Happiness may be the result of one's time and effort. (Not all the time though.)

Hmm...happiness is the reward...time and effort is the work...but it's not always necessary to put in the time and effort, but without it...the happiness may not last....

I think happiness comes from inside you. Invest the time and effort in your personal happiness. And hopefully you will attract others who are happy as well.

But you can not provide happiness for another person, if they do not already have it inside. All your investment will be wasted.

If you intend to make someone happy and wish for something in return, then it's an investment.

But I have found that my happiness comes from just watching the stars or hear the waves.

for once I disagree with Ghee. Personally i refuse the concept that you must be suffering in order to be happy. It is one of the many reasons why, despite the context I grew up in, christian preachings never convinced me.

Investing in ones happiness, can make one happy!

Sharing happiness, happens naturally, there is no investment considered.

You manage your investment portfolio (by diversifying into diffirent investment vehicles, industry sectors, etc.) in order to maximize returns. Happiness is similar to investment in the sense that you have to manage your priority in life (health, money, life style, relationship, etc) in order to maximize your, well, happiness.
