Actually, if you work in proper postition in the company you can still be able to set the company direction.

One good point of working for the company is you can 'shut down' your working brain once office hours finished ( and still get paid)

I used to think about set up a company years ago when my ego was boosted up by being a young succesful working woman, thanks to family that foresee my over-confidence then gave no support.

Now one thing I realized, the less you make for yourself the more freedom you gain.

I work for the Government.

The pay and benefits are far better than the private or charity sectors for my work, job security is a lot better, and promotions are more often advertised internally first.

I can choose whether to progress to management within 6 years with one employer, or to take some time out, apply for funding, and spend a couple of years doing research, a choice which in turn opens other options.

Another choice is to gain a particular postgrad and go into private practice, dealing with more affluent clients and bringing in around 150 GBP for one hour sessions.

Alternatively, I may buy a boat and lie on the deck sipping beer!!

:)

SELL OUT!!! Working for DA MAN!

Also please change your pic it creeps me the %^&* out. :)

unfortunately 'da man' offers the best opportunities and wages in my job sector at the moment; parity only comes about at management level.

Not only that but 'da man' also offers the best services for our clients and since my job involves helping people to improve their lives and find new directions, I want to be where there is the best chance of doing that.

What has been strange about this thread is that people have mainly concentrated on financial rewards and time spent on the job, but there has not been a great deal of discussion on job satisfaction.

Are you doing something that makes you happy (and not in a financial way)? And does your job benefit others?

(what's wrong Vlad? You not like Papa Lazarou??)

In many ways, I am doing in my long career, the same as I loved to do as a little boy - invent, make things and figure out how to make things.

I can remember, when I was about 7, my Uncle taking me to Sherwood forest - the place of the famous Robin Hood legends.

Anyway, he told me that Robin made his bows from the Yew tree. From that day, I started making bows and arrows and kept going until I perfected it (as much as a kid could anyway lol). So all the other kids would come to me to get their bows and arrows too.

These days, it can be just as much fun playing and inventing ideas and making things, I just get to charge a lot of money for it

I sort of guessed that your work would give you a lot of happiness; creative jobs usually do return a high % of job satisfaction.

But...you could argue that the second point is the opposite of what you actually do. Does your job benefit others? Or persuade them to spend cash they cannot afford on things they do not really need?

Remember what the great philospher William Hicks said about your profession?

By the way if anyone here is in advertising or marketing... kill yourself.

No, no, no it's just a little thought. I'm just trying to plant seeds. Maybe one day, they'll take root - I don't know. You try, you do what you can. Kill yourself.

Seriously though, if you are, do.

Aaah, no really, there's no rationalisation for what you do and you are Satan's little helpers. Okay - kill yourself - seriously. You are the ruiner of all things good, seriously. No this is not a joke, you're going, "there's going to be a joke coming," there's no f*cking joke coming. You are Satan's spawn filling the world with bile and garbage. You are f*cked and you are f*cking us. Kill yourself. It's the only way to save your f*cking soul, kill yourself.

Planting seeds. I know all the marketing people are going, "he's doing a joke..." there's no joke here whatsoever. Suck a tail-pipe, f*cking hang yourself, borrow a gun from a Yank friend - I don't care how you do it. Rid the world of your evil f*cking makinations. Machi... Whatever, you know what I mean.

I know what all the marketing people are thinking right now too, "Oh, you know what Bill's doing, he's going for that anti-marketing dollar. That's a good market, he's very smart."

Oh man, I am not doing that. You f*cking evil scumbags!

"Ooh, you know what Bill's doing now, he's going for the righteous indignation dollar. That's a big dollar. A lot of people are feeling that indignation. We've done research - huge market. He's doing a good thing."

Godammit, I'm not doing that, you scum-bags! Quit putting a godamm dollar sign on every f*cking thing on this planet!

"Ooh, the anger dollar. Huge. Huge in times of recession. Giant market, Bill's very bright to do that."

God, I'm just caught in a f*cking web.

"Ooh the trapped dollar, big dollar, huge dollar. Good market - look at our research. We see that many people feel trapped. If we play to that and then separate them into the trapped dollar..."

How do you live like that? And I bet you sleep like f*cking babies at night, don't you?

"What didya do today honey?"

"Oh, we made ah, we made ah arsenic in childhood food now, goodnight." [snores] "Yeah we just said you know is your baby really too loud? You know?" [snores] "Yeah, you know the mums will love it." [snores]

Sleep like f*cking children, don't ya, this is your world isn't it?

meds just kicked in huh  feel better?

To answer your point, yes, I do help people a lot actually. Its not always about selling things or making stupid ads to get people to dream about buying something they cant afford or don't need.

Actually, these days, most of the time I'm finding ways to help clients improve their business by giving them ideas, innovation, new ways to look at things, focusing them, repositioning them etc etc.

We also do design in many different areas and I am now putting together a creative workshop to be held once a month for people who want to learn more about how ideas work, how to solve problems, how to create new thinking etc.

  • 2 weeks later...

ohh it should has another option...

Me and Company.

Cuz I work for both.

Plus my family has a small business, "Laundry, delievery at home". It's quite going well but still hope we can get more customers.

I like to work for the big company, feel safe to work with them. I get incomes every months and some benefits such as get free health care plus they pay special money after I got master degree monthly, plus for my English ability... It's not bad though.

Work for myself... I used to work as a graphic designer and photographer... but I don't wanna do that kinda job anymore. Mostly, I do it for my friends for free... they just take me for lunch and gift... if they wanna pay. lol

For now i just work for teachers or students who are doing research and want to use tools for their research...

That's why i have no time lately... no time to have lunch no time for sleeping much... no time for chatting, no time for playing games. My BF always complain that I work too much.
