy will return to Phichit tomorrow evening because he has an exam on Monday. Keigo came under the media spotlight after a story was published about the boy who kept showing a photograph of the father he had never met to tourists visiting Wat Tha Luang in Phichit's Muang district and asked if they knew the man. The temple was where his parents had met and fallen in love. The boy started searching for his father after his Thai mother, Thipmontha, died in April. Before she died, she told her son to wait for his father at the temple. "Wait for your father at Wat Tha Luang's ordination hall and then you'll see him." The boy now lives with his aunt and a paralysed grandfather.
